day 231 | video; | ota
[ helen appears on the feed looking composed as usual. she's not yet taking her duty shift at the clinic, so she's actually sitting at her table in her apartment. regardless, she's sitting up straight as usual. ]

As it seems we're to be inundated with new arrivals and familiar and unfamiliar faces, I'd like to remind everyone that the clinic is still operational. We're more than willing to see anyone who may need our help. Don't let anything keep you away if you'd like to stop by.

In the meantime, I'd like to pose a question I find myself curious about. I realize it seems we have little need for differing languages, but I'm curious to know which ones other people know. I'm fluent in a great many of Earth's languages, current as of the year 2011, both regularly used ones and ones that are considered "dead." No real reason for asking. Consider it the scholar in me who's truly curious.

[ she pauses for a moment, obviously on the verge of saying something else before she finally decides to continue. ]

Nikola, if you see this, answer. I'd rather not have you wandering around terrorizing everyone. [ she fully expects him to snap at her for this... if her instincts aren't correct and for once, she hopes they aren't. ]

Consider yourself quite fortunate. [ it means he saves blatantly making passes for helen and helen alone. not that she's ever expected otherwise. her smile is wry, though. she loves nikola as a very close friend and if her instincts are correct, she's about to be very disappointed. ]

Dr. Helen Magnus. It's a pleasure. Have you been a resident here for a while?

A while. I'm afraid the majority of my time has been spent in self-study, however. This world is a little more advanced then I'm used to.

[ which is, perhaps, why she hadn't minded Tesla too much. He'd reminded her a little bit of Howard Stark. And that was a womanizer, so long as the woman let him be one. ]

Do you mind if I ask what world you're from? And time period, if Earth is your answer.

Of course I don't mind. The year was 1946 to be exact, before I arrived here. It's rather daunting, witnessing first hand how much will change with the years.

Ah. In that case, I can understand. You seem to be handling the change well.

[ she offers a gentle, reassuring smile, even as she knows her next statement will bring up more questions. ] I do recall that year and just how different everything must be for you.

I'm afraid I would hardly be a credit to myself or my country if I didn't. My grandmother taught me to stand proud, even in uncertainty.

[ and if her back straightens slightly, it's in no way because of that following question. It's just an unconscious habit whenever said grandmother is mentioned. ]

And yes, it would appear that most individuals here seem to be from a later time then my own. Am I to assume you haven't met with similar difficulties?

[ it's all right. if there's one thing helen understands, it's propriety. ]

Unfortunately, no. My current time period is 2011, so I'm a bit more accustomed to the way things work. However, foregoing the long story that is my lifespan, I will say that had I arrived from the year you hail from, I doubt I would be taking this quite as well.

[ she remembers that war, recalls very vividly being in normandy on what they're now calling d-day, and the distance that war caused between herself and james. had she arrived after all that, she likely wouldn't have been in a good place herself. ]

[ She could understand. War did things, shaped you, changed who you were, but Peggy had found freedom in the movement. Her own special brand of independence. Some good had come from the war and with a smile of encouragement, she shook her head slightly ]

You may find yourself surprised. It's adversity after all, that makes a woman what she is. Surely you've had your fair share in the year 2011?

[ helen gives an amused smile at that. ]

Spoken like a true woman of the age. Absolutely, I have, but I suppose overcoming adversity is part of the job, isn't it?

It does seem to be a requirement, if we wish to be taken seriously, but perhaps we could discuss things more fully in person? I've always found these devices to be rather lacking in my limited experience.

[ although a welcome relief when it's all you have. ]

Absolutely. You're more than welcome to drop by the clinic anytime you'd like, or I could meet you somewhere for tea.

Spoken like a true English woman. I would be happy to call on you for tea. Shall two four however many days hence suffice?
