Well, you all got what you wanted. I suppose 'force' is a rather fitting word now that I think about it.

Is this how it's going to be? Step out of line and you get punished? I thought the wardens doling out punishments out was bad enough, but I guess not.

	How many people does a person have to kill and attack without provocation before they move from "step out of line" to something with a little stronger language? It's going to be over two deaths and four attacks. So seven? Eight? Twenty? Sixty-three and a third? Am I getting warm? It wasn't a punishment. It was a way of trying to keep people here safe. One of your own members attacked him. Waiting in the dark with a baseball bat; was Spike not supposed to react to that? Just lay down without defending himself?

I never wanted anyone to get hurt, but it's hard sometimes. Keeping yourself in control when your dark nature just wants to take over. I've slipped a few times back home. Forcing it onto him seems like a punishment. Do you have any idea what this is going to do to him? I chose to embrace my humanity and stay in control. You took that choice away from Spike.

	Wasn't counting that one in the tally, but it did happen after he already killed Jack and attacked his boyfriend since you're fresh out of context. Did anything about Spike make you think he was trying to keep himself in control of that dark nature? Because it sounded to me like he enjoyed letting it out to play. 	No one has seen the side of him that I have. It's different to what you have all seen and I thought that with encouragement, that side would come out more often and none of this would have ever happened. The slightest provocation from others didn't help in discouraging him from continuing. He lashed out because he felt threatened. (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[There's a pause.] It's because I saw something in him that I wanted to go this route. Give him the chance to be something more than a killer. [She and Jack arrived at the same conclusion after learning about the soul and coming at it from different angles. Kitty remembered a version of Spike who'd never attacked anyone as far as she'd ever heard. He'd even helped people. He wasn't exactly a force member, and she didn't know him well, but she respected people who did care about him like Buffy.]

And you couldn't really expect everyone else in the dome to walk around him on eggshells, donating their blood against their will whenever he wanted, hoping he'd learn to be warm and fluffy without the capacity to do it, could you?

He is more than a killer. [She retorts. They just never saw that part of him.] You may have just made things worse by doing this. It could backfire in a horrible way and you'd only have yourselves to blame.

[Maybe they had done all of their research but it's still unpredictable what might happen.]

With the right guidance he could have learned to control it; not something that would happen overnight but at least it wouldn't involve torturing him. [Rose is quiet for a moment.] He's capable of caring, so much more than the soulless monster you are painting him to be.

Could be. [She knows there's still a chance it's all going to blow up. Spike could be worse. The could have unleashed something with the magics. Hell, maybe that's why people were suddenly animals.]

And I never said he was all bad. [She kind of liked Spike to be perfectly honest. He'd talked to her when she was in a bad place once. Not exactly the most friendly, but he was real with her.]

Just couldn't have people attacked whenever he felt like it, and if you thought you could really guide him away from that it might have been worth mentioning beforehand. Not waiting until afterward when you don't have to take the responsibility for it if it didn't work out and you had blood on your hands.

Jack had asked me to try and convince Spike to not go down that route and I did talk to him. Told him that there was another way; maybe I didn't try hard enough but I couldn't supervise him twenty-four seven. Suffocate him.

[He might have pushed her away if she had and Rose didn't want to drive a wedge between them.]

Even if I had said something, I didn't believe that any of you would take my words into account. You would just go ahead and do the ritual anyway.
