And oh dear, does poor Spikey feel like everyone just gives up on him? I wonder why that could be? [Automatically carrying on with the taunting, to cover the fact that his brain's whizzing away at a hundred miles an hour.]

[He’s tempted to go into another attempt to explain that he doesn’t actually want to kill Spike if he doesn’t have to – which isn’t solely for personal reasons but also because he’s the sort of hero who does try to rehabilitate people before having to resort to killing them – but he’s had enough of this back and forth. He’s had a fucking long couple of days, and he just doesn’t have the enthusiasm for this that he might have on another day.]

Think what you like, Spike, I really don’t care. Now, if you’ll excuse me, I have some sleep to catch up on.
