[Day 332][Video|Action|Open]
[Seyn is staring down the video screen, not that unfamiliar with the technology, even if this form of it is different from what she’s used to. There’s an awkward, tense smile on her face, as if she’s trying to think of the most polite way to say what’s on her mind. Bright orange really clashes with her hair and eyes in a way that she immediately thinks would make her a rather gaudy Knight, but that's not important, is it? Not when she's just been sent to a virtual prison.]

All right now. I can believe that I’m in prison, considering what I’ve been up to the last few months. But some of these crimes are really just too much. How can they blame you for crimes that weren’t crimes when you were doing 'em? [Or at least not viewed as crimes towards the people she was fighting when it happened. She doesn't sound as angry as she really is, managing to keep most of her tone this side of frustration, the smile more obviously sarcastic by the end than genuine.]

I guess I should be thankful I wasn't sent straight to solitary, but it's hard to feel grateful right this nano.

[Action]
[There's only so much that being on video can tell her, so Seyn starts wandering, using the map to familiarize herself with the locations, especially where the food stores are and the lodgings. She feels like she sticks out like an accident cone in these clothes. It makes her feel too visible, and she's used to wearing white.

So the first place she heads towards is Bull's Eye. She can't get that ankle monitor off, but she's not staying in this jumpsuit. She'll be digging through the clothes and when she finds something she likes well enough--black jogging pants and a dark red shirt--she'll be stripping down to her underwear right there and putting it on. Speed is more important to her than privacy--not that she's really used to privacy in the first place--so sorry to anyone who happens to walk by the women's athletic section right then. She's a bit too tall for the racks themselves to cover her up. After the change, she'll be wandering from sector to sector, trying to memorize everything that she can. Knowing the playing field is always rule number one.]

It's never that easy, but I can't know if I don't make the effort. We have a legal right to an appeal, even if they try to deny it.

[Which she's not surprised that they would do. They probably want to sweep everything under the rug. Don't want Knights rebelling to be news.]

I don't know 'bout you, but I sure didn't get a trial comin' in. Whatever legal system you're used to back home it don't apply here.

[That smile she has is completely gone now, her eyes a bit more serious. That's the last thing she wanted to hear, but she doesn't think he could be lying. There's no reason to lie.]

Then what do we do? Just walk around here killing time?

Somethin' like that. We live best we can, look after each other until we find a way back home. 's not so bad.

It really is a pretty picture for a cage, I'll give 'em that. A lot nicer than convicts get back home.

[As far as she knows.] All right, then. What do you do for fun? Can't sit around all day vid-chatting.

Depends on what you like to do, I guess. They've given us enough stuff to keep busy. There's th' arcade, a few places to eat, movie theater... we got some gardens too, if you like gardenin'.

Someone mentioned the arcade and I plan to check it out. I haven't played a video game in years.

[It's been such a long time for her since she had normal leisure time. She isn't quite sure what she's expected to do with it while in a prison of all places.]

I'm sure I'll figure it all out. Thanks for the help.

You'll have plenty of time for it here. [ That's how he spends most of his days, when he's not planting things. ]

And no problem. We've all been there.

Well, having too little time I think isn't gonna being one of my problems here. [She says it with a smile that is a bit more sardonic.]

I hope that movie theater has plenty of new content.

I've been here six months by now and I ain't run out of stuff to watch, so I think you'll be okay. Unless you really like watchin' movies, I guess.

If they don't have plans to let me out anytime soon, I guess we'll see just how fast I can run through everything in the catalog. I hope they have enough explosions.

[She says it with a bit of a smile. She isn't all that happy to be here, especially when everyone is telling her "welcome to prison, enjoy the rest of your watching movies," but it's better than being dead. It gives her time to plan.] Is watching movies what you do to pass the time?

[ Hey, you stay here long enough and you realize that being welcoming is better than listen to yet another hopelessly optimistic, terribly doomed fire speech about getting out of here in a jiffy. ]

Sometimes. Most of th' time I play video games or do some gardenin'.

[Kill the hope fast and clean, she can respect that.]

So video games, movies and playing in the dirt is what we're supposed to do. Not much of a rehabilitation program they've got here.

So you don't like the dirt? [He seems angry but she can't quite get why.] Do you use the soil-free type planters? I wouldn't call it gardening if you're not getting your hands dirty, no matter what most city-peep try to tell ya.

[What is his problem?] I'm gettin' the feeling we're having two different conversations right now as it is. Unless you're gonna start explaining what you're problem is, this ain't all that productive.

Have you been listenin' to what you've been sayin' at all? Callin' gardenin' playin' in th' dirt and then explainin' to me what it is when you don't even know me?

I could farm circles around you, lady.

[She's going back over her words and trying to figure out where this all went wrong.] I'm not sure if you are taking gardening too seriously or if you have a really different idea of what play means.

I like gardening. It's fun and you get your hands dirty digging into the soil. Things that are fun are playin'. I don't consider it much of a rehabilitation since last I knew, criminals ain't supposed to be having fun doing it.

Callin' it playin' is like sayin' it don't matter. Videogames are playin', I could take it or leave it.

[ Plenty of hurt feelings here. ]

Callin' it playin' means it's fun. You know like playin' an instrument, playin' songs on your earbuds, playin' sims. It's all about what's fun. Most people wouldn't even call gardening fun, because they leave it to service bots.

Survival? Flowers aren't--[She cuts herself off this time because she's sure they are misunderstanding each other here.] Are you talking about farming? Because I'm talking about growing flowers and shrubs and upkeepin' 'em so they look nice and fill out your lawn. That's not something you need to live. That's gardening. Farming is a much more complicated process they do on special agriculture compounds. That's where we get our food.

....are you shittin' me? You're tellin' me how to grow shit and you're gettin' it wrong? It's not about what's in it, it's a matter of scale.

Herb garden. Vegetable garden.

[Food doesn't go in a garden. People don't just grow food behind their houses. That's not how things work. But saying it's wrong is silly if in his world it is, isn't it? They're just going to keep arguing alternate semantics forever. What is the point of this?]

All right. In your world they're called gardens. They're not in my world. There's no "scale." Gardens are for decoration and agriculture facilities grow our food. You'd need special equipment and processing. A little facility of your own, to grow the food without it being contaminated. I don't know anyone who has that stuff just sitting around. I've found more berries and fruits growing naturally on the Preserve than I ever seen in someone's yard.
