Day 296 — Real MarinaNova — Exploring
[You have an adventurer's spirit, or maybe you're just following the crowd, whatever the case, you've left the central core behind.

What else is there to see and do and find? Hungry? Maybe you can find yourself a delicious pill to eat in the cafeteria. Or maybe you want to spend your time and energy breaking into a closet in the dormitory. Explore. Make some memories. You may even end up keeping them.

But how much longer do you think it will be before someone puts you back in those pods you so recklessly abandoned?]

(OOC: This mingle is for those who went through the doors only. The locale section will detail the areas you can explore. Please note that some areas specify barriers that would prevent exploration! The next one will be for encountering the engineers in their natural habitat. EVENT INFORMATION | REAL MARINANOVA INFORMATION.)

It's reasonable. Hope alone is not that reasonable, usually. [But he's starting to think that trying to break into every compartment is less than reasonable. Maybe whoever's in charge wants to keep them distracted.]

Kitty. Does anyone believe that we are really kept here for rehabilitation?

The wardens seem to, but given that they are programmed to believe it, I don't know that I'd trust them. [She sweeps her eyes over the unit again. She nothing worth breaking a door down for.]

So you think that the wardens are a part of whatever deception we are experiencing, not the powers behind it.

I think that we won't find anything here. [Unless they really want to rock some flip flops along with their scuba suits.] In the room with the containment cells we were being kept in... did you see anything unusual?

At the old prison one of the wardens actually arrested the engineers who created it. I figure they are at least higher on the food chain if they aren't the top of it.

[She stops her search and actually looks at him for part of their discussion. It's a novel way to change things up.]

Everything was unusual. I didn't get very far examining the technology without any tools or really much in the way of anything I could repurpose as one. You?

Really? Then not only are the engineers and the wardens not the same people, but the wardens must exist outside of the dome, as well. [Every time Chekov thinks that he has a guess about the way all of this works, something forces him to rethink it. How bothersome.]

Exceptionally unusual, then. I didn't find anything useful, either, but maybe something was overlooked? Maybe there was a button that went unpushed?

Why do the wardens have to exist outside of the dome for that?

[But she nods to his last question.] It's a big room. A team of us could spend a week in there and not have it all figured out. We have no idea how much time we have. [Maybe this is it for them now? They're up and they stay up so they don't contaminate the others?]

If the engineers are the ones who create these prisons, then it would make little sense for beings who exists only inside of that prison--the wardens--to have power over them. No sensible being would make another knowing that they will need to answer to it.

We can do our best with as many people and as much time as we have. Would you like to go back there with me? Two sets of eyes are better than one.

As it turned out they were able to pull strings even after their incarceration. They introduced different things to mess with us and replaced the warden who captured them with a different one.

[She looks thoughtful.] This place looks like a dead end and I already tried to breach some of the other areas and I wasn't getting anywhere. Does seem like there are probably more answers back there.

The engineers are incarcerated, also? [That throws a wrench into his theories. He doesn't like wrenches in his theories.]

What did you make of the containment pods? Does your universe have any similar technology?

Not anymore. At least I haven't seen or heard anything about them since we showed up in this prison.

[She looks over at him.] Did anyone tell you there was another prison before this?

And yeah, the pods are more or less like things I've seen before. We have a lot of alien and super genius tech running around. [But that didn't make this totally alien in a new and different way.]

No, this information is new to me. [He puts off reading everything Data can provide for a couple of days in order to explore and look what happens!] If we return, I will be sure to familiarize myself with all available history.

[He would ask for a summary, but the words super genius tech distracted him.] Running around your world, or here? And how well-versed in this technology are you? We have no time now, of course, but I would be interested in hearing about the technology that you are familiar with.

[She's just going to side step the "if" that is totally justified but a little hard on the heart.]

At home. The tech here is alien even for me, but I've gotten the hang of it. At least the stuff we've been seeing up until now.

I have a knack for it. I don't exactly have any training except experience.

[Oops. Sorry about that.]

Experience and a knack are enough. You have undoubtedly learned a number of things that I have not through experience alone. [He sighs.] And nothing that I have been taught has been helpful here.

It's probably by design. They can choose who to bring here so why not bring people who aren't familiar with their brand of tech, right? Doesn't mean we can't learn it, but it gives them time.

That is both clever and very rude.

Has anyone attempted to interfere with the dome from within it? From the wardens' station, perhaps, or from a remote device?

There have been hacking attempts. Usually ends up in glitches in the system. The force hasn't made any direct attempt against it. [And sometimes she wonders if that's smart or really stupid.]

Harmful glitches? It would be understandable for the force to be cautious if attempts at disrupting the dome's processes had severely negative consequences. [If not, then the force is seriously slacking.]

I don't suppose that the prison that existed prior to this one was abandoned because all of its secrets were revealed to its prisoners...?

Yeah, it can lead to systems we need going out—food, heat, oxygen.

[She shakes her head.] Some of us were the prisoners and we didn't get a lot of secrets answered.

Ah. Those are not good systems to put at risk.

Were you one of the prisoners?

I was. A lot of my time was in the old prison. I was even there for both wardens we had there. They didn't work together like the two we have here.

Then you are an expert on the topic of Marina. If there had been a successful escape attempt, you would likely know of it, correct?

[A nod.] Can't really picture that happening without it being news. Unless the wardens made sure of it.

It would be to the wardens' benefit to have us think that escape is impossible.

But I would also think that having us here is a danger to them. If there's a way out, we are more likely to find it here, I think, than in the dome.

Probably. We're a less vulnerable. Then again, they've taken some precautions. Have you tried taking your new fashion accessory off?

Eh? The collar? [His hands go to said collar, but he thinks better of tinkering with it.] No, and I would assume that something unpleasant would happen to me if I did.
