[VIDEO]/[ACTION]
[There's something...different about Zatanna when she appears on screen. She'd always had an air of confidence about her, but right then, that mischeivous twinkle in her eye looked...prideful. Sinfully prideful.]

[The glimmering purple pearl currently hanging from her wrist may or may not have something to do with that.]

Hey, Jack, remember when you mentioned you wanted to see a few of my tricks? I'm down at the rec center, if you still think you're up for it.

...offer's open for anybody looking for a challenge, by the way. I'm feeling playful today.

[[ACTION]]

[Anybody who stopped by would find the fourteen-year-old magician messing with a few atmospheric spells in the multi-purpose room. While casually sitting atop a pommel horse. Relaxing, one leg crossed over the other. Drinking Starbucks a latte.]

[Carol heard the open invite and decided, hey, why not? She was still in exploration mode, and she was especially curious about the people here, particularly those who had special abilities. Taking a small detour to the rec center wouldn't hurt, especially when she had no real obligations.

She's enters the room, but hesitates on the threshold when she sees the girl and ... are these the "tricks" she mentioned? Real or...?]

How are you doing that?

[Open meant open, no matter who took up the invitation, and thus, she hardly batted an eyelash when a new face wandered into the chilled room, currently experiencing a small flurry of snow in one corner.]

Magic.

[Her actual answer.]

[Of course, if Carol inquired further for details, she would be willing to elaborate. Sum. But in general, that was the easiest explanation to offer.]

[She moved further into the room, eyes moving between the snow and the girl, and then searching around, searching for sign of a machine or hidden gimmick.]

Real magic, or Las Vegas stage show magic?

The real kind.

I can channel a little Vegas if you like, but this seems flashier to me.

[She snapped her fingers and muttered something unintelligible. The actual lights in the room dimmed just enough for beautiful balls of colored lights to appear on the ceiling. Like rainbow stars.]

I'm impressed. How long have you known how to do this? [She's already made the acquaintance of a witch, and a gentleman who claims faeries and werewolves are real. But she's still mystified.]

According to my dad? Pretty much ever since I was old enough to talk.

[She actually wasn't joking; her spells were language-based, so it made sense that some of her first words would have been spells she'd learned from her father.]

Really? I wonder what the terrible twos were like. Your father must have had a handful. Is he also a, uh ... What, um ... What would you call yourself?

[She shouldn't grin so proudly at that, but she couldn't help herself. If they were more familiar with one another, she might have been inclined to tell her the story of the Incredible Floating Baby.]

[Maybe some other time.]

Homo magi. Though magician or magic user works just as well. And yeah, both my parents were.

[Past tense?]

So it's inherited? Does it go back generations?

[Past tense. Something which normally would have brought a flash of sadness to her eyes.]

Several.

Not sure how far on mom's side, but I know dad once traced his lineage all the way back to Leonardo da Vinci himself.

da Vinci? He was ... Really? [How about that.]

So, what else can you do?

[It made sense, when you stopped to think about it. How else could he have done so many of the things he did?]

[...not to mention, although this wasn't quite so publicly known, it explained why her powers revolved around speaking backwards. Just as her ancestor's habit of writing his notes backwards to deter spies and eavesdroppers.]

Plenty of stuff.

I can fly, do simple transmutations, create illusions, manipulate objects, change my clothes at will....

[Carol laughs at the last one.]

You sound like a force to be reckoned with. What is it you did back home?

[Oh. That's right. Her world no longer had schools, but others surely must. She shakes her head.] Of course. How silly of me. Are you a good student?

That's...kind of a loaded question.

Did I go to class? Most of the time. Was I failing any of them? Nope. Was I acing any of them? Probably not, though I wouldn't have minded the surprise come mid-year report cards.

Not something you can fix with magic, huh.

Not when your dad is literally the greatest magic user is the world and would be able to spot a spell like that in a heartbeat.
