day 231 | video; | ota
[ helen appears on the feed looking composed as usual. she's not yet taking her duty shift at the clinic, so she's actually sitting at her table in her apartment. regardless, she's sitting up straight as usual. ]

As it seems we're to be inundated with new arrivals and familiar and unfamiliar faces, I'd like to remind everyone that the clinic is still operational. We're more than willing to see anyone who may need our help. Don't let anything keep you away if you'd like to stop by.

In the meantime, I'd like to pose a question I find myself curious about. I realize it seems we have little need for differing languages, but I'm curious to know which ones other people know. I'm fluent in a great many of Earth's languages, current as of the year 2011, both regularly used ones and ones that are considered "dead." No real reason for asking. Consider it the scholar in me who's truly curious.

[ she pauses for a moment, obviously on the verge of saying something else before she finally decides to continue. ]

Nikola, if you see this, answer. I'd rather not have you wandering around terrorizing everyone. [ she fully expects him to snap at her for this... if her instincts aren't correct and for once, she hopes they aren't. ]

Of course.

I hope I'm not inconveniencing you. It's a bit difficult to get one's bearing.

Not at all. I'll answer any questions I can. I remember well what it's like to be new here. It can be overwhelming at best.

I appreciate that. I'm sure I'm not the only one searching for answers.

From what I can see, the majority of the individuals using the communications network here are being held prisoner-- do you know by whose authority we stand accused?

If it makes you feel any better, I threatened to blow the place up to get my answers.

[ it's said in good humor, though she did actually do that. ]

Two artificial intelligences called the "wardens" as far as I can tell. There's been some speculation as to who or what stands behind them, but I've not yet seen any evidence that such a person or thing exists. Whoever is in charge here has an almost intimate knowledge of what we've done in our lives, but they don't have the authority or capability of understanding extenuating circumstances.

I see. I take it they're not open to hearing appeals?

Not that I've known. They occasionally take requests at the Kiosk in Sector 0, but as far as I've heard, they're avoiding us today. Likely because of the large influx of inmates for the day.

For the day?

[Anyone else would sound desperately hopeful, but she makes a habit of keeping her feelings close.]

However long it lasts. I'm hoping tomorrow won't see the massive influx that today has. Whether or not we all end up staying... I've no way of knowing.

[ the assumption is that the wardens will keep everyone, but she's not going to knock this woman's hope down so quickly. ]

I see.

Are inmates released when these wardens judge them to be rehabilitated?

I'm not certain. I've yet to know of anyone who has been, but again... I've only been here for a short period of time. You may find the answer yourself in your time here.

I'm hopeful that my time will be brief. If I'm unable to effect an escape myself, my disappearance will not go unnoticed.

I am certain those who notice your disappearance will do everything in their power to find you. Try not to worry too much. You are in good company for as long as you're here.
