'Bout a week ago, some guy asked me how many people I'd seen come an' go since I got here. In three months it's somethin' like... 70 out of 110. Probably more now, I ain't bothered countin'... but that kinda stuff can really get you down, even when you don't know th' numbers. We lose people all th' time here. People we got to know here, friends from back home... [ He falls silent for a beat. Draws a steadying breath. ] An' it's sad. It's damn sad an' there ain't nothin' we can do 'bout it but keep goin'.

...I guess I just wanted t' remind y'all about th' Memorial Garden down in Sector 4. Anyone who wants t' plant somethin' there in memory of someone they lost, whether they were here or back home... you're welcome to. It's for all of us, th' ones that are still here an' the ones that aren't.

Hey, Sougo... I need your help with somethin'.

[ Aidan will be dividing his day between lugging boxes between Sector 2 and 4, and later spending a few long hours in the Memorial Garden. Feel free to approach the pensive country boy! ]

	Still, I mean... you guys were nice enough to take me in, th' least I can do is keep a clean house. [ And while we're on the subject. ] So just tell me if you want someone to clean or... or cook, I guess! I ain't so good with th' cooking, but I can make somethin' edible at least. If you'd like to cook, that would be a great help. Sougo and I aren't terribly picky, so we'll enjoy anything you care to make.

But as far as taking you in... it was somewhat of a selfish request, actually, rather than a favor to you. You and Sougo need each other, and I would love nothing more than to see you both happy. [She'd contemplated whether she should remain in the apartment after that, briefly.] I much prefer to live in a home that's busy and cluttered than a home that's silent and still.

Ain't gonna argue 'bout that... guess I'm just so used to takin' care of m'self, it's still a bit weird to let someone else do it. I mean, I've crashed on couches before, but that was just a few nights an' I almost always paid 'em back somehow.

Ain't needed anyone like this since I was a kid. [ Ten? Eleven? When did he start to take care of himself like an adult? ]

[She nods in a slow, pensive way.] I believe I know what you mean. I know it very well. [Lacus accepts help and protection, but she's never needed it. She's the one who leads, inspires, and yes protects others. Feeling as vulnerable as she recently has is new and not very comfortable.] Perhaps we will both learn together.

For now... there is one thing I would like to share with you, if it's all right. And, it's possible I may need a bit of advice. [Whether that makes him feel better or worse, she can't begin to guess. Still, she expects he will value her being honest either way. Even if this, truly, is nothing she wants to make sound bigger than it is. Whatever is between her and Sougo is nothing she intends to hurry into (at least when poisoned cake isn't involved) and maybe nothing she intends to pursue at all, being too lost in grief to be ready for any such thing. But not letting Aidan know feels wrong.]

[She hesitates, but only for a breath. It's not a secret, exactly.]

There are times when it seems possible that between Sougo and I, there may be something more than friendship. [The underlying emotion in Lacus as she speaks is far from girlish joy. Not so far as regret, but an uncertainty that, for her, is extremely unusual. Aidan knows she's still missing Kira, which makes this all the more strange for her. Lacus isn't one to stall in moving on if it's how she feels, and yet all the same, this time she can't, and not only for her own sake.]

[Then, a small smile.] Saying it aloud makes it sound much bigger and more solid than it is. Much of it took place when this place... influenced us. [The therapy day and the cake disaster, to name two.] But I wanted you to know, nonetheless. If for no other reason than if something should happen to me...

[That sentence doesn't really need completed. They both know how hard it is for Sougo to get close to people, and to lose those he cares about.]

Oh, so... you and Sougo...

[ He can't quite wrap his head around it, mostly because he himself is not a man that falls in love easily and he kind of thought she was similar. Wishful thinking, perhaps, a desire to make the people you like more like yourself even when they're not, but it still confuses him to no end.

Kira back home, Neil here, Tyki... and now Sougo? That's a lot for a lifetime. It's not a world he can understand, but you don't need understanding for acceptance. ]

That's, uh. That's... good?
