[ day 253 ] action :: open
[ Option One ]

First thing in the morning, Jean-Luc stops by the Defense Force headquarters to check in. He makes a habit of this every other day or so, just to see if he's needed in any manner but his usual patrol duties. So he can be found here with a fresh cup of steaming tea. He probably won't remain for long though, so catch him while you can if you need him.

[ Option Two ]

As often as he frequents the library, he should probably set up residence there. A home away from home, sort of thing. But nevertheless, he is at the library again. He's perusing the bookshelves, for the rare novelty of a book from another world that Earth. He frequently finds them in this place, as the prison does pull people in from everywhere. And this is his own personal way to continue his exploration of the Universe. Books, after all, are one of the most obvious founts of knowledge. And we know what people say of idle minds...

[ Closed to Helen Magnus ]

Jean-Luc has packed a dinner for both himself and Helen. He had sent her a message to meet at the stables later in the afternoon. He's in the stables, saddling up two horses, one for himself and one for Helen. A bag settles on the ground at his feet. He's in full riding attire. But yes, he has accepted that this meeting of theirs is an actual date. And he's okay with that.

"It is a necessity," Tieria said. "I am merely filling in the holes until we are properly staffed." It was expected, right? He was doing his job. He didn't think there was anything overly kind about it. Then again, Tieria wasn't a good judge of 'kind', either.

Jean-Luc had been a commanding officer for so long that he knew that sometimes finding someone to take initiative and fill a vacant roll on their own was easier said than done. "I wonder, what do you fill your free time here in the Dome with?"

It was a curious question, and Tieria looked almost puzzled by it for a moment. His head tilted ever so slightly as he considered the response.

"That would depend on your definition of 'free time'," he responded. "If you consider all of my time spent in the dome, I am assistant teacher for the economics class and I take regular patrols on the team of Captain Jack Harkness for the Defense Force. These shifts here at dispatch have been extra." He paused for only a second.

"However, if by 'free time', you are referring to time not spent doing a work-like activity, I prefer to read. However, I enjoy cooking and some physical activities, like swimming." That last one was a recent interest, something he had picked up because it felt a little like floating inside VEDA.

Jean-Luc listens with interest, although he had assumed that free time meaning out of work activity was something of a universal thing, he could understand that some might be confused by it. So he was still very attentive an interested through Tieria's explanation to get to the activities that were not driven by duty.

His brows lift at the mention of reading. "Ah. May I ask what you enjoy reading?"

"I enjoy historical fiction, period pieces mostly." His tone seemed to brighten a little, almost lift at the discussion of something other than work. It wasn't as flat sounding. "I am assuming you like to read as well. What genres?"

"Yes, I do. Classic literature." He pauses, thinking about his discussion with Reid. "Are you familiar with the plays and sonnets of William Shakespeare?"

"I am," he said, actually invested in the conversation now. This was a lot better than just talking shop. He could do that on autopilot, and often did. "I have read some of his work. There is a lot of it here in the library."

"Indeed. And I do hope that they remain there indefinitely." As he knew that occasionally the books were prone to cycle through. "I had thought to attempt to put together a table reading of sorts, or perhaps even a few of his plays. Would you be interested?"

At that, Picard received a somewhat puzzled look from Tieria.

"A table reading? What is a table reading?" Because these were things VEDA deemed unnecessary for Tieria to function properly as a Gundam Meister.

Picard is more than happy to explain. "Oh it's exactly as it sounds. A group of people who love the word each pick a part in the play and read said part through its entirety. It is a performance of sorts, without actually acting it out, only using the voice."

"Hm." He looked thoughtful for a moment, as if trying to determine exactly what that meant. "That sounds interesting. I would at least like to see it."

This way, he could try to understand it better. It sounded sort of like being undercover on a mission, but without the whole interacting with the enemy part.

Jean-Luc smiled very slightly at the interest. "Perhaps, as things come together, you will get to. And also, perhaps, someday you might even participate."

He nodded.

"I would not mind trying that."

He was branching out a bit more. He'd probably come around to trying it eventually.

"What were you considering for your first reading?"

He seems to consider this for a moment. "I thought perhaps... Hamlet." He offers. "Of course I will address the opportunity to the dome at large within a few days so that we might fill as many parts as possible."

"It is good to have an idea ahead of time," Tieria said. "Though, some may want to offer input on other options. Perhaps that could be a future method of choosing which plays to read." Putting it to a group vote? It was a thought.
