[Day 359] Poker Mingle/Closed
[Poker night at Kitty's place in sector 4! She has them set up at the kitchen table with cards and poker chips. There's a variety of snacks set up along the counters—pretzels, chips, dips, pizza rolls, meatballs with toothpicks, etc. There's also some pie because Chuck is here! Ice cream in the freezer since Kitty lives here. You'll also find water, sodas, wine, and beer. Stay hydrated!

There's also a living room with comfortable seating for taking breaks or relaxing after the game. If you're going to snoop you might find a Nathan hiding out in his room or peek through a partially opened door to see Kitty's room. It's very utilitarian—no decorations, generally clean though there are stacks of books, tech, and clothes here and there. For anyone who visited other apartments she's had they were a little warmer and included more personal touches. Nothing too exciting to find in the bathroom, you perv!]

(OOC: Invitees tag in mingle style.)

[Chekov knows Rebecca Crane, kind of. They work together on the investigative team, they have some friends in common, and it's a small prison where you have to put effort into avoiding people entirely. They don't really talk, though, and this seems like a fine opportunity to change that.

Also, Rebecca has food.

Because he really has no social skills, Chekov comes right on up and points to a quiche.]
What is this?

[Don't worry about social skills, she's a champ at going with the flow. Rebecca looks up at Chekov's approach and raises her brows while flashing a winning smile.] Quiche.

It's mostly made of egg. Want to try some?

[Food and a smile—he likes her.]

Yes, please, if I may. Did you make it?

If you mean did I heat it up, then sure, totally made it. [She snorts.]

But don't tell anybody. I've been toting it as a family recipe all night.

This is closer to making food than I come, usually.

I will tell no one.

Cool, cool. [She grins though, just takes a sip of beer.]

Having fun so far tonight?

[She's so good at this conversing thing. An inspiration.]

Yes. I have lost enough fake money to feel that I've accomplished something. And you?

Haha, yeah. I lost enough games to know I'm not cut out for the table.

I'm more of a Crazy Eights or Go Fish kind of girl. Add some beer and it's even better.

Beer? [He makes a face.] For cards, you need vodka.

...Those are card games? Crazy Eights and Go Fish?

Well, yeah. They're the better games too, trust me.

[...] But you might be on the right track with the vodka.

[He looks around and, with a conspiratorial smile, pulls a flask out of his pocket and offers it to Rebecca.] I will trade you this for you teaching me a new card game.

[Her brows shoot up but she matches his grin with her own mischievous one.] Hell yeah.

Come, sit. [Let's take over this living space while the others play their boring games.] I'll show you how to play Crazy Eights like a champ.

[Sit he does. Losing at poker was getting depressing, anyway.] Is this a bluffing game? I'm not good at bluffing games.

No, I mean - here I'll show you. [She goes about cracking open a new set of cards, dealing them each eight and then flipping one up. And then loosely describing rules I'm reading from wikipedia but really am too zoned out to understand. Crazy eights, so crazy. So many eights.]

So you wanna match the card, or else you draw. Let's play a few rounds and I'll talk you through it.

[Some handwaving can go here because I don't get this game either. They do, presumably, and that's what matters.]

We could make this a drinking game.

Oh, now - now you are talking. I'm game.

[Insert arbitrary rule potentially pertaining to drinking here, then-] Do you smuggle in alcohol to all the parties or were you just predicting this?

[He musters a look of mock-offense.] Please, I'm Russian. Of course I always bring vodka to parties.

[This is not actually true. She doesn't need to know that.]

I need to make friends with more Russians.

You know, I know someone who makes a great mixed drink with this stuff. Sometime I'll try and mimic the recipe. It's basically booze plus booze with a cherry but it's a pretty looking drink.

[info]candothat

For that, you will need to find a more exciting prison.

You mix vodka with other things? [He only manages to look affronted for a fraction of a second.] As long as booze and booze are the primary ingredients, I would try this.

[She snorts] I learned vaguely from the best, alright?

But yeah, I'll hook you up sometime. Got any hidden talents from home yourself?

I should have made friends with you sooner, Rebecca.

Hidden talents? [He stops to think.] Nothing so exciting as yours. I sing if I drink enough. This may not be a talent; I think that I sing well, but sober people may disagree.

Good thing I'm not going to be sober by any means - so sing on, my friend. I'll join ya.

[And trust her, she will. God bless the rest of this apartment though.]

You are at a different party than the rest of us.

[A more exciting one, apparently. He actually didn't come here with the intention of getting plastered, but if Rebecca gets drunk enough, he's not above playing along and singing anyway.]

That's not the first time I've heard that one. [In many different contexts - Rebecca thrives to be different.]

Plus if I'm going to do poorly at cards the least I can do is blame being drunk.

[More power to her! Chekov aspires to be confident enough to be different.]

A good point. [Nix that not-drinking-much idea. This sounds like an excellent way to save face.] Alternatively, drinking may make you better. You would be convinced, at least, that you play better.
