[Day 359] Poker Mingle/Closed
[Poker night at Kitty's place in sector 4! She has them set up at the kitchen table with cards and poker chips. There's a variety of snacks set up along the counters—pretzels, chips, dips, pizza rolls, meatballs with toothpicks, etc. There's also some pie because Chuck is here! Ice cream in the freezer since Kitty lives here. You'll also find water, sodas, wine, and beer. Stay hydrated!

There's also a living room with comfortable seating for taking breaks or relaxing after the game. If you're going to snoop you might find a Nathan hiding out in his room or peek through a partially opened door to see Kitty's room. It's very utilitarian—no decorations, generally clean though there are stacks of books, tech, and clothes here and there. For anyone who visited other apartments she's had they were a little warmer and included more personal touches. Nothing too exciting to find in the bathroom, you perv!]

(OOC: Invitees tag in mingle style.)

Thank you. I really appreciate it. [ Though he doubts Chekov packs as much of a punch as Leia. ]

Of course. [Chekov would hurt his fist just has much as Reid's face.] If you ever know the end to one of my stories, you can tell me. Sometimes I want to know.

Okay... I will. So far there seems to be a difference in your experiences and what I know of, uh... the other you.

I would have guessed so. Every other Starfleet officer I have met outside of my own universe knows of the other timeline, not mine. Why, I haven't determined.

Do you know about Captain Janeway and Commander Chakotay?

[ That's... intriguing. Why this Chekov's timeline doesn't belong to a collective reference he doesn't know, but it means something. Maybe. ]

I do - Picard as well. [ An important thing to point out, he feels. ]

[If Reid comes up with any theories, Chekov would love to hear them. He hasn't met anyone who knows about rebooted franchises.]

I haven't met Captain Picard. Counselor Troi and Lieutenant Commander Data both spoke very highly of him, so I would like to, someday. [He smiles.] And maybe I will. No one has told me that I died horribly at a young age in other timelines, so I may live to meet him.

Or he could come back here. [ Something he's almost hoping for. It was nice having a pseudo-father figure around. ]

A lot of things could happen, especially if we take the many worlds theory into account - which I think we have to, being here.

A possibility.

No one rational would discount the many worlds theory here. Have you ever thought about what you might do if you meet another version of yourself?

That... kind of already happened? Kitty said she met another version of me while I was still in the dome, but I never saw him. That was awhile ago now.

Did she realize that it wasn't you, or was he dramatically different? [Asking for science.]

He was a lot younger - 24. It sounded more like a younger version of who I am today... who I was at that age.

It's a shame that you had no opportunity to meet yourself. Maybe it would have been enlightening, being reminded of who you used to be.

I don't know about that... I didn't really like who I was at that age. [ Or this age, but that's neither here nor there. ]

Yes, I'm sure you were extremely young and foolish at twenty-four. [Nope.] How old are you now, Doctor?

[ Young and foolish and inexperienced and terrified. ] Thirty-one.

Of course. Don't you feel like you're maturing the older you get? [ How old are you anyway, 12? ]

Maturing, yes, but I think that I'm as foolish now as I was seven years ago. Some things cannot be outgrown.

Nineteen, physically. Twenty, technically. Time travel was involved.

So your frontal cortex hasn't even fully developed yet. [ Baby Chekov. ] Maybe that's why. You're still really young.

I'm not so young. [He bristles as much as Chekov ever bristles, which isn't very much.] I have been training for seven years and serving on the Enterprise for three.

[ He makes an amused noise. ] Chekov, I've been there. I was six years younger than my classmates when I graduated high school. I got my first PhD at 17. I was 22 when I joined the Bureau - most people are closer to 40.

I'm not saying you're too young, just that... you have a lot ahead of you.

[It's kind of nice to have company in the child prodigy corner. There are certain experiences that you have when you're younger than your peers that not everyone can relate to.]

I would say the same to you... thirty-one is far from old. You were with Kitty, I know, and she's no older than I am.

[ He makes a bit of a face at the mention of Kitty, not so much because of her but rather the age difference. Most of the time that wasn't a problem. Sometimes it was. ]

I don't know... we had a pretty significant age difference. Her being young doesn't make me younger.
