[Day 237] Relationship Issues Group Therapy mingle
[The relationships group therapy attendees will all get a message telling them to report to The Winery in Sector 2. Sadly for them the alcohol is locked away, but there is an assortment of food and non-alcoholic beverages along the bar for consumption. Many of the tables have been cleared out and the chairs rearranged into a circle with booths along the edges for more intimate therapeutic discussions.

And don't forget the party favors! The wardens have left some helpful games and activity ideas to get them started. There's a bowl full of folded slips of papers with various questions.]

How many people have you slept with? Do you regret any of them? Why?

How many relationships have you been in? Why do you think that is?

What was your longest relationship? Most serious? Shortest? Most casual?

Why did your last relationship end?

What do you look for in another person?

Are you happy?

Who is your ideal mate?

What was the biggest problem/complication in your previous or current relationship?

What do you need out of a relationship? Sexual experience?

How long have you been single between relationships? Why do you think it was so long/short?

What is the best way to break up with someone?

Do you believe in soul mates? Do you think you have or will meet yours?

Would you rather spend your life with one important person or several acquaintances? Why?

Are there any similarities between the people you've been with? If so, what are they?

Do you have trouble making choices? Give examples.

Do you think with your heart, your head, or your genitalia? Are you satisfied with this behavior?

Do you have trouble relating to people? If so, in what way?

[In addition to the questions there are cards with various prompts. One explains the game, I Never. Another suggests people pair off and roleplay they are in a relationship and then deal with various scenarios like what do to if one partner flirts with someone else or comes home late without calling.]

Who should do the dishes?

When is it appropriate to discuss getting blue bands/having sex?

When should you move in together if ever?

What do you do if you suspect the other is keeping secrets?

What do you say if your partner comes home with a haircut you don't like?

How do you respond if you find your partner crying?

How do you decide how to spend your time together?

Your partner's family doesn't like you. What do you do?

One of you is critically hurt. How does the other respond?

Your friends don't like the person you're with. What do you say to them? What do you say to your partner?

One of you wants sexual relations and the other does not. How do you balance your needs?

How do you communicate your desire for a particular sexual desire to your partner?

It is your partner's birthday. How do you prepare?

At a party your partner leaves you to socialize with others. How does this make you feel and how do you respond?

How do you show your affection?

I recycled a lot of this from last time so if someone was in this group twice they can feel free to notice, but assume there are lots of questions and prompts, so they probably didn't see them all.)

[She sways a little, using her light hold on his neck as a pendulum of sorts.] And you're always a gentleman. You never try to push, not even when I sleep in your arms, or wear that kitty suit and volunteer to be handcuffed, or offer to kiss you wherever you want.

[Another little smattering of giggles, then she leans close as if she's telling a secret.] Sometimes I wonder what it would be like if you did push.

Well, then... [Lacus uses her hold around his neck to reel herself closer.] I would tell you with perfect honesty that things haven't been easy for me lately, and that there are no guarantees, but that one thing you should never be scared of is losing me. And then I'd ask what you were worried about. Hypothetically.

[Were this any other day, of course they wouldn't be having this conversation, and more importantly she would be more careful with her words, hesitate before making offers that might seem premature and a little frightening in retrospect. Her words are truthful, she couldn't lie to him even if she tried, and yet things for her are nothing but complicated. She would be happy to make him happy, and of course being closer to Sougo would make her happy too. In her current state of mind, that's all that matters -- which is incredibly naive.]

No wonder it bothered you to see me with Tyki. [Her smile softens and she presses her forehead to his, trying to be comforting.] I'm sorry. I didn't realize -- or, if I did, I was too afraid to let myself believe it. My heart tells me to do what might make us both very happy, and yet I've been so off-balance these last weeks I don't know whether to trust myself. I wouldn't want to lose you, either, or hurt you. Not ever.

I suppose we do. [It's a different experience for Lacus to feel a lack of confidence in herself. Still, in this situation, perhaps it's better, in a way.]

[She kisses his mouth again, though in a manner far different than a moment ago. No playful casualness, instead soft and lingering, intimate. Not a "real" kiss, but something that hints at one.]

It means that I hope you find some more confidence. [Which she knows will take time, but time is what she needs. Time to put Neil to rest and give herself permission to move on, knowing Kira would want that for her. Time to know she's forgiven herself for Tyki.]

Mm. [She's not agreeing, rather acknowledging his point of view.] I suppose the theory is that talking will help you to feel better. That doesn't work for everyone, however.

If there were a way for you to not dislike yourself, would you do it? [Sometimes, she wonders if Sougo almost prefers to feel badly, so he'll have someone to blame for the things he's lost rather than having to accept that life can be unfair for no reason at all. She can see how it would be easier to blame yourself -- that was what paralyzed Kira for so long.]

That question, though, made him feel a little weird. Were there people who wouldn't want that? He had to wonder.]

Definitely. It's no fun hating yourself. I want to see whatever it is you and my sister do. It would probably make me a better person, too.

[Lacus hugs his arm since she quite likes who he is. She'd never discourage him from trying to improve himself, however, so there won't be any argument that he needn't.]

Usually, I rely on my faith that things will work out how they're meant to. Although there are times that I regret my actions. I blame myself for my father's death and the death of the woman who was manipulated into impersonating me, for hurting Kira, and for hurting you. But I can't change those things, I can only hope to learn from it and do better from now on.

Mm. [The things she was saying were things he hoped he can do some day, hopefully sooner than later. He knew that with his stubborness, however, it would probably take a lot longer than he would want.]

That's what I want. I want to be able to live with everything that has happened in my life, and not let it drag me down anymore. [A headtilt and a low sigh as he considers things the way they are right now.] It's hard. It always seems like every other person my age has parents, family, friends, and a good life. I know everyone's got their own problems, but I can't help but to feel that everyone else has it easier. I hate when people bitch to me about their problems, and all I can think is that I wish their problems were my own. "Oh, your mom is a bitch? I don't feel sorry for you, because I don't have one, so fuck you!" Things like that are what I want to say.

I don't think those feelings are so out of the ordinary. Resenting people for having what you don't sounds very normal to me. [In fact, some would argue it was the cause of the wars in her world and certainly the foundation for the anti-Coordinator terrorist group, Blue Cosmos. Some of her dearest, most wonderful friends back home carry such bitterness about aspects their lives.] And it doesn't make you a bad person.

If you want to be different, then you can find a way. I know you will, and I'll help you do it.
