DAY 254 ✯ OPEN VIDEO.
[ you. what are you doing here? ]

Hiding, like you. [ except— wait. no. this isn't right. this was familiar, almost tangible as if it were a collection of memory engrams locked away behind a series of unbreakable, undetectable algorithms that had begun to break free of their restraints. she knew this place, but it wasn't right. this— was not right at all. she didn't belong here. it wasn't her fault. that which she stood accused of wasn't her fault. an individual should not have to answer for the collective's wrongdoings.

she went away, like some do — she understood that much. or maybe she was still on the equinox. perhaps she was hallucinating. firm, unwavering in her stance, she'd been willing to perish instead of becoming what ransom and his crew had become. she wanted no part in any of it. she resisted. but he was trying to force her hand, made the doctor—

standing up, only dimly aware of the headset, of the feed, seven draws her hand across her temple and the metallic, ocular implant that's a stark contrast against pale skin and loose, bright blonde hair. she's intact, and an awkward, uncharacteristic clearing of her throat tells her that her auditory processor is operating under normal parameters. her voice is her own, controlled by her own will and not that of a hologram devoid of ethical subroutines.

only then, when she's certain that speaking will produce words and not song, does she address the dome directly. ]

My designation is Seven of Nine, Tertiary Adjunct of Unimatrix 01. I will not comply.

Seven of Nine.

[She is, honestly, as surprised to see the woman return as she was to see her leave. It's heartening to know there is, apparently, a chance to return to reality-- but disappointing to note the possibility of ending up imprisoned again.]

Are you well?

[ she isn't sure whether this face is familiar because of history or something else. ensign paris was endlessly fascinated with early starfleet eras, was likely to have mentioned the name of the woman who served as first officer to the captain before kirk or talked her into making an appearance in a holodeck simulation involving some skirmish... ]

I am undamaged, Lieutenant.

[That is a satisfactory answer, and for the moment she won't press. Nor will she request a formal report; that, she thinks, is Picard's prerogative, and she wouldn't waste time with redundancy.]

By the local calendar today is day 254; you have been gone, I believe, since Day 242.

I have been absent for twelve days.

[ stated like a fact, even though she's still doubtful. it's entirely possible there's something wrong with her. the doctor did say that her higher brain functions would be damaged in the process of extracting her cortical array. perhaps this is the result, the madness of her own head she's now trapped within at the expense of ransom's ambitions. ]

If I may inquire, has time passed at a similar rate in your proper timeline?

No, it has not.

[ months have passed for her, not days. those days are presently overlapping the months, not lining up in a proper, linear way. ]

[An interesting tidbit, though not at all surprising.]

Have you been in contact with Captain Picard yet?

[ picard blurs with locutus in her mind, the latter a more familiar, easier to relate to image than the captain himself. that'll fix itself in a few days' time. ]

No, I have not. How many Starfleet Personnel remain within the facility?

Captain Picard, Lieutenant Commander Data, and myself, barring any new arrivals with today's influx of inmates.

[ data is still here, as is locu— picard. that's a comfort in a sea of unfamiliar faces and ones that are, but she isn't personally acquainted with. she does not blame the enterprise crew for being on edge around her, but in the same vein as the accusations against her: it's not her fault she was borg. her actions while she was with the collective were not her own. ]

And our current objective?

[If nothing else, Morgan fortunately lacks the context for that prejudice. A nonjudgmental face isn't inherently a friendly one, but as the lieutenant sees it, they're on the same side.]

Information gathering, primarily.

[And looking for a way out, but saying so where the Wardens can hear it seems unwise.]

[ points: you've earned them. seven responds better when treated like an equal versus an asset. "assistance" versus "cooperation," as ransom and his crew had phrased it. like she was a borg accompaniment to her ship's manifest. ]

I am happy to be of assistance, Lieutenant.

[Funny, how that works. Morgan has always demanded respect for her skills, but she actively likes those in command who are capable of seeing her as more than the sum of her abilities. Personhood is a powerful thing.]

Please let me know if I can aid you in re-acclimating to this facility.
