237 | Avoidance Group* Therapy Mingle
(*Also known under the snappy alternative name "If I ignore my problems, maybe they'll go away" Group.)

[In the usually so quiet library where we lay our scene, things are a little less quiet and a little less library-like, given that today it's full of bots, a few tables with neat little trays full of assorted snacks, and - of course - therapy subjects in varying states of willingness.

The robots, true to form, don't bother anyone who doesn't try to leave. Those who do try will have their path brusquely cut off and their attention directed to a whiteboard at the far end of the room - it's mostly empty, with plenty of room for writing, except for one sentence in the middle of the board, written in red: "Admitting to one's problems opens doors." Is that an attempt at an inspirational message, or meant to be taken literally? We just don't know.

There's also a table just beneath the whiteboard with little stacks of cards with suggested discussion topics (with instructions to work in pairs or smaller groups, taking turns to answer the questions).]

• Share one of your ambitions. What are actions you have taken in order to fulfill it? Are there more things you could do? Give suggestions on more ways of working towards your goals.

• Share one of your fears. What are actions you have taken in order to stop it from coming through? Are there actions you have actively avoided taking? Does the group have any fears in common?

• Are there certain tasks, responsibilities or situations you often find yourself avoiding in everyday life? If yes, how do you get out of them? Is there an alternative approach? Give and compare examples, discuss reasons.

• Is there something currently worrying you? If so, what? If your fears were to be realised, what is the worst-case scenario for it? Is there a best-case scenario? Brainstorm possible ways of solving the situation.

• What is one difficult situation you have experienced recently? How did you deal with it?

• Share one achievement you feel proud of having accomplished.

[There are also a number of scenarios along the lines of "You have a work assignment due tomorrow, but a friend calls you inviting you to a night out. What do you do?" as well ask the questions that can be found scrolling down this site. Feel free to make up your own!]

It's not avoiding. It's just a conflict of interests. My job comes first. Everything else gets pushed away.

You guys know how it is, right?

[Korra's seated cross-legged on the floor, obstinately disregarding the chairs. Her arms are crossed because she's still annoyed, but she's calmed down some since her ignoble entrance.]

I dunno. I think if something is really important to you, you make the time for it. [Sure, her Avatar training came first, but she still found time to train with the Fire Ferrets and play with the airbender kids. (Except for those few weeks when she didn't, but that's because she was trying to avoid thinking about Amon and how much he scared her. She's also conveniently forgetting about that.)]

But there're only so many hours in a day. You can't do everything, and even things that matter to you...

[He puts his chin down on one fist, reflecting.] If you have responsibilities, people to take care of, you have to put that first. No matter how badly it hurts your personal life.

What kind of responsibilities?

Stopping criminals. Ones the police can't.

Your friends are sick of you doing that?

Because it'd expose them to more danger.

Sure. It can be quite the balancing act at times.

[Though it's not quite as much of a challenge for Wally since most of the important people in his life know about his "job" and more than a few are even involved in the same line of work.]

Does your girlfriend back home know what it is you do?

Not even a little bit.

She just knows I disappear all the time.

[Wally winces a little at that.]

And your left trying to come up with excuses for why you constantly disappear. That's gotta be rough.

What about your friends? Any of them have a clue?

That's about the size of it, yeah. It gets hard.

One. She's helped cover for me a hundred times.

She sounds like a great friend.

[He picks up a nearby plate full of chocolate chip cookies and stuffs a few into his mouth before offering the plate to Terry.]

I'm pretty lucky that I don't really have to deal with the whole secret identity thing back home. I mean, I have a couple friends from my school that don't know, but Artemis and my other friends are all part of the Team.

She really is.

[Terry grabs a cookie and shoves it in his mouth, mostly to give him an excuse not to talk while he processes the awkward. Artemis. Right.] Yeah, pretty lucky.

I guess it's different on a team, though. You guys can all take care of yourselves and each other. You're not civilians.

[Sorry, but he still doesn't know how awkward the subject of Artemis is for you, Terry. And if he did, you wouldn't have gotten that cookie.]

Yeah, I guess we're all really lucky when you think about it.

So, do you work completely alone? Or is the League still intact in the future? [And if it is, are you even involved with it?]

The League's still around.

I've worked with them a few times, but I've got a very particular standard to live up to.

[One which involves being a huge antisocial jerk.]

[Wally smiles, happy to know the League is still around, and grabs a handful of cookies from the plate before setting it down on a table.]

And would the initials of the person that set that very particular standard happen to be B.W.?

[He knows that things are a little different in Terry's world, with Wally himself being the only Flash and all, so he can't assume the original Batman was Bruce Wayne.]

Could be, could be.

I thought he wasn't big on sharing the secret identities. With anyone, if he could help it.

He's not. But Rob told me his and once he did that, well, you don't have to be the Batman to figure out who Batman was.

[You'd have to be living under a rock in the middle of nowhere to not know that Dick Grayson was Bruce Wayne's ward.]

Yeah.

Similar thing happened with one of my friends. And he's just my boss, not my... [He wants to say dad but he's worried it might upset Wally by proxy.]
