day 230 [ voice | action | filtered & open ]
[ filtered to investigative team ]

Greetings. For those with whom I have not spoken directly, my name is Data. In the interest of putting this announcement in the proper context, it seems wisest that I begin by explaining that I am an android. As such, I possess the ability to accurately record and recall any information to which I am exposed. Some of you may be aware that, during our time in Squall Asylum, we made use of this in order to record information in the absence of any other means by which to do so.

Though we have since returned to MarinaNova, I have agreed to continue doing so in order to gradually compile an organized database of our working knowledge that we can search, compare, reference, and update. While I will still be taking reports personally, I will also be constructing a computer system with which I am capable of interfacing to store and to provide access to these files to all team members for their own investigative research purposes. This will take some time with the materials which are available to us, but I believe it is possible. This would prevent any loss of information were I to become lost, or damaged.

If anyone has any input, suggestions, or questions regarding this project, or would be interested in assisting, I would be most welcoming of any cooperation.

I hope that you do not mind my contacting you directly. It was suggested by Doctor Reid that I initiate a conversation with you, specifically regarding what he described as your attempts to compile an encyclopedia of available knowledge on the facility. He believes that we may benefit from coordinating our efforts and possibly integrating all of our information into a single database with various levels of access as would apply to that which is restricted to the Investigative Team, and that which is available for public perusal. I would be happy to work cooperatively on this endeavor, if you wish.

[ open in dome / potential trekpartment action ]

[ After making the post, Data busies himself looking into the technology and components which are available and gauging their potential usefulness. He's built devices out of objects far less advanced, but he believes he may still have to request some items from the wardens. Somehow, he has his doubts about how well that will go. So the more he can manage to do with what they have available to them, the better.

At the same time, there is another matter on his mind - Geordi has had a couple of days to become accustomed to his surroundings and seems to be adjusting well. Probably a good time to properly introduce Annika in context of their relationship, at the next point they're all together. Ah. Anxiety. Still a curious sensation. ]

[ Even Data's many processors and sub-processors need a few moments to figure out what to do with that. ]

Greetings, Penelope. I am pleased to meet you as well, and I would be pleased to accept any assistance which you would be willing to offer.

[ Okay. Politeness satisfied, he can move to concerned. ]

However, I must admit that I feel obligated to inquire, are you feeling well? Please do not misunderstand; I do not intend to be insulting, but am inquiring out of concern. I do not typically find that I elicit such a response in others.

[She laughs, and relaxes a little.] I feel great. Just the amount of drugs inherent in three triple-shot lattes flowing through my veins, my friend. That and excitement about meeting you. I'm kind of a fan. [She's not about to mention the TV show thing, but certainly Data has enough of a rep here in the dome that it passes.]

[ Huh. ] Caffeine can indeed be a potent stimulant. However, I was unaware that I had fans.

Modest too, huh? That's kind of adorable, I hope you don't mind my saying.

But yeah, sure! How could you not have fans? You're pretty amazing by any standard.

I do not mind.

[ Though he's clearly still a bit uncertain of how to take this. ]

In my own reality, I have been the subject of a number of papers and receive frequent attention from those involved in advancing the field of cybernetics and artificial intelligence. I am not certain that would entirely qualify as having "fans." But - thank you.

You're totally welcome. And I think that's like the definition of a fan, darling. But anyway.

So DF-wise, what's coming down the pipe? I'd love to help with whatever. I haven't been able to crack much of the Wardens' coding except that one time, but I've been keeping at it anyway.

Many of them are more likely to admire me for what I represent to their scientific fields as an achievement of mechanics and programming, as opposed to my accomplishments as an individual. I believe the term "fan," at its root, implies a more personified appreciation of the object of one's interest.

[ Wait. ]

"Down the pipe?" [ A moment for him to absorb the colloquialism... ] At present, my work will be focused on establishing the computer system and receiving reports. May I inquire, to which occasion to you refer?

[Oh God could you be any cuter?! No, no you could not.]

Well, the first time the Sector Six inmates got out and were buzzing and/or rolling around, I hacked into the system to find out what the heck they were and what we could do about them. I only got into a couple of their files before they caught my hacker-self red-handed and tossed me out.

[ That. Is interesting. ]

Intriguing. I would be most interested in hearing more about your experiences with their systems, and the methods by which you have managed to circumvent their security. Naturally, I am hesitant to discuss specifics on their network, regardless of filtering.
