Day 296 — Real MarinaNova — Busted
[ Did you really think you'd be allowed to explore freely to your hearts content? This was never meant to happen and it certainly wasn't meant to last — before long the security system kicks into gear, unleashing a veritable swarm of spider robots designed to encourage and hoard reluctant prisoners. You're welcome to try and escape or even destroy a few, but they'll keep coming in overwhelming numbers, armed with tiny tasers that zap and prod until every single one of you has been sniffed out and brought to the exercise yard.

The Engineers are waiting for you there. You were brave enough to exploit a security breach. Perhaps your rewards will be a one-on-one with the very people responsible for keeping you here? Or perhaps this is just a way to buy time. Either way, you'll be stuck out here until they decide to end it. ]

(OOC: This mingle is for those who went through the doors only. Feel free to mingle amongst yourself or approach the Engineers if you're brave enough! They will have threads for this purpose here: SMITH and MARY

EVENT INFORMATION | REAL MARINANOVA INFORMATION.)

[ Raito did not even try to resist the spider robots. Smarmy as he might be when he doesn't like something, actually resisting authority just isn't in his nature.

He looks up at Mary blankly at first, and then curiously. ]

Are you some manner of authority figure?

Some manner, yes. [ The tone of her voice is amused and arguably feminine. Some might even call it motherly. ]

Then what is all of this? Why the deception?

What makes you think it's a deception?

It's obvious if one simply examines the facts.

And what facts are those? Show your work, sweetheart.

After stepping through a glowing doorway this morning, I awoke in a room full of people sleeping in the same strange devices I had awoken in. Some of them I recognized as inmates from MarinaNova Asylum; others were recognized as inmates or former inmates by people who had awoken alongside me. The most obvious deduction is that MarinaNova is a hallucination shared by those asleep in that room.

Aren't you a clever boy! You must've been at the top of you class! [ She chirps. Literally. ]

Yes, I am very clever. Now tell me why we've been deceived.

You're not in a position to make demands, darling. Maybe if you're nice and eat your spinach...

Don't you know good behavior is rewarded? You do what we want you to... perhaps we'll give you all the tasty little details that you could possibly want.

Give up on returning to my work, then?

Give up is such a nasty word. We don't want you to give up! We want you to flourish... improve! Become the best you you can possibly be!

If that's so, then you'll provide me with access to the things I need to continue my research.

Veridical "informed" me that my research "does not require completion" and refused to restore access to the most vital tool I would need.
