[Day 237] Relationship Issues Group Therapy mingle
[The relationships group therapy attendees will all get a message telling them to report to The Winery in Sector 2. Sadly for them the alcohol is locked away, but there is an assortment of food and non-alcoholic beverages along the bar for consumption. Many of the tables have been cleared out and the chairs rearranged into a circle with booths along the edges for more intimate therapeutic discussions.

And don't forget the party favors! The wardens have left some helpful games and activity ideas to get them started. There's a bowl full of folded slips of papers with various questions.]

How many people have you slept with? Do you regret any of them? Why?

How many relationships have you been in? Why do you think that is?

What was your longest relationship? Most serious? Shortest? Most casual?

Why did your last relationship end?

What do you look for in another person?

Are you happy?

Who is your ideal mate?

What was the biggest problem/complication in your previous or current relationship?

What do you need out of a relationship? Sexual experience?

How long have you been single between relationships? Why do you think it was so long/short?

What is the best way to break up with someone?

Do you believe in soul mates? Do you think you have or will meet yours?

Would you rather spend your life with one important person or several acquaintances? Why?

Are there any similarities between the people you've been with? If so, what are they?

Do you have trouble making choices? Give examples.

Do you think with your heart, your head, or your genitalia? Are you satisfied with this behavior?

Do you have trouble relating to people? If so, in what way?

[In addition to the questions there are cards with various prompts. One explains the game, I Never. Another suggests people pair off and roleplay they are in a relationship and then deal with various scenarios like what do to if one partner flirts with someone else or comes home late without calling.]

Who should do the dishes?

When is it appropriate to discuss getting blue bands/having sex?

When should you move in together if ever?

What do you do if you suspect the other is keeping secrets?

What do you say if your partner comes home with a haircut you don't like?

How do you respond if you find your partner crying?

How do you decide how to spend your time together?

Your partner's family doesn't like you. What do you do?

One of you is critically hurt. How does the other respond?

Your friends don't like the person you're with. What do you say to them? What do you say to your partner?

One of you wants sexual relations and the other does not. How do you balance your needs?

How do you communicate your desire for a particular sexual desire to your partner?

It is your partner's birthday. How do you prepare?

At a party your partner leaves you to socialize with others. How does this make you feel and how do you respond?

How do you show your affection?

(OOC: Mingle style. You are not limited to the questions, scenarios, or games listed above. Assume there are more! I recycled a lot of this from last time so if someone was in this group twice they can feel free to notice, but assume there are lots of questions and prompts, so they probably didn't see them all.)

It's best to just do if you aren't hurting anyone. [ It might sound like he's trying to convince himself. Probably because he is. ]

One of the hardest things to work around, I've found. [ especially in her line of work, where someone has to pay a price, no matter what it is. usually she pays it, but sometimes someone else's life is that price. ]

Cause people always get hurt? [ He arches one brow and nods.It does seem like something that's inevitable in a lot of situations. ] Yeah, there's that.

It does seem to be a trend in my line of work. I suppose you learn to live with it.

I thought I'd gotten away from that. The hurting. [ A pause. Because now there are questions about her line of work. ] What do you do?

[ she completely understands, but chooses not to comment on it just yet. instead, she ponders how to explain her work in a concise manner. ]

I work to ensure the peaceful cohabitation between humans and non-humans. Sometimes it involves hiding the Abnormals and giving them a place to stay. Sometimes I can teach them how to live among humans, how to deal with their Abnormality and accept it and the person they've become as a result of that Abnormality.

[ there's a lot she isn't saying about it, a lot related to the difficult choices she's had to make in her life. her work is difficult, her life is a difficult one to live, but she would neither trade it in nor wish it on her worst enemy. it is what it is and it certainly has become a part of her. ]

Abnormals?

[ It's a simple question. But it also seems like the most important. Because he has a feeling he might be considered an abnormal to a lot of people, maybe Helen too. ]

[ that one had slipped out of habit. ] It's what we call beings with genetic Abnormalities, slight deviations in their DNA that aren't considered the baseline for their species. For example, I myself am considered a human Abnormal. My DNA is different. It doesn't make me any more or less human. I'm simply different, as is most of my staff at home.

Huh. [ He wondered what made her abnormal. But he also wondered what she thought of all the Supernatural species here in the dorm. So he asked about something of which he is not. ]

What about vampires?

Mostly the work of fiction these days, but one of my closest friends is a vampire.

[ she's keeping her tone amiable, understanding that he might be asking her to figure out how she reacts to these things. whatever the reason, she remains calm. this is, after all, merely part of her life's work. ]

[ she nods in response. ] Yes, but keep in mind that everything most worlds seem to call "supernatural" is actually a genetic Abnormality in mine. Vampires may look like humans and be able to pass as humans, but they are, in fact, a separate species. The same thing goes for HAPs, Sasquatches. They're all different, but each has a place in the world. [ except some human-domineering vampire courts, but that's another can of worms entirely. ]

[ This just leaves Oz with even more questions. He's interested. And he straightens up just a bit in his seat as he asks. ]

So how exactly do you go about cohabitation? [ Because right now his mind is remembering his cell and the experiments that took place in the Initiative. ]

That is a very long story. I run what we call the Sanctuary Network, a global network of people and places where Abnormals are welcome, where we give shelter to those who can't or don't wish to live among humans. For those who do, we offer to help them in any way we can, from aiding them in finding somewhere to stay to dealing with their special abilities. As long as they aren't a threat to anyone, they are allowed to choose how they wish to go about it. We aren't a prison. Nor are we a zoo. We are what our title says: a Sanctuary.

[ He listens carefully to that. Absorbing it. As long as they aren't a threat to anyone. He's quiet for several moments. He knows that she probably gets that sometimes things aren't clean-cut in the world of Supernatural or... Abnormals. ] What if they don't mean or want to be a threat to anyone?

They often come to us before we're even aware of them. The Sanctuaries are large and each one can house hundreds of Abnormals of all types. A lot of humanoid ones come to us willingly and we offer them a place to live, where they can receive help if they need it or a place to feel safe. We call them Sanctuaries for a very good reason.

[ things are never black or white. there are far too many gray areas and she would never assume she knows all of them. she herself occupies one of those gray areas, despite her moral high ground. ]

[ Uncertainty slowly morphs into something akin to respect. It somehow made a great deal of difference to Oz that it was a choice, not a forced sort of rehab. He nods. ]

There are some people here who want everyone to know how to kill us.

[ someday she'll have to tell him about the human-Abnormal colonies that exist in old city. for the moment, she simply takes note of his word choice -- "us" -- and files it away, making no comment as of yet. her expression is one of controlled anger. she does not approve of that at all. ]

No one has the right to take another's life. Not like that. It isn't up to one person to decide who lives and who dies, especially not in a complicated situation like that. [ reminds her of the cabal and her jaw muscles tighten. ] That's why I started the Sanctuary Network, for protection. A Sanctuary for all.

Not exactly, no, but I have opened the clinic to everyone who might need my help. I see no reason to turn anyone away and if the need for something else occurs... I certainly have the experience to help personal difficulties.

[ she actually looks horrified at that idea. ]

So anyone who isn't 100% pure human is automatically something to be feared, hated, and killed on sight? [ her jaw tenses, eyes flashing. this reeks of sciu. ] They're teaching people to kill. That will have to stop.

It's worrisome. [ He's never heard there be options given in the class other than what will immobilize and kill. ]

I'm waiting on the class about evil humans and how to kill them. You know, for the fairness. [ He's only partially kidding about that. ]

It's unacceptable and disgusting is what it is. [ she's serious. she finds things like that absolutely unacceptable. the "us vs them" mentality has absolutely got to stop. ]

Oh absolutely. I don't normally believe in good and evil, black and white, but history has shown there are certainly darker grays to be found and those should be feared just as much or perhaps more than anyone else. The Second World War is a prime example.

[ and she was there for that, actually, so she can say this all from experience. ]
