[Day 232] [Action|Open]
[Klara is in the library, where she spends hours of each day. She loves to read and the more educational books provide a lot of information she had not been able to receive back home. Like medical books. Today she's having trouble with the fact many of the books she's looking for are on the top shelves or near enough to them. She's not very tall, even for her "age," and the stepstool she found wasn't still left her two shelves short of her target. She stood on her tiptoes and took a look around, trying to see if anyone else was around. When she thinks the coast is clear, she jumps up, using a bit of extra force to get herself up to the book she wanted, only the force used put too much pressure on the books, shoving many of them through the shelves and off into the aisle on the other side.

After the mess she tried to clean up in the library, Klara decided maybe it would be better to spend time outside instead. She brought a large box full of odds and ends--bells, wire, wooden carvings of suns and planets, a bag of sea shells, and small thin metal pipes--and sat outside under a tree in Sector 0. It was to the side of one of the food stands which gave her a good view of most of the doors to the other sectors. She could people watch and work on her wind chimes at the same time. If she breathed in too deeply she could smell everyone nearby and it made her tense and wanting, but she kept herself sitting right there the grass. If she was going to try and work through her urges, the only way she could was by making herself be around people and get used to it...right?

Hopefully.]

{OOC: Feel free to almost get hit on the head by books in the library or notice the girl making home made wind chimes in Sector 0. She's a little hungry, but will be trying not to bite anyone who comes by.}

[Garcia's not in the finest mood, but nothing cheers her up like visiting with other people, especially when they're little cuties! She's laden with bags from various stores, but places them down as she walks up to Klara and her craft time.]

That looks pretty cool. Whatcha making?

[Oh, it's...the nice woman from the network. The one who helped her talk through things when she was being so irrational. She gives a small, awkward smile to her. Klara feels somewhat embarrassed by how immature she was that day, but she was kind to her about it, so she thinks it's better not to apologize. What if she doesn't remember?]

Uh. Wind chimes. There isn't a lot of wind, but... [She likes them. The cloudy weather just made her feel more nostalgic for the ones she made back home.]

Hey, I begrudge no one their awesome decorations. There's no spinning table in my apartment, but does that keep me from hanging a disco ball? No, ma'am.

[Garcia takes a seat and looks over the crafty items.] Besides, they're adorable even if they only make noise when you jingle 'em on purpose.

[She didn't expect her to sit down like that. What should she do? Does the lady have enough shade from the tree? Should Klara move over? She is currently finishing the last touches on a wind chime with thin small pipes dangling by fishing wire. She's currently tying off the thin strip of wood to act as the windcatcher.]

...They are cute. [It's easier to respond to the simple statements than try to come up with anything more to say on her own. At least it's a topic she enjoys.] They all sound different, too. Each one has a special ring.

[Garcia tends to invite herself into conversations, but she doesn't have expectations or anything. Really, all she wants to do is maybe help a little girl who seems pretty sad.]

Yeah? That's pretty darn cool, if you ask me. Where'd you learn to make these?

[The tips of her ears flush red and Klara brushes her hair behind her ear--an embarrassed habit.]

I read a book and the main character made her own windchimes, so I decided to try it. It looks harder than it is--unless you have to drill the holes. I've never done that. It doesn't take much to put string on them.

[ Hei quietly reached up and over Klara's head, grabbing the book she had (by his estimate) been reaching for. ]

Was this the book you wanted?

[ he smiled kindly from behind her, having walked in near silence from the stack once removed. Ah, but if she noticed him first, he will still reach for the book of her desire. He'll just stand there quietly until she responds. ]

[A gasp of surprise locks up in her throat when she comes up behind her, but Klara only stiffens slightly before reaching out to take the book from him.]

Yes, it was. Thank you.

[She had been focused enough on trying to get the book that she had not even noticed him coming. It made her feel anxious how easily she could forget everything else and focus on what she was doing it. It was dangerous for everyone else. She needs to pay more attention.]

Sorry for bothering you. I'll get a bigger ladder next time.

[ he smiled kindly, his version of a laugh as he nodded, peeking behind the bookshelf at the mess on the other side. ]

The chairs are also quite handy, if you can move them. It also makes it more comfortable, if you're just browsing.

[ he turned back towards her ]

You weren't injured at all, were you? [ books are easy to clean-up (although some might protest), but wounds are a little harder. Especially when the first aid kit was who knows where. ]

[Her cheeks flush a bit in embarrassment because she heard the pile of books hit the ground and knows it's a mess. She could have used a chair, but chairs are not for standing in. It's immature and shows bad manners. Her mother never would have allowed that kind of behavior in her home.]

I'm fine. All of the books fell the other way. [She moves to get down from the ladder.] No one was over there...right? [She didn't hear anyone, but maybe she had hit someone without realizing it.]

[ he held the ladder for her, just out of habit. ]

No one noticed. And once it's picked up, no one will know an accident had happened.

[She's in prison for murder not bad manners. Klara doesn't sigh at the knowledge she didn't hurt anyone, but it's a near thing.]

Thank you. [For being willing to be her accomplice in covering up her own clumsiness.] I guess...it's like the tree in the forest question.

[ over the past few days, being around people with a living pulse can be sometimes difficult. the library is a source of distraction and a bit of comfort; writing and reading are two things elena is driven to do, especially during a time like this. (it's not going to make her situation better by any means, but she turns to what she knows to cope.)

she spots klara reading and can't help but stop and offer the girl a small smile. (it reminds her of herself.)
] You like to read?

ooc: elena's been turned a vampire fyi! she has a heartbeat but if klara would be able to tell elena's not human or w/e, i'd be okay with that. elena wouldn't be able to tell what klara is unless she doesn't have a heartbeat but elena would have to listen not to hear it ofc.

[Klara looks up at the voice and gives a tentative smile in return. Elena has been nice so far and she doesn't want to be rude. Reading is a comfort for her as well and she concentrates better when she focuses. It's not always a good thing--like earlier when Li came up behind her--but she is a creature of habit and will take more time to work herself out of it.]

Yes. [Oh wait. That wasn't how she should have greeted her.] I mean...hello. And yes. Reading is a good way to pass the time and there are always new books here.

{OOC: Klara won't be able to tell since Elena has a heartbeat. She can't smell the difference yet. Klara has one too since vampires in her world aren't undead.}

[ elena smiles at that. it's true, and it's something she does appreciate about this place too. she takes a step forward, about to offer a bit more, ask what klara likes to read when she spots the contents of the current book she's reading.

if her dad hadn't been a physician, she probably wouldn't be able to identify the edition on-sight. her brow shoots up. she's both curious and skeptical.

No, it's a great book. [ it doesn't entirely surprise her. she used to strive to read above her level and about anything and everything too - if that's what klara is doing. she's sits, not next to klara, but some space away. ] It's just not a topic most people would expect someone young to read.

Why are you reading a medical book, Klara?

[The grass may be damp, but Klara doesn't mind sitting in it anyway. She likes the feel of nature. She looks up when the woman comes closer, but she's not familiar with her so she isn't sure how to react. She looks down at the work-in-progress in her lap, a wooden plank with holes in it with thin fishing line draped down to sea shells she was attaching.]
