[Day 234] [Voice|Open|Backdated to Pre-Morning Announcement]
[So it's just after four in the morning and a certain someone has been skipping sleep for a few days now, working on different projects. It's harder to get things to work when you don't have that much in materials to build with, but Richie keeps at it. Even if he can't build, he can at least design. It's not like the days of little distraction give him less time to come up with ideas for new inventions. He just finished drawing the schematics for a solar-powered motorbike.

He takes another sip of his coffee only to realize it's chilled and grimace at the cold. And then another idea hits him and it's awesome but he doesn't have anyone to tell just how awesome it is. So he makes a call, which he completely thinks is privated to Zatanna, but he's running on two hours of sleep in the last three days, so.]

Yo, Zee...what do you think about a solar powered motorbike with--get this. A self-regulating drink holder! It would be amazing right? It would go great with the helmet with the built-in voice-command wifi and satellite radio. I'd just need to design to add-in an sensor for controlling the temperatures between coffee, iced tea, and warm milk.

[His tone is a bit manic, but energetic. He's past the point of fatigue to the kind of crazed euphoria that is a sign of a bad crash to come.]

[See Zee, he knew you would be interested!] Completely eco-friendly. Battery and solar-powered. Mainly solar, but hey, not every day is cloud-free and you should be able to ride motorcycles in the rain if you want. Where would awesome action movies be without those rainy motorcycle ride scenes?

But the self-regulating cup holders. Now there's the genius. But the helmet would have to have a hole for the straw.

[Much to Richie's delight, no doubt, she almost started listening. Then she realized how ridiculous this whole thing was, and what time it was, and that she only had a few hours left of precious sleep before Robin Jr. needed to go out for his morning walk.]

Right, right. Something about clouds and cup holders.

Can I go back to sleep now? For that matter, could you go to sleep, before you short-circuit or something?

[She's already up and grabbing the closest thing to normal clothes in her drawer as she can. Not that Richie (or anyone else who might see the conversation) can see, because she turned the camera away, but the distinct sound of someone getting dressed in the background can be heard.]

Wait--Zee, why wouldn't I--[And she cut him off. How many times is she going to hang up on him tonight?

But now the bigger concern is that Richie's house is a mess and he needs to clean it up so that it looks less like the wreck it's become over the last week or so. He tries to put random parts in boxes and rinse off the dishes in his sink--hey he cooked at least right?--before putting his dirty clothes in the closet so she won't see them. Oh...maybe he needs to build a robot to do his laundry for him...]

[He's actually standing in the middle of the living room contemplating whether or not he would need to give his laundry robot elbow so it could fold clothes when the door knocking comes. He ends up dropping the box of parts he had right on his foot.

There's a shout of pain and he's hopping around. That is going to bruise. He limps to the door and opens it up.

Because maybe there is something wrong. Maybe he is letting himself go too far. Zee wouldn't be this worried if it wasn't serious, but she doesn't understand. She can't.]

Have you ever felt like every question, every answer, every thought that could ever exist is just within your reach? If you just keep reaching and pushing and thinking, then the entire universe would just open up and give you all of its secrets?

Can't say that I have.

But what I can tell you is that no, Red Bull doesn't actually give you wings, and that there are people who will literally pick you up and carry you to a place of rest if you go too long without taking a break.

[Because guess who also went through something similar not too long ago herself? Granted, she remembered to eat and at least power nap, and she wasn't calling her friends at 4am, but there was a reason Zatanna felt this whole situation a little too close to home.]

I still have one of my dreamcatchers back from my punishment day. You can borrow it for tonight, if you want. It might help.

Should I mention I've actually thought about what changes would need to be done to make it so Red Bull could do that? [He brings up a hand to run through his hair.] These thoughts, ideas, I get them all the time. It's like looking out at the world and only seeing how you can dismantle it and see how everything ticks just so you can put it back together better.

Usually I can focus, keep myself grounded in the here and now, you know? But every once in awhile--I get a little caught up in it. I can't sleep because there's too much up here [He taps his temple.] that I see could do so much if I could just make it happen.

The insomnia? Yeah, it happens sometimes. Like I said, usually I keep it under control. I had school, projects, protecting Dakota, lots of things going on. I didn't have so much time on my hands. [He snorts.] But V once threatened to rig our shock vox's to shock me anytime I tried to call him after midnight. He would let me run him in circles during the day, but that guy loves his sleep.
