[ Charlotte is looking slightly worse for wear this fine day, part of her head covered in a bandage and eyes lacking the luster of a good nights sleep. She's contemplative, idly picking at the remnants of a pie on her plate (pear and gruyere, what else?). ]

You know, I was thinking... this is the first time I live on my own. I went from living with my dad to living with my aunts and then Ned. I've never really been on my own like this before... and that was fine, until yesterday. Not that yesterday was as bad as it could've been of course, but it still brings you pause.

How many of us live alone here? It seems like it'd be nice to have a roommate, someone who'll notice if you get eaten by a dinosaur or disappear or... you know. Lots of stuff could happen.

That's very kind of you... maybe I can repay you somehow? Do you like pie?

That's hardly necessary, but if you feel the need, I do quite enjoy a good pie.

It's really no trouble, I bake more pies than I know what to with as it is. What's your favorite flavor?

I like most anything. Care to surprise me? As long as it isn't coffee-based I think you'll find I'm difficult to disappoint.

Alright. We mostly baked with fruit down at the Pie Hole. Coffee on the side. [ Fruit because Ned never ran out of a fresh supply. ]

[ she gives a gentle laugh at that. ]

I'm British to the core. I can't even stand coffee on the side. If you really want to get on my good side, tea is always a safe bet.

That's funny. One of my neighbors is British and he makes great coffee... though maybe it doesn't count if you're Welsh? I never could get that straight, so I'm sorry if I just offended you horribly. Or him, for that matter.

[ no offense taken here. on the contrary, she just laughs even more. good going, charlotte. she officially loves you. ]

It sounds like he's been taken in by an uncivilized dark side, but I suppose someone has to take the hit for the rest of us. If he likes coffee, he would get on quite well with a colleague of mine.

Don't tell him I said this, but there's a good chance that uncivilized dark side is named Jack. [ Joking! Joking. ]

Then we have an agreement. [ Grinning. ] It was really nice talking to you, Helen. I can't believe we haven't met before.

[ helen offers a warm smile in return. ] Simply haven't crossed paths yet, it would seem, though I agree. It's been quite lovely.

It's weird how big this dome is when you think about it. I mean, we're not really that many down here and still we manage to miss each other.

Just one of those things, I suppose.

It doesn't help if you're like me and tend to spend most of your time in one place.

I suppose not... I try to explore more, but I guess old habits die hard. I usually have to stay in the same place, back home.

Most days I work in the clinic, so I can't say I'm a shining example of exploration, either.

and then I realized they have talked before. Woops.

i was taking it that she meant they haven't met in person before this, if that helps!

Indeed, though with a decided lack of daily patients, I may need to find something else to fill my time. [ like the class euphie's been quietly encouraging her to begin teaching. ]

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

that does help!

I suppose that's a bit bitter-sweet... people staying safe is good, but if that also means you're kind of out of a job I can see the frustration. [ Hmn. ] Do you have any hobbies? Anything you like to do in your spare time?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

let's roll with that XD ♥

Quite so. I like not seeing many people injured, but it does give me a certain feeling of idleness, which I quite dislike. [ aand this is starting to sound suspiciously like other conversations she's had recently. she offers an amused smile. ] A good deal of things, but none that are quite so easy here. Euphie has been ever so quietly hinting that I should take up teaching a course on Earth languages and I will admit to giving it some thought. That would keep me busy.

[ Well, that sure got her to perk up. ] Really? What languages were you thinking of?

(Reply to this) (Parent) (Thread)

[info]lifelines

Only a small handful of the ones I know, most likely, unless someone's feeling like an adventurous independent study. I was thinking of offering a few European languages, a Romance and Germanic language or two. Perhaps begin with French or Latin, move on to Italian. I suppose it really depends on who comes and what they're interested in.

[ she knows quite a few lesser known languages as well and would be happy to offer those to select interested parties. ]

Oh, that would be great! Well, actually I'm already fluent in French and German but if you do any of the others then sign me up!

[ French, German, Swedish, Chinese and Japanese. Anything else would be awesome. ]

Absolutely I can. Are those the only two languages you know?

[ this counts as getting helen started talking about things she could ramble on all day. now she'll never stop. ]

Oh, no! I know Swedish, Chinese and Japanese as well... and English, of course. Blame it on a lot of time to kill and access to language tapes.
