[The truth is Rudy really doesn't know the first thing about teaching, and he doesn't particularly care to figure it out; but this is a good excuse to set up a studio and get some brownie points with the powers that be. He's got to keep busy, after all.

He's in the studio early, setting up a few simple tableaux of items for his 'students' to draw or paint-- the ubiquitous bowl of fruit; a collection of random, mismatched glassware; a tumbled pile of loose fabric, draped over a wooden box; a bouquet of cut flowers laid on their sides.

As for himself, he's got a large pad of paper off to the side of the room, and by the time the class officially starts, he's already sketching vague charcoal lines.

Now it's a matter of seeing whether anyone shows up.]

|[ooc; backdated to early this dayweek~ this will be a bit more of a mingle, please feel free to bounce around in threads and do whatever! I will get around as much as I can and hopefully class on 258 will have a bit more substance.]|

Exactly. Because you know they're there.

I didn't even realize I did that. So I just need to be more careful about painting what I really see?

If you're trying to represent the still life, it's a good move.

Do you think I should start over?

Well, that's up to you. It's a nice picture-- you could finish it, if you like it, from your imagination.

[She nods.] Yes, maybe I'll do that and then next time I'll pay more attention. Thank you.

As long as you enjoy working on a piece, I think it's worth it. Besides, not everything can be put on display to capture; it's good to learn to work right from your imagination.

So, either way I would be doing it correctly?

There isn't really an incorrect, it's about choosing what you want to do and learning how to manage it.

What sorts of things do you paint?

People, mostly. I prefer drawings to painting. But it's good to shake things up, it helps develop your eye.

Oh, that must be why you asked for models. [She didn't respond, but she did hear him.] Did any respond?

None yet, but that's all right. I think it might be a little too intimidating for the first few classes, anyway.

What does it involve?

Some people just freak out a little the first time they're asked to draw a naked stranger.

Oh. [She sounds surprised, but not overly so.] I didn't realize they would be naked.

And so few of us are strangers here.

I guess they don't have to be, but that's the usual practice. You can't study the human form when you can't see it.

But you're right about that. That might make it weirder, I guess.

I didn't think about it like that. [And now she's less likely to volunteer. Being in very little around others doesn't bother her, but nothing at all?]

Though I suppose you wouldn't be strangers long if you spent so much time together being drawn or drawing.

It depends. The model has to stay very still, so you don't usually get to chat much.
