237 - Self-acceptance group mingle
[ The Accept Yourself Support Group is told to report to one of the rooms in the Sector 4 art center. The room is cosy and warmly lit with a bunch of plush armchairs set in a circle around a low table. On the table is a basket full of photographs, a stack of handheld mirrors and a card with the instructions. The photographs are all of inanimate objects, abstract patterns or landscapes, buildings or nature. ]

• Find a photograph that you feel represents you as a person. Take turns in the group to explain why you've chosen that card.

• Look at yourself in the mirror for five minutes. Take turns in the group to explain what it is you see in your reflection.

• Discuss why you see yourself this way. Discuss how you see those around you. Discuss the differences. Discuss how you can be more honest with yourself and your potential.

[ For those that are not yet ready to get going on the activities, there's plenty of delicious snacks and refreshing drinks available, as well as soothing music to ease the awkwardness. Let the self-examination begin! ]

[Dozens of questions and reasons for why he got put into this group went through Richie's head after he looked over the instructions. Still it seems a little weird because he's not really a person with big issues. He's well-adjusted for a teenage superhero if he says so himself.

But he looks over the photos anyway, not really finding any that stick with him until he comes across one of a moving bullet train.]

This is probably as close as it gets without a bunch of people moving in and out.

Why did you pick that one?

[Richie gives a little shrug.] Because trains are fast and busy? Lots of things going on, lots of places to be, but usually running late, reliable and irregular at the same time.

Oh yeah, that makes sense. That's pretty clever, actually. [ She flips her own two choices over in her hand. ]

[He looks them over.] I'm guessing the grave is...a metaphor?

[Unless she's one of those people who happens to be dead back in their world. He's met a few.]

Actually, uhm... not really. [ She shifts, but the truth drugs are strong in this one. ] I died.

Oh. Ah. That sucks. [He's not sure what else to say to that.] Good thing about getting that fixed and not coming out of it looking like a zombie.

Yeah, I definitely count myself lucky. [ Little smile. ] My boyfriend brought me back. He's good at that. Not that he was my boyfriend at the time.

Brought you...back. As in he went full-on "raise the dead"? [Wow, now there was some seriously sci-fi info right there.] Does he just go around bringing people back to life?

Pretty much, yeah. On both accounts. Most of them don't stay alive though... actually, I'm the only one that have.

It's complicated.

Dome what--[It takes him a second to get that.] Man, that is so nasty I might not have a word in my vocabulary to adequately describe it.

Definitely not...that. [Seriously who thought of that right off the bat? He's a guy and he didn't even turn it into some creepy innuendo.]

It's busy, fast, active and those people all have things going on and goals for where they want to go, but for a while they're all moving in the same direction and going the same way--until they aren't anymore.

Uh...it's a bit of a metaphor yeah, but I wouldn't call funky parallels all that poetic. [He's not a poetry man, himself. He laughs, but it's more making fun of himself than anything.] If you could take a picture of the internet, I'd have gone with that.

Huh? [This guy is kind of weird.] Metaphors, man. I'm not even full of myself enough to think I am the internet. [He laughs a bit at the thought.] I don't think my life could deal with all those cat videos.

What about yours? [Subject change!]

[That is kind of deep. And disturbing.] You do know that tornados only really cause as much damage as they do because humans built cities on their home turf, right? It's not like they exist to ruin things. They just...exist.

What about you?
