[Day 237] Relationship Issues Group Therapy mingle
[The relationships group therapy attendees will all get a message telling them to report to The Winery in Sector 2. Sadly for them the alcohol is locked away, but there is an assortment of food and non-alcoholic beverages along the bar for consumption. Many of the tables have been cleared out and the chairs rearranged into a circle with booths along the edges for more intimate therapeutic discussions.

And don't forget the party favors! The wardens have left some helpful games and activity ideas to get them started. There's a bowl full of folded slips of papers with various questions.]

How many people have you slept with? Do you regret any of them? Why?

How many relationships have you been in? Why do you think that is?

What was your longest relationship? Most serious? Shortest? Most casual?

Why did your last relationship end?

What do you look for in another person?

Are you happy?

Who is your ideal mate?

What was the biggest problem/complication in your previous or current relationship?

What do you need out of a relationship? Sexual experience?

How long have you been single between relationships? Why do you think it was so long/short?

What is the best way to break up with someone?

Do you believe in soul mates? Do you think you have or will meet yours?

Would you rather spend your life with one important person or several acquaintances? Why?

Are there any similarities between the people you've been with? If so, what are they?

Do you have trouble making choices? Give examples.

Do you think with your heart, your head, or your genitalia? Are you satisfied with this behavior?

Do you have trouble relating to people? If so, in what way?

[In addition to the questions there are cards with various prompts. One explains the game, I Never. Another suggests people pair off and roleplay they are in a relationship and then deal with various scenarios like what do to if one partner flirts with someone else or comes home late without calling.]

Who should do the dishes?

When is it appropriate to discuss getting blue bands/having sex?

When should you move in together if ever?

What do you do if you suspect the other is keeping secrets?

What do you say if your partner comes home with a haircut you don't like?

How do you respond if you find your partner crying?

How do you decide how to spend your time together?

Your partner's family doesn't like you. What do you do?

One of you is critically hurt. How does the other respond?

Your friends don't like the person you're with. What do you say to them? What do you say to your partner?

One of you wants sexual relations and the other does not. How do you balance your needs?

How do you communicate your desire for a particular sexual desire to your partner?

It is your partner's birthday. How do you prepare?

At a party your partner leaves you to socialize with others. How does this make you feel and how do you respond?

How do you show your affection?

(OOC: Mingle style. You are not limited to the questions, scenarios, or games listed above. Assume there are more! I recycled a lot of this from last time so if someone was in this group twice they can feel free to notice, but assume there are lots of questions and prompts, so they probably didn't see them all.)

Sounds a bit like my staff. We've all worked our way into each other's good graces, whether or not the invitation was given. [ funny how someone who had been almost directly involved in ashley's death had come to be such an important part of helen's sanctuary that her life had felt empty without her. she missed kate. funny also to think that jean-luc's words now could also be applied to the two of them, how they had grown to know and respect each other so quickly, working their way past the other's barriers, coming to care for each other despite their own difficulties.

her expression softens a bit as she watches him, fondness tainting her gaze as she shifts to more fully face him. ]
Absolutely. One must always know the difference and be able to recognize when the stakes are too high and when they aren't high enough. At times, risking it all is the only way to find out.

[ as she had done the other night when she had thrown caution to the wind and kissed him. if they were anywhere else but this place with so many people to watch, she would be so very tempted to kiss him again. their shared embrace had been nice, something she never would have received from anyone else. ]

I'm rather not well-liked by the world's governments at the moment. These days they tend to see me and my work as a barrier they need to cross. The last time one of their representatives decided to play poker with me, he lost in a brilliant display, though I don't think he quite realizes just how badly he lost.

[ Yes, his words did have a double-entendre between himself and his crew and himself and Helen. And the pointed look he had given her as he'd said them had shown that he had intended them as such. He is equally fond of her, obvious in the way he leans in just a bit as they talk, in the way he absorbs every word she says. He finds her so uniquely interesting even in an abnormal setting such as this. ]

I have found that there are times that being disliked by a certain faction of people gives me an intense satisfaction. Perhaps, Helen, such perception means that you are doing something right.

In my case, it meant freedom. [ freedom in a sense that she hasn't yet explained to him. freedom, meaning she no longer had to listen to the world's governments about her abnormals and the sanctuary business. of course, it would mean a great deal of trouble, she's certain, but with her plans in the works, it will be a very good thing in the long run. ]

Though I suppose have a point. It was intensely satisfying to tell Addison to leave the premises or I'd arrange for him to be eaten.

[ though she's trying to hide a grin at this point, she's actually quite serious. she did, in all honesty, threaten the man with that, but she'd had her reasons. addison never could have understood what the sanctuary was and stood for. if he had attempted to take over, he would have been overwhelmed by the sheer volume of her work and if one of the difficult choices cropped up, she doubted he could have made the right decision. ]

[ Jean-Luc arches a brow, his look suddenly very amused and interested. ]

I believe there is a story there waiting to be told.

There is indeed. [ her voice and expression are entirely teasing with that, as though she knows she's being a tease. he likely wants to know the story and she's willing to tell him the full thing... just not here. however, she can give him a taste. ]

It's too long a story for the moment [ her eyes also say that it's a story she doesn't want to tell here. ] but suffice it to say that the United Nations sent in a representative a few weeks ago, just prior to my arrival here. They felt that my work wasn't going in the direction they wanted and Addison was sent to pry a story out of two of us. He treated us as though we would lie to him and once he made his ruling against us, I told him to get out. He didn't seem to take it very well.

[ she doesn't seem particularly bothered by this, though, and there's more to the story than what she's saying. a lot more. for now, her gaze is only for him, her eyes saying that she will give him the full story another day. ]

[ Having faced numerous intergalactic governing factions, Jean-Luc could understand the intricacies of the sort of situation she was hinting at. The Prime Directive aside, there was always the push and pull, give and take, proverbial chess pieces moving on a board that came with any diplomatic negotiations or military council. He could also understand the irritation that came when things didn't lean in his favor. ]

Yes, that does indeed sound like a story that I hope to someday hear the entirety of. I thought of attempting to negotiate my way out of this, but then thought it better to pick my battles and meet halfway if just in attendance.

[ she'd had a feeling he would be able to understand what she meant, the choice she'd been faced with during that situation, and she's fairly certain he'll understand the full story when she finally gives it. there's far more to it than just addison's inspection. there was also the fact that she and will had been lying to him, to intentionally make him wary of them. her poker face is quite good indeed.

she doesn't respond to his comment about the story. by now he should know quite well that she's willing to tell him the entirety of it later. so instead of saying anything immediately, she reaches across the short distance between them and gently rests a hand on his arm. her touch is meant to be brief, so as not to be overly obvious in a setting such as this, particularly when they have yet to discuss whatever emotions lie between them. ]

I'm rather glad you decided to come. [ otherwise they wouldn't be having this conversation and she has to admit that his presence here has made the entire event more bearable on the whole. ] Otherwise I might have to hunt you down to ask if your offer of going out to tea is still open, either later today or another day when we haven't been subjected to all of this nonsense.

[ A hint of a smile plays over his lips. He's actually glad that she remembered his offer of tea. Although the thought of doing so today didn't appeal. The day was already emotionally wrought with things that most would usually keep under tight wraps. ]

The prospect of tea with you is the best idea I've heard all day. Perhaps tomorrow or the next day, if your schedule permits.

[ it had been an offer of tea with one of her closest friends here. of course she remembered. her smile warms a little more as she watches him. ]

Of course. I would be happy to rearrange my routine for tea with you. How about the day after? Then we can be certain the hype from all of this will have worn off.

[ and then she can answer some of the questions this whole mess more than likely brought up. ]
