[ helen appears on the feed looking composed as usual. she's not yet taking her duty shift at the clinic, so she's actually sitting at her table in her apartment. regardless, she's sitting up straight as usual. ]

As it seems we're to be inundated with new arrivals and familiar and unfamiliar faces, I'd like to remind everyone that the clinic is still operational. We're more than willing to see anyone who may need our help. Don't let anything keep you away if you'd like to stop by.

In the meantime, I'd like to pose a question I find myself curious about. I realize it seems we have little need for differing languages, but I'm curious to know which ones other people know. I'm fluent in a great many of Earth's languages, current as of the year 2011, both regularly used ones and ones that are considered "dead." No real reason for asking. Consider it the scholar in me who's truly curious.

[ she pauses for a moment, obviously on the verge of saying something else before she finally decides to continue. ]

Nikola, if you see this, answer. I'd rather not have you wandering around terrorizing everyone. [ she fully expects him to snap at her for this... if her instincts aren't correct and for once, she hopes they aren't. ]

[ no, helen. please. don't be. ]

The knowledge was not learned. It was assimilated.

I'm familiar with the term, but not the context.

[ she's not sure what seven means by "assimilated" in this way. is she a different species or does she simply operate and live under a different set of rules? ]

...that is question perhaps best answered by Captain Picard.

[ seven follows conversations. she's aware of the association between the captain and the doctor, whatever the context of their relationship might be. perhaps he should be the one to explain the borg in this instance. after all, being borg is what she and the captain have in common. she's not the only ex-drone in marinanova. ]

Of course.

[ she does not understand it in this context at all, but she'll respect this woman's calm request and refrain from pushing farther. it's making her even more curious about this man she's grown so fond of. ]

Perhaps sometime you and I could practice a few human languages, if you would be willing?

[ it's not that seven is unwilling to answer, more that she has learned to respect the boundaries of others. and she has nothing but the utmost respect for captain picard, even if he's not the captain who rescued her from the borg.

she nods, to show that yes, she is willing, before approaching another topic-- ]
If I may inquire, what is your exact area of medical expertise?

[ it's something and it will prevent helen from pushing her for answers. ]

That might also be far too broad a question to answer. I have experience with everything from healing small abrasions to extensive neurological surgery. [ her eyes narrow slightly, as though calculating what might make someone ask that. ] Is there something I can help you with?

Back on Voyager, both my biological and cybernetic systems were closely monitored. Commander Data is able to aptly monitor the latter; as for the former...

I don't have all of the equipment I would at the Sanctuary, but I can certainly monitor your biological systems, if you'd like. Would you be comfortable coming to see me sometime in the next few days so I can ask you a few questions to see where to start?

I would. I will provide you with details of my cybernetic components and how they work in conjunction with my biological systems.

Whenever you are comfortable stopping by, I would be happy to start.

[ she'll have to start a file, ask seven if she would prefer this to end up just being between the two of them or if martha might be able to assist. ]
