[237] Struggling with my humanity or lack thereof therapy
[ Considering the nature of the group, it's unsurprising that it is being held in The Blood Shack. There is a sign on the door announcing that the bar is closed for therapy adding that if you're here for the 'Struggling with my humanity of the lack thereof' therapy session, please come in and make yourself at home. Someone (not Eric) has made over the bar so that it looks a great deal like an AA room rather than a bar. The tables are arranged into a square shape (yes, the way you used to sit in school). The bar is open, but the alcoholic beverages have been locked up. The blood taps are available and there's a selection of bottled blood sitting on top of the bar. It is clearly self serve. There's also a selection of pastries on the bar for those that like a little nibble with their blood. Next to this is a large fishbowl filled with folded slips of paper. There's a small sign next to it that urges each participant to take a question from the fishbowl, help yourself to some refreshment and have a seat.

On their folded slips of paper, participants will find such questions:

Were you ever human? If so, when was that? What are you now?
How do you define 'humanity'?
What is your opinion of humans? Why? How did you develop this opinion?
Discuss the relationships you currently have with humans.
What is the most important factor in maintaining your humanity? Do you feel it's important to maintain?
Has there been a change in your humanity, for the better or worse? What prompted that?
Discuss some of the advantages and disadvantages of humanity.

Just in case anyone has any doubt that we're here for business and not pleasure, the jukebox has been locked down as well.]

ooc:as with other posts, don't feel limited by these questions. Feel free to add your own and assume these are just some of the questions in the fishbowl. Mingle, make new threads, interrupt threads and enjoy! Note that your character does not have to be non-human to be here! Humans struggle with their humanity sometimes too!

Or you'd get bored of it sooner. [...Did she mean to say that out loud? Maybe she should watch her tongue.]

But how do you know its your humanity that stops you for wanting to do something like that? I've met people here who aren't human at all, but they...care just as much as anybody I know. [Mostly she's thinking of Callie.] Is it "humanity" of people who aren't humans can be born with it?

You're probably right. [ A sigh at that. ]

Because before my maker developed a sense of humanity and sought to instill it in me, I could have cared less about the fate of humans in general.

[ He ponders this. ] I assume it's a word that has been attributed to a quality that exists in many species not human, but humans likely use it the most.

It's strange that humans are how we measure whether someone cares, but historically humans have done more damage to themselves and to the world than any other species.

[She would not be saying that if she had not enjoyed her fill of tea and pastries that didn't make her nauseous.]

Maybe it's because we envy them in some way.

I suppose it's because they're so much weaker than we are, so much more fragile. It would be easy to eliminate them as an entire race.

[ Eric wouldn't be suggesting such if he hadn't had his share of treated blood. ]

I don't think that's it. Not for me anyway. The only thing I envy them is the ability to walk in the sun.

[Klara frowns a bit.] You can't go outside? I could--can. I meant can. [Of course she did.]

Here I can go outside, but I can't be awake too much during the day. It gives me something called the bleeds. I bleed from my eyes, ears and nose. Back home I would burst into flames if I went into the sun.

[That makes her think more of the vampire stories and legends she read about when she was trying to figure out what she was.]

So you're a classic vampire. I don't know what I am. The books...they don't really talk about vampires with much authority. Everyone says something different.

Classic? [He ponders this a moment. In many ways, she's right. ] I suppose so. [ His brow furrows a moment. ] How did you become a vampire if you don't mind me asking.

[She shouldn't be talking about this so openly, not in a room filled with people. But here she is and for some reason, she doesn't feel the urge to stop.]

I don't remember all of it. She bit me and I thought I was going to die. But I didn't. She made me drink something that tasted terrible. I woke up in my bed later. [Maybe her parents should have known something was wrong then, when she didn't die, and when the gouges in her neck healed without even the trace of a scar.]

It sounds as if you were made much like me. [ Except that Eric volunteered to be turned. Godric gave him a choice, but he didn't explain everything. It was still quite a shock to 'wake up dead'. ]

I didn't want to be what I am. [She knows he said he made that choice before, that to him it was to avenge his family, but Klara hadn't asked to be a monster.] Maybe I would have begged anyway because no one wants to die when they're dying. But at least I would have had a choice.

[Eric considers that a moment, nodding. ] Yes. I believe choice does help one deal with their new lives.

You're not going to kill anyone, Klara. Not if I can help out. [ She's far too young to have that weigh on her. Eric cares very little about killing others outside of the fact that his maker would be disappointed in him, that is' wasteful and it's poor PR. He doesn't want to have to answer to the authority if he kills someone. He's killed so many that the numbers no longer bother him. Clearly the idea bothers Klara and he wants to spare her that.]

[She stares at him intensely, because she believes he means it, that he will do whatever he can to help her. He's done nothing to make her question him since she arrived. But there is only one surefire way to make sure that happens.]

Would you kill me if you had to? To protect humans from me.

[He does mean it and there are few people who he would make that offer.

He hesitates, pondering that. It's something he's been asked in a way before. ]

As a last resort, if that was truly what you wanted.
