✧Day 229✧[VIDEO]✧
[Zatanna appears...upside-down. Somewhat. She's laying on her bed in her room, hair hanging down over the edge, eyes glancing far upward so they can meet with the communicator screen. Her skin is a bit darker than usual, with noticeable patches of pink on her nose, cheeks, and shoulders.]

[A softly snoring puppy rests at her feet. Otherwise, the only sound in the room is the air conditioner blasting from her window.]

I think they lied about the temperature. No way this is only ninety degrees. Either the Wardens are trying to bake us, or...actually, no, that's all I've got.

Wake me when the weather's no longer trying to kill us.

Unless you have ice cream. Then we'll talk.

[Given the context of the conversation, and the joking manner behind it, she didn't even bat an eyelash at the sound of "experience". Assuming that was him pretending.]

To be fair, it's hard to buy something when you don't actually have any money.

I remember the first time I went to a restaurant here. We basically dine and ditched, except it was all free anyway.

Yeah? I don't think I'm ever going to get used to everything being free. [Mainly because he feels like it's encouraging his inner kleptomaniac.] Though I've gotta admit, it makes getting food a lot easier.

That's what I thought at first, too. Give it time. Assuming we don't all manage to magically make parole before then.

[People leave. She still hasn't figured out how or why, but she knows it's possible.]

Aren't all sentences for life? [He tilts his head at her slightly, almost forgetting his current spoonful of ice cream.] How the crap - er, crab do people get out of here?

If I knew that, I wouldn't still be here right now.

And they say life sentence, but a lot've people have left since I arrived...including Robin.

Oh. [He'd honestly been avoiding the topic of Robin, because it was pretty obvious how close they'd been...]

Y'all've started to look into that, right? I knew there was a lot they weren't telling us about this place, but I wouldn't have guessed that people just... left.

Of course I've been looking into it. Been at the Library almost every day since he left.

I never used to study this hard for school.

Half of the stuff they teach you's useless, anyhow. I'm still not sure how I managed to graduate. [Mainly because Chloe found out and went all Watchtower on his sorry butt...]

They don't have a history section here, right? Were you looking up computer-science geek stuff?

Not exactly.

Myths, mostly, and a few other old fairy tales. You'd be surprised how many hints of spells can be found in the stories.

You're right - I am pretty surprised. [He knows he's not as booksmart as some of the other League members, but to think that there'd be magic hidden in fairy tales? That blew his mind.]

So it's like, you pick up a fairy tale and bam, there's a hint for something you could cast later? Or do the spells in those actually work?

A little of both.

Some stories are more useful than others. I think I found one that actually does work on its own. The rest are bits and pieces I've been piecing together since.

Cool. Are there any other witches here? Or uh, magicians? I forget what you call yourself, but y'all should compare notes.

I know Kitty and I've been doing that for phasing.

Homo magi, if you please.

[Actually, no, she doesn't really care what you call her, as long as it's not meant as an insult.]

And, yeah, I know a few other magic users. We've traded off a few spells here and there.

[He makes a mental note of it!]

Must've been pretty interesting. I've got no magic whatsoever, but just thinking about that kind of spell trading? That sounds pretty darn fantastic.

[Bart mimics some flashy handwaving motion:] Alakazam! Or well, mazakala! Something like that, right?

Actually, I tend to prefer arbadacarba--

[She holds out one hand, and a tophat suddenly appears. Letting it roll up her arm a little, she smoothly twirls it right onto her head in one clean movement.]

--myself.

[And smirks.]

[Cue the applause! The very soft applause since they're still technically in the library.]

I've gotta say, I'm impressed. When'd you say your next performance was?

Whenever you like.

Give me half a day's notice, and I'm sure I could put together a little something for you. If you want.
