237 - Self-acceptance group mingle
[ The Accept Yourself Support Group is told to report to one of the rooms in the Sector 4 art center. The room is cosy and warmly lit with a bunch of plush armchairs set in a circle around a low table. On the table is a basket full of photographs, a stack of handheld mirrors and a card with the instructions. The photographs are all of inanimate objects, abstract patterns or landscapes, buildings or nature. ]

• Find a photograph that you feel represents you as a person. Take turns in the group to explain why you've chosen that card.

• Look at yourself in the mirror for five minutes. Take turns in the group to explain what it is you see in your reflection.

• Discuss why you see yourself this way. Discuss how you see those around you. Discuss the differences. Discuss how you can be more honest with yourself and your potential.

[ For those that are not yet ready to get going on the activities, there's plenty of delicious snacks and refreshing drinks available, as well as soothing music to ease the awkwardness. Let the self-examination begin! ]

[ this is the second group aradia's been to today, after the time group, and she's definitely made emotionally pliable by all the snacks she'd previously consumed. it might seem weird for her to be here, as overall, she's pretty set in herself and her identity.

but when she plops down in front of a mirror, stares critically for a few moments, then declares: ]

[ seven doesn't have a problem. she's accepted what she is, that she will spend the rest of her existence as part-borg human, and has made her peace with it. to be upset about it would be futile, as there was nothing that could be done to completely free her from the technology implanted throughout her body. she was a drone for too long, matured as one, and the doctor did all he could. and in truth, rendering her 100% human would likely be a more startling experience for her than leaving her as she is to deal with the prejudice she will encounter when and if voyager ever returns to the alpha quadrant.

Am I expected to be unable to bear my own reflection? [ a gesture to the man in the mirror, who of course gestures back. ] Am I, perhaps, expected to weep? [ a cold, mocking chuckle. ]

[Dozens of questions and reasons for why he got put into this group went through Richie's head after he looked over the instructions. Still it seems a little weird because he's not really a person with big issues. He's well-adjusted for a teenage superhero if he says so himself.

But he looks over the photos anyway, not really finding any that stick with him until he comes across one of a moving bullet train.]

This is probably as close as it gets without a bunch of people moving in and out.
