237 | Avoidance Group* Therapy Mingle
(*Also known under the snappy alternative name "If I ignore my problems, maybe they'll go away" Group.)

[In the usually so quiet library where we lay our scene, things are a little less quiet and a little less library-like, given that today it's full of bots, a few tables with neat little trays full of assorted snacks, and - of course - therapy subjects in varying states of willingness.

The robots, true to form, don't bother anyone who doesn't try to leave. Those who do try will have their path brusquely cut off and their attention directed to a whiteboard at the far end of the room - it's mostly empty, with plenty of room for writing, except for one sentence in the middle of the board, written in red: "Admitting to one's problems opens doors." Is that an attempt at an inspirational message, or meant to be taken literally? We just don't know.

There's also a table just beneath the whiteboard with little stacks of cards with suggested discussion topics (with instructions to work in pairs or smaller groups, taking turns to answer the questions).]

• Share one of your ambitions. What are actions you have taken in order to fulfill it? Are there more things you could do? Give suggestions on more ways of working towards your goals.

• Share one of your fears. What are actions you have taken in order to stop it from coming through? Are there actions you have actively avoided taking? Does the group have any fears in common?

• Are there certain tasks, responsibilities or situations you often find yourself avoiding in everyday life? If yes, how do you get out of them? Is there an alternative approach? Give and compare examples, discuss reasons.

• Is there something currently worrying you? If so, what? If your fears were to be realised, what is the worst-case scenario for it? Is there a best-case scenario? Brainstorm possible ways of solving the situation.

• What is one difficult situation you have experienced recently? How did you deal with it?

• Share one achievement you feel proud of having accomplished.

[There are also a number of scenarios along the lines of "You have a work assignment due tomorrow, but a friend calls you inviting you to a night out. What do you do?" as well ask the questions that can be found scrolling down this site. Feel free to make up your own!]

[ hei nearly dropped a chicken wing as Korra was thrown into the room, looking appropriately slack-jawed and shocked. After a moment, he snapped his jaw shut and wiped his hands clean on a napkin before he extended a hand. ]

You must have resisted quite fiercely for that kind of treatment.

[ his eyes might be twinkling with laughter ]

Unfortunately, they are difficult to neutralize. [ especially if one's powers are neutralized. ]

[Korra tries to firebend the ties off of her, but of course the Wardens still have her bending cut off. Great. FANTASTIC. I hate everyone.

She gives Hei a dark look -- you better not be trying to hide your amusement, because if you are? YOU'RE FAILING.]

A little help. Please.

[ Hei nodded and after recognizing the root of her problem, set his plate to the side. This would not be so easily done one handed, especially with those knots. ]

How did they catch you?

[ she must have put up quite the fight, but never fear. He'll have her loose shortly. ]

Turns out robots have more stamina than I do.

[ he tried to keep the smile off his face but failed. ]

Yes, I've seen that truth for myself. [ he shifted, and then started working on her other ties, now that her feet are free. ] I had some small trouble myself back in Squall. [ as she had no doubt noted. His humiliation had occurred in front of those undergoing mandatory exercise. ]

[Korra blinks, and then gives him another look.]

You're THAT guy?!?!

[ Hei nodded, unconcerned with her exclamation ] I'm afraid they are none too gentle with those who go against the rules.

[ and after another long moment, the last knot slips free and Hei stands, extending his hand once again. ]

Can you stand?

Of course I ca-an. [Wow, okay, her limbs were a bit sleepier than she had thought. But Korra catches herself and shakes her legs out to get the blood flowing.]

[ he nodded in approval, stepping back to give her ample room to move. ]

Good. Shall we find you a seat then?

[ because as much as she may loathe being here; there was little sense in avoiding it altogether. A tiny bit of pretending can go a long, long way to getting out of here. ]

[Korra eyes the group askance, and then glances over at the snack table.]

Oh, hey, food!

[Much more interesting than talking.]

[ he flicked a glance to the table and then cleared his throat. ]

Ah, yes, courtesy of our wardens. I'm afraid it isn't much, but it should get us through the hour.

[ he has already been informed he wasn't to eat it all, not that he was interested too much in doing so. And an empty stomach can be quite the conversational starter. ]

[ he scratched his chin ] Really? I could easily eat three times this much. [ for an afternoon snack ]

[Seriously? For a moment, all Korra can do is stare. And then she snorts, the closest thing she's had to a real laugh all day.]

You eat like my friend Bart. Don't tell me you have super speed too.

[ he turned and looked her square in the face, surprised. ]

Uh, no... isn't it normal to just eat this much?

[ although he knows it isn't by a long shot. He's had this conversation many times before in the past. It was... almost nostalgic. ]

Not really, no.

[It's said with good humor. It's not like her plate is particularly empty...]

[ . . . he glances down at her plate and forms a silent "oh" just before he blushes. ]

Ah, well... I suppose it is a little strange, maybe. [ he nodded towards the food ] Why don't you choose first? [ since, you know... he could eat the whole hall and still go out for seconds. ]

No this is more than enough for me. [Her plate's piled pretty high, because grabbing food is easier than talking.

I mean. Because she's hungry.]
