day 254 | action;
A long time had passed since Deanna had felt the distinct lack of her empathic powers. She had only felt this sort of emptiness once in her life before today and it was no better now than it had been then. Last time, she had thought she would forever be without them and felt as though she had lost a limb, but she was hopeful that this time she could figure out what had caused her to lose them in an effort to get them back. At least she had experience in dealing with this feeling. Not that this would help her much, but it was a start. It was better than nothing.

Unsure where she was or how she had gotten here, and feeling as lost and alone as she had ever felt in her life, Deanna wandered around the area. She passed what looked like a park of some sort, a library, and something that looked like a residential building. That seemed a little more permanent than she had been hoping for. She'd listened to the welcome message, but it definitely hadn't seemed like something the Federation would condone, which meant that she had been kidnapped somehow. That wasn't a good thing for many reasons and she didn't like to think of what Captain Picard might do when he found out, let alone Will Riker. It was inevitable that one of them would and she doubted either would take it well.

Still, being here was an opportunity to learn about a new location and Deanna intended to do as much information-gathering as she could despite the situation she had recently been exposed to and the one she was in now. What she really needed was a way to contact Starfleet, if not Captain Picard himself. She had found something that seemed like a communicator, but without having someone she trusted verify it, she was hesitant to use it. Whatever the case, she much preferred to make contact on her own terms and that included being in possession of her empathic abilities. So for now she kept searching the area. It wouldn't do her any good to stay in one place.

[ ooc: deanna can be found anywhere in the dome today, but she starts out in sector 2. ]

"Yes. Do not be alarmed. We are perfectly safe, just displaced. Commander Data is here as well, as is Robbins, First Officer who served under Captain Pike." Yes, he knows that that history lesson means that Robbins should be dead. But it should also give Deanna a hint as to the unrealness of this place.

"As far as we can tell this is a pocket dimension that serves as a prison." And get ready for it. "A prison which pulls persons in from every world, universe and timeline."

Deanna can't help feeling alarmed. After what she'd been through with Shinzon not long ago and losing Data and now finding herself here and without her empathic abilities, everything is falling around her like shattered glass. It's hard for her to sort through the importance of each piece, especially when they've all cut her open to bleed. So she focuses on the few her captain is mentioning as she tries to determine whether or not he's acting real himself.

"I met someone who mentioned Data being here, but I didn't believe her." And that should tell him where she's from. It's just so difficult to take in. Alternate realities aren't so much a foreign concept for them, but things like people coming back from the dead -- there was no possible way Data could have survived that explosion, none at all, and yet people were speaking of him as though he were here and alive -- are difficult to wrap one's mind around.

For a moment, she just nods. This is a more technical explanation of what Kitty told her and somehow hearing it from her captain makes it seem just a little more plausible. "I can't feel anyone here. I don't know how many people are in this prison with us, who they are or what they are. If this lasts a long time, I won't be of any use to you."

And maybe that's what worries her, too. Beyond having lost something that's such an integral part of her very being, she doesn't know what use she could be to her captain without it.

"Yes. Data." He nods, the both of them sharing a similar look. He notices his own feelings on the subject in her. "I am... he does not know." Despite his being loathe to tell Data of his sacrifice for personal reasons, there is also the prime directive and the space time alignment to consider. He just hadn't thought it wise to mention. And perhaps he was a bit selfish in his gratitude to have the android here and well.

"It is possible that the suppression in your abilities are temporary. We will know within a day or two." He hopes the temporary is a truth, because he remembers how useless Deanna had felt when her abilities had been taken from her a time or two. And he was loathe to see her go through anything like that again.

Deanna just nods, her thoughts reflected in his expression. "I don't think we should tell him. Do you know what he last remembers? How much does he know?" She understands the Prime Directive and agrees in upholding it, especially in a situation like this. There's no need to ever tell Data about that. It might color his views of the future and disrupt everything they knew to be true.

As for the comment on her abilities, she just nods. She feels very useless right now and after everything else, it's another notch on a long list of things she's had to deal with in the last few days. Right now what she needs is support. She needs her husband, but he isn't here yet. But for now, she's willing to wait to see whether or not she gets her empathy back. If she doesn't, she'll deal with that when it comes down to it.

"Yes, he is from shortly after the time that we prevented the Borg's attempt to alter the history of Cochran's first warp flight." Which is indeed some time before his own time, and what he suspects is Deanna's time as well. But he does feel that it is best she is informed and that they agree that it is best not to divulge Data's fate as they know it just yet. Or possibly ever.

He's glad that she understands that it might be temporary. And he sincerely hopes it is. "We've a set of rooms together. Geordi was here and only yesterday did we discover that he had been taken out of the prison."

Deanna inhales sharply at that revelation. She wants to appear strong in front of her captain, someone she respects very much, but with everything she's been dealing with and now this, she might have to fall back on some Betazoid techniques to help her stay calm.

"That was years ago. For me and, I suspect, you as well. I don't remember much beyond that. Will and I were supposed to go on our honeymoon and then accept his posting on the Titan. I believe our first mission should be soon after we return." Which was all part of the plan even before Shinzon turned up, so she isn't breaking any rules by telling him that much. They were also planning another wedding, a traditional one on Betazed so her mother could attend, which is also not a secret. She is, however, interested to see if Captain Picard will pick up on her cues, the little details she's leaving out of the end of her experiences, such as B-4 and the Romulan involvement.

He fully remembers Will's and Deanna's wedding. He was very much a part of it and proud to be so. No matter where all of them might end up, might move on to, they would always be dear friends, and family. This prison was a new venture altogether though. And he was more than prepared to take charge and offer whatever bit of normalcy he could in his place.

"Yes. I remember it well." He also remembers Shinzon, something so personal, something still so fresh upon his arrival here, that he never, ever speaks of it. "For the most part we are quite safe here. Although there have been days where something has... run amiss."

Deanna had yet to run into her husband, so until then she would lean on her captain, taking what comfort and normalcy he could offer. If she had her empathic ability at hand, she would be in a much better place, but for now she's doing what she can. She wants to be able to be there for her captain, knowing what they all went through at Shinzon's hands, but she has to be there for herself first. She won't be any good to anyone until she can handle her own troubles.

"What kind of things happen?" she asks cautiously.

"Sector six is particularly dangerous. And recently some of the species escaped into the rest of the dome. It was quite dangerous." He explained. "But by the next day it had been taken care of. Counselor, we will stay united and together we will work toward getting back to the Enterprise. Back to our lives. You are not alone."

It's good to hear that they were taken care of, but what catches and holds Deanna's attention is what he says afterwards. The particular care and attention given to her state of mind, whether or not he intended to, is far more reassuring than anything he's said before. It's what she needs to hear in the wake of everything with Shinzon and it's that reassurance that will help her deal with a lot of things here.

"Thank you, Captain," she finally responds, her voice soft and her smile grateful. Somehow, she thinks he might possibly understand what she's going through, or at least that she needs the support of the people she's come to think of as family. Part of that is doing her part to help them, too. "Once I'm more familiar with the way things work here, I would like to resume my duties." As a counselor, she means. It's the way she can help everyone stay united and work towards getting back. It would be easier with her abilities, but she can adapt if she has to and in this situation she might just have to.

"I would sincerely hope that you would." Of course her presence would have been wonderful for Data after Seven had left, and now Geordi. The Android had even resorted to turning off his emotions chip. He would worry about himself and what the recent reemergence of Locutus had done to him. But he's more worried about Data.

"You have been sorely missed. And very needed." And Jean-Luc knows that being needed can go quite a long way, telepathic abilities or not.

"Then I hope I can help while we're all here," Deanna answers, her smile warming just enough to convey that she really means that. She wants to be useful, to help them all if they need it and be there for them throughout their time here. He's right about being needed; that's what they all desire most, to have a place to fill and people who care enough to miss them when they're gone.

"Is there anything you need me to do right now?" Does he need to speak with her about certain things or does he want to wait until later to brief her on things?
