DAY 256 ✯ OPEN AUDIO.
Resistance is futile. Fu-tile. There is— There is something terribly presumptuous about the futility of resistance, when many species have proven themselves to be remarkably resilient. It's often that ability to resist that deems them worthy of interest, of assimilation; what makes them exceptional drones once they have been assimilated into the Collective. Thus, it is the very futility of resistance itself which makes the resistance futile.

Order brought to the chaos that rebelled against the order. That resisted it.

Resistance isn't futile at all. It's vital. Resistance— Resistance is vital.

[ someone made their way through the wine through the ages exhibit and sampled the available vintages. someone who literally has zero tolerance for synthehol alcohol. it didn't take much to push her to the point of intoxication and speeches misdirected at the network. ]

It is difficult to make a definitive categorical statement about what humans do or do not enjoy.

[There's maybe a slight, dry note of humor in that.]

I prefer to remain in control of my actions, and I am not fond of the physiological side effects.

Difficult, but not impossible.

[ humor for humor. seven's brand of humor tends to be hit or miss or come off as too horrifically borg to be viewed as anything close to hilarious. she tries. ]

Then why is it that some prefer to experience that loss of control? I fail to see the appeal. [ says she who is drunk. ]

I suspect their reasons are as varied as the reasons of those who choose not to drink to excess.

[Maybe keeping Seven talking will help her regain a bit of that control.]

Some find it relaxing.

There is nothing relaxed about not being in control of your motor functions.

I do not disagree. On the other hand, it does provide some distraction by limiting one's ability to hold and process complex ideas. Whether or not that manner of distraction is advisable.

It fails to silence my ability to hold and process the complex.

[ but most humans aren't ex-drones whose brains are more computer than grey matter. ]

I can only speak to the generally-accepted physiological effects on the average human. And, in all fairness, I am sure there are many individuals who maintain a higher degree of logical reason in spite of inebriation; it is merely one potential reason why someone would willingly become inebriated.

If I may ask, is your current state unintentional?

Did I deliberately intoxicate myself? [ a beat of silence. ] No, I did not. The end result was unintended. I was merely attempting to... participate in the sampling surrounding the displays.

I see.

[She considers this a moment.]

It can be difficult to gauge how much one can safely drink, lacking significant experience with alcohol. I believe in wine-tasting it's customary not to swallow.

[ ...customary not to swallow. well then. that made more sense than the scenario which led her to being in this current state of intoxication. perhaps she should have asked someone more familiar with terran customs to accompany her instead of taking matters into her own hands and looking into the cultural significances of wine throughout earth's history on her own. exploring her human roots has had some unforeseen consequences. ]

Next time, I will make sure not to swallow.

It is my opinion that no experience is wholly wasted if you learn from it.

[Possibly that is some attempt at consolation? Who knows, with her.]

That sounds like something my captain would say.

Do you tend to agree with your captain's judgment?

Not always. [ she likes morgan, so the lieutenant gets honesty. it is also not in seven's immediate nature to lie, though she is capable of falsifying her words when necessary. ] But I trust her judgement.

[ her judgement. seven's captain is a woman, and arguably one of the greatest captains in starfleet history. ]

[She's heard mention of that before, but it's inarguably gratifying to be reminded that Seven serves under a woman. Rationally Robbins knows that not all of Starfleet is as biased as her little corner of space, but it's frustrating. She respects her captain, and more often than not she trusts his judgment; in many ways, though, she doesn't like him.]

That is decidedly more important.

[She sounds satisfied.]

She has seen to the survival and integrity of her crew throughout hardships that other captains could not have endured. Captain Janeway perseveres, and not even the Collective has the power to stop her.

[Be more of a fangirl, Seven.

Not that Morgan blames you, with that laundry list.]

Then certainly you have every reason to trust her judgment.

Yes, I do.
