260 — Olympics mingle
[ It is a gorgeous day down here at the bottom of the sea and what better day to have an Olympics! The obstacle course is set up, the towels are fluffed, the medals have been polished to a high sheen and every orange within sight has been sliced.

Okay. Maybe not every orange. A lot of them. Enough to fuel a whole prison full of athletes, so athlete away! We can't waste all these oranges! ]

[Kitty took a somewhat distracted walk through the obstacle course, barely paying attention to the myriad of things in her way. Sometimes it's good to be untouchable. She doesn't care much when the bots disqualify her for not interacting with the course.

What events she attends is more on the outskirts, much the way it was early on in her time in the dome. Wanting to be part of things but feeling very much the outsider. Then it was because being the outsider was all she knew how to be unless she was with her team. Now it's just like she has a Reid-shaped hole in her life and it feels obvious to her like people should be able to look and see the strange shadow.

But she doesn't blow it off completely because life moves on whether it sucks or not and eventually she'll look up one day and it will have stopped sucking.

Any day now...]

[ seven ran the obstacle course as well, but it wasn't that much of a challenge for her. being borg meant that she was faster, stronger, and far more quick and agile than any normal human being could ever hope to be. not even earth's infamous augments stood a chance of rivaling her physically or mentally. emotionally was another story, but the genetically altered were typically allowed to live and grow, whereas she "grew up" inside a borg maturation chamber and spent the better part of the existence as a mindless drone. but that was neither here nor there at the moment.

and at the moment, she would rather be anywhere but here. seven's making the attempt to participate, mingling because it is what's expected of her (albeit expectations of those who are not present), and not at all because she wants to. crowds make her uneasy, and she finds competition irrelevant in spite of the fact that ensign paris is often successful at luring her into participating in them. paris is not here, nor are any of her crew mates. just her, the android she's courting, and people from a ship whose name will forever stand out amongst the thousands of voices that make up the collective consciousness. ]

You did well. [ awkward compliment is awkward, but she's trying. forever trying. trying because they want her to try, trying because she doesn't know what to do other than try. ]

	Do I not seem like one who would participate in these events? [This is everything Nathan dislikes. Sunlight, exercise, people. The oranges aren't bad, but isn't there anything else to eat? And why do all of the girls who ice skate and do gymnastics have to wear skimpy clothes? It's like the wardens are trying to start a blood bath by annoying him as much as possible and then shoving girls without sufficient clothing at him.

At least it'll be partly Kitty's fault if he snaps. She's the one who decided that he should go outside and socialize and soak up the vitamin D or whatever.

Nathan is distracting himself by flailing all over the obstacle course. He's not good at it by any means, but at least everyone in the area is covered up. Plus, if he acts like he's concentrating on not tripping over tires, people are less likely to talk to him.

When he sees Kitty phasing through a wall that got the best of Nathan, his irritation encourages him to remind her about fair play. Yeah, he'd bypass the sweat and bruises and splinters and other minor evils of healthy exercise on an obstacle course if he could, too, but he can't. That's what he takes issue with.]

That's cheating.

	...Nothing new. Or do you have some kind of temporary amnesia? [As much as she wants to move on easily, that's just not going to happen. Lots of missing a certain genius.
