[237] Struggling with my humanity or lack thereof therapy
[ Considering the nature of the group, it's unsurprising that it is being held in The Blood Shack. There is a sign on the door announcing that the bar is closed for therapy adding that if you're here for the 'Struggling with my humanity of the lack thereof' therapy session, please come in and make yourself at home. Someone (not Eric) has made over the bar so that it looks a great deal like an AA room rather than a bar. The tables are arranged into a square shape (yes, the way you used to sit in school). The bar is open, but the alcoholic beverages have been locked up. The blood taps are available and there's a selection of bottled blood sitting on top of the bar. It is clearly self serve. There's also a selection of pastries on the bar for those that like a little nibble with their blood. Next to this is a large fishbowl filled with folded slips of paper. There's a small sign next to it that urges each participant to take a question from the fishbowl, help yourself to some refreshment and have a seat.

On their folded slips of paper, participants will find such questions:

Were you ever human? If so, when was that? What are you now?
How do you define 'humanity'?
What is your opinion of humans? Why? How did you develop this opinion?
Discuss the relationships you currently have with humans.
What is the most important factor in maintaining your humanity? Do you feel it's important to maintain?
Has there been a change in your humanity, for the better or worse? What prompted that?
Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of humanity.

Just in case anyone has any doubt that we're here for business and not pleasure, the jukebox has been locked down as well.]

ooc:as with other posts, don't feel limited by these questions. Feel free to add your own and assume these are just some of the questions in the fishbowl. Mingle, make new threads, interrupt threads and enjoy! Note that your character does not have to be non-human to be here! Humans struggle with their humanity sometimes too!

[The fact the meeting was being held in the Blood Shack would normally be enough to make Klara feel a sense of foreboding. Since she had arrived she'd managed to avoid making a strong presence for herself here. She hadn't wanted to be seen or notice and Eric helped out with that. But after the last meeting, she was feeling...calm. It was strange really. The idea that other people might see her usually made her hide until she thought the coast was clear.

For some reason she feels more...open today than she usually does and maybe that's why she doesn't shy away from walking up to the bar. She reads over the sign and reaches into the bowl to pull out a slip of paper. She reads it out loud while she walks over to one of the empty tables.]

What would you do if you had your humanity taken away from you? Has this already happened?

[Do vampires even have humanity?]

[ Eric sees Klara walk in, but he's busy sulking at one of the corners of the square, blood in hand. He arches an eyebrow at her question. ]

To properly answer that question, it would seem we're going to define humanity. For the moment, we'll stick with the soft, squishy bits and if they took my humanity from me, the mood I'm in, I suspect I'd slaughter the lot of you.

Wouldn't that be pleasant?

[ He's a very cranky vampire right now. He hasn't had enough drugs to make him happy and complacent, but he rarely needs drugs to make him honest. ]

[Klara may have had enough spiked food and drink for the both of them. She sits and props her chin on one of her elbows, looking him over.]

Then it's a good thing you still care about us. I wouldn't want you to waste your time trying to kill me over and over.

[ Eric smirks. ]

Ah, but without any humanity, that in itself could be entertaining.

Or you'd get bored of it sooner. [...Did she mean to say that out loud? Maybe she should watch her tongue.]

But how do you know its your humanity that stops you for wanting to do something like that? I've met people here who aren't human at all, but they...care just as much as anybody I know. [Mostly she's thinking of Callie.] Is it "humanity" of people who aren't humans can be born with it?

You're probably right. [ A sigh at that. ]

Because before my maker developed a sense of humanity and sought to instill it in me, I could have cared less about the fate of humans in general.

[ He ponders this. ] I assume it's a word that has been attributed to a quality that exists in many species not human, but humans likely use it the most.

It's strange that humans are how we measure whether someone cares, but historically humans have done more damage to themselves and to the world than any other species.

[She would not be saying that if she had not enjoyed her fill of tea and pastries that didn't make her nauseous.]

Maybe it's because we envy them in some way.

I'd try to get it back. [Duh. Stupidest question ever, and Zelgadis wouldn't even ordinarily answer it except that for some reason he can't seem to shut up even though he would much rather sit and silently stew.]

Does it matter to you? Getting it back, if you've lost it.

Humans are unhappy all of the time. I don't think having humanity changes that. You just feel it more when people turn you away. [She is pretty sure her parents haven't been happy in a long time and after what happened to her, she doesn't see how her father could be happy putting up with her.]

[ been there, done that. seven is in perhaps the foulest mood she's ever been in. it's one therapy session to another, forced one way and then the other by the bots into groups where she is compelled to discuss things she normally would not -- especially not with people she doesn't know or trust. (she misses the doctor. she would much rather be dragging her feet through one of his humanity lessons than endure this therapeutic torture.) ]

I don't know.

[ an honest answer, given of her own volition. she has an easier time relating to a child's perspective than she does that of an adult at times, being that the last time she was human, she was a child herself. seven doesn't know if she wants her humanity back. sometimes she does, others she doesn't. there's so much she doesn't remember about being human, so much she doesn't know and doesn't understand. she knows how to be borg better than how to be human, and the people who surround her often make the task seem far more daunting than it actually is. ]
