237 - Self-acceptance group mingle
[ The Accept Yourself Support Group is told to report to one of the rooms in the Sector 4 art center. The room is cosy and warmly lit with a bunch of plush armchairs set in a circle around a low table. On the table is a basket full of photographs, a stack of handheld mirrors and a card with the instructions. The photographs are all of inanimate objects, abstract patterns or landscapes, buildings or nature. ]

• Find a photograph that you feel represents you as a person. Take turns in the group to explain why you've chosen that card.

• Look at yourself in the mirror for five minutes. Take turns in the group to explain what it is you see in your reflection.

• Discuss why you see yourself this way. Discuss how you see those around you. Discuss the differences. Discuss how you can be more honest with yourself and your potential.

[ For those that are not yet ready to get going on the activities, there's plenty of delicious snacks and refreshing drinks available, as well as soothing music to ease the awkwardness. Let the self-examination begin! ]

[ this is the second group aradia's been to today, after the time group, and she's definitely made emotionally pliable by all the snacks she'd previously consumed. it might seem weird for her to be here, as overall, she's pretty set in herself and her identity.

but when she plops down in front of a mirror, stares critically for a few moments, then declares: ]

I am incredibly out of place.

I do? [She hasn't noticed many people with dark skin like hers in the Dome. Sure, she doesn't stand out like the people with blue skin or grey skin, but she also thinks they look kinda cool while she looks like a hick. (Not usually. Usually she's quite confident in herself and how she looks. But when she's tired and low, that's one of the insecurities that sets in.)]

I'm from a planet called Alternia. Before it was destroyed, it was populated entirely by a species colloquially referred to as trolls, which I am a part of. We did share some similarities with human culture, but for the most part, it was nothing like this, either.

The advancements in technology aren't as hard to get used to so much as the human-dominated culture influence. Not that there's anything wrong with humans, of course, they're lovely! It's just...new.
