[ Although the other day was far from as traumatic as the last inmate influx, it left Reid a little pensive. Made him think of extreme aggressors, of 50 000 chess games, of expecting different outcomes in a game that would only end with check mate, but unlike a few years ago this is not a depressive thought. Instead, it makes him crave interaction and so he hits up the network. ]

Hey, guys. I was wondering... there's quite a few of us here that know how to play chess. How would you feel about an impromptu tournament? Nothing fancy, just... I don't know, anyone who's interested could drop by the library and we'll set up a few games. Bring a board, if you got one.

[ A bit of an awkward smile and then he cuts the feed. ]

(( OOC: MINGLE-STYLE! Email notifs are off, so thread to your hearts content! Reid will have a video response thread here and an action response thread here for your Reid-y needs! ))

A game? Of course, that should have been obvious. They are so important to him. Thank you. That's very helpful.

"Important" doesn't even begin to cover it.

[Calliope looks down at their chess match.]

To you too?

Of course!

But for all their importance to us, we regard games very differently. I love them because they're fun and a chance for healthy competition. He... sees them as a way of proving his dominance.

[She frowns. That might not be the best wording, but it's all she could come up with in a pinch.]

I think there were those in my family who had similar opposing ideas about games.

That must make it hard for him to lose.

Oh, of course. He always pitches a fit.

[She pauses, thoughtfully.] Then again, he also pitched a fit when he won.

I think he just doesn't know what to do with himself, sometimes. [Or, more likely, he just likes pissing Calliope off at every opportunity.]

[Considering that. It certainly sounded like the man she'd come to know.] Maybe he doesn't know what really makes him happy.

[Despite her best efforts not to, Calliope frowns.]

Maybe.

I have a feeling I know what would make him very happy, but... you don't want to hear about that.

[Hard to miss that frown.] I don't? You're so sure? [It is less that she doesn't believe and more that she does that makes her hesitant.]
