237 - Self-acceptance group mingle
[ The Accept Yourself Support Group is told to report to one of the rooms in the Sector 4 art center. The room is cosy and warmly lit with a bunch of plush armchairs set in a circle around a low table. On the table is a basket full of photographs, a stack of handheld mirrors and a card with the instructions. The photographs are all of inanimate objects, abstract patterns or landscapes, buildings or nature. ]

• Find a photograph that you feel represents you as a person. Take turns in the group to explain why you've chosen that card.

• Look at yourself in the mirror for five minutes. Take turns in the group to explain what it is you see in your reflection.

• Discuss why you see yourself this way. Discuss how you see those around you. Discuss the differences. Discuss how you can be more honest with yourself and your potential.

[ For those that are not yet ready to get going on the activities, there's plenty of delicious snacks and refreshing drinks available, as well as soothing music to ease the awkwardness. Let the self-examination begin! ]

[Eyeroll] Don't be an idiot. There's a difference between doing it, and doing it in public on a table. Do you really need attention that badly?

Do you not know where you are? Obviously I do, otherwise there would be no point to being in this therapy session right now.

[He shrugs.]

That doesn't even make sense. Accepting yourself has nothing to do with being disgusting to get attention. What sort of moron are you?

[He makes a fist!]

A moron with a lot of inner turmoil, confused feelings, and yearning to learn how to accept himself!

[Is that dramatic enough? He was trying really hard!]

[Whoa, talk about a sharp left turn in the conversation.]

Then I don't think you're going about it the right way. Not that I know a lot about accepting myself, but I have friends that do and mostly they spend a lot of time being nice to people. [He and Lina are the outliers, people who overcompensate for insecurity in very opposite ways.]

[He holds up a hand.]

I'll pass.

[SHRUG] Then keep being a jerk and don't accept yourself. No one cares.

That sounds a lot easier to deal with.

[In a strange way.

Being nice is just too much hard work!!]
