260 — Olympics mingle
[ It is a gorgeous day down here at the bottom of the sea and what better day to have an Olympics! The obstacle course is set up, the towels are fluffed, the medals have been polished to a high sheen and every orange within sight has been sliced.

Okay. Maybe not every orange. A lot of them. Enough to fuel a whole prison full of athletes, so athlete away! We can't waste all these oranges! ]

[ This might actually end up a challenge. Haruka's enjoying herself.

She beats Trowa to one of the sector checkpoints but can tell she should probably pause for a breather - you've made her try, that's a compliment - so she'll be eating one of those oranges when he approaches. She tosses him one too, without even looking.

If this keeps up, she may have to admit she has a fruit-tossing problem. ]

[Trowa definitely was going to give her a run for her money. Even if he didn't win, it was a chance to get in a good run.

As he caught up with Haruka at the check point, he blinks in surprise and catches the orange]

[And he will take a short break too. He could possibly keep going, but that wouldn't be fair. He wanted a challenge. That wouldn't be it]

[ They seem to have outpaced at least everybody in this sector so far. Maybe there's other people making better time elsewhere, but for now, they can rest on their premature laurels.

Haruka is one of those insufferable people who can actually peel a whole orange in a single strip. She lets the peel drop to the floor, then pops a slice into her mouth. ] Three sectors to go.

	[ She thought he might. The first obstacle of the next part of the course is a jungle gym-like system of ropes: participants have to reach from rope to rope with their legs dangling in the air. Haruka jumps up and manages to grab on in the first try, grunting with the exertion. She's used to relying on her legs for power. This ought to be interesting. ] (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[It will be interesting. Especially since this one is practically child’s play for Trowa.

He jumps up, actually having to hold himself back because he has the ability to ~~leap tall buildings in a single bound~~ jump many times his own height. He also has upper body strength so what he lacks in speed, he can make up for in his strength. So if Haruka is struggling at all with it, he isn’t]

[ Oh, she's hardly struggling; she's yet to meet a sport that's a match for her. But Trowa's at an advantage here. Haruka's not used to seeing that in others.

It's kind of exciting.

Coming up behind and trying to draw even with you now, Trowa. She doesn't even seem to notice you're there - her eyes are focused straight ahead - but there's an excited tension in her body she usually saves for motor sports. A rival's not bad. ]

	[A challenge was always good in Trowa’s opinion. It pushed one to try even harder and to improve. There were few he couldn’t compete with back home. Heero was stronger and Wufei was faster. So having someone who was making him work for it was good. And he was more than willing to use his strength to try and give himself more of lead in the meantime] (Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[ It is so tempting to swing herself up onto the top of these ropes and run across them, but no. Accomplishing her goal however it takes is a soldier thing. Haruka the sportsman plays fair.

Trowa's pulling forward, so Haruka starts swinging her body from her hips to try and even the odds. This manages to extend her reach for the next handhold, which gives her the confidence to try quipping while she swings. ] So you're not just an equestrian.

[ This is the part where a normal human being would ask what he is, then, but he's racing Tenoh Haruka so that doesn't happen.

They're nearing the end of the course, and he's ahead. Haruka swings herself further, tempted to laugh. She's exerting herself for this! That's ridiculous - but she wants to see. If she gives this race her all, can she best him? ]

[ Haruka's gratified to see the next stretch of the course is a straightforward sprint. She swings back and forth twice at the end of the ropes, gaining momentum, then launches herself into the air, attempting to gain some ground from her descent. ~~Plus, it's more extravagant. The shoujo is strong with this one.~~

As soon as her feet hit pavement she's off and running. Nobody outruns the wind. ]

	[Trowa has a minor head start and he’s going all out to try and keep that lead. However, it is really hard for him to maintain that lead. She is fast, faster than he is. 	[ It takes longer than she's used to, but Haruka does outpace Trowa; the feeling's so gratifying that she actually puts on a burst of speed after the fact. Actual competition! [ Climbing. Not bad, but she has an idea about how to maintain her lead - it worked well in reverse when dismounting from the ropes, so why not here?

As she approaches the wall, Haruka leaps up in a ~~fantastic animé~~ jump, giving her a head-start on the climb as well. She can't jump quite as well like this as she could as Sailor Uranus, but she's still no slouch.

The need to search for handholds means she's not going to be able to keep an eye on Trowa, though - just sense him in relation to her. She's hoping he'll stay behind, but who knows? It'd be a pain to exert all this effort only to end up bored. ]

[Since she’s not going to be able to keep an eye on him, she’s not going to see that he leaps up as well. That he was probably equal to her at even when wearing military weight uniforms so this was nothing. He quickly finds the handholds and rather quickly starts working his way up. He keeps his peripheral vision on her so he can keep track of his progress compared to her.

So far it seems that while he might not be faster than her, he can at least maintain his ground on the obstacles]

[ Haruka can feel him gaining on her, and she chuckles. Between this and what he's said about his life back home, she's guessing he'd be quite the opponent in martial arts, too. She almost wants to try that sometime. ~~She will also have to inform Michiru she spent all day ardently pursued by a man. No, on second thought, she's never telling that to Michiru.~~

Her hand reaches for the top of the wall. If he's reserving energy for the last spurt or anything, she guesses she's about to find out.]

[Martial arts? Aside from basic training from Wufei, he didn't know that much about it, but he was willing to give it a shot. He's fighting was more "street-smarts" ~~Yeah no don't tell her that. Michiru might be okay with it knowing what was actually happening, but it would fluster Trowa to no end if he found out~~.

He reaches the top of the wall and makes a jump for it to continue the last leg of the race. He had been holding back some energy so he's going to use it now]

Haruka's coordinated enough that pride doesn't end up literally going before a fall, but Trowa beats her to the top and jumps. Her surprise costs her a few seconds - dangerous, with the competition this stiff - but after that she's smiling and shaking her head, hoisting herself to the top. Down to the wire to the end, huh? Good grief.

She'll be doing her damndest to catch up with him now. ]
