[day 228] action - bean crushers coffeeshop;
[So what do you do when you think you’ve woken up in an underwater prison, surrounded by people from a multitude of other universes with things like magic and powers? You try and snap yourself out of a psychotic state, for starters. Secondly, you start trying to figure out how possible it is to give yourself an MRI. Run a few tests because clearly something’s wrong here.

Tumor, brain, somewhere. Coma? Bad dream.

Stress, breakdown. Total psychosis?

Can't feel a fever. Hallucinogenic? Would've remembered the brownies.

So while attempting to diagnose his own nonexistent mental issues Alex Karev will just be taking up roots in the coffee shop; tending to a cup of plain black with a side dose of pacing and eye-rubbing. He’s mentally unstable and hallucinating, doing a total Izzie only worse. Just freakin’ amazing. He’ll be offering any and all passerby a sidelong glance that may or may not be attempting to determine just how real they are. And possibly acting a little like a recluse in fear of giving this mental lapse a little more fuel to burn on.]

[ It was perhaps a bit early, by usual standards, but she was born and bred in the army. Morning always started at 5 am and after a good, brisk warm-up and exercise, the real work began. Unfortunately for Alex, that meant Peggy was sitting at a table with a carafe of coffee, cream, sugar and sipping from a steaming cup as she steadily flipped pages in a book.

She was diligent, if nothing else, about learning all she could about this place and the strange things she discovered. Sadly, even Peggy can be startled and one knock of her hand sends the cream toppling right into the sugar bowl making a loud ding before she hurriedly tried to clean it up. ]

[It's the noise that catches his attention, a glance up from a table on the diagonal. He regards her for a moment, almost says nothing (why feed the insanity further) but he ends up murmuring something offhand.

He must be on his fourth coffee by now, at any rate.]

Retro look, huh. Not a lot of broads can pull it off, congrats.

[ she looked distracted as she mopped up the milk with a napkin, careful to use only the tips of her fingers. ]

I beg your pardon? I'm afraid that's not a term I'm familiar with.

[ She placed the soiled napkin on a used plate and finally looked at Alex, observing him with mild interest. She had certainly never seen him before, but there were many she had never met. It was an ongoing work in progress. ]

Broad. You know, woman, girl... chick? [He makes a hand gesture, purposely being an asshole.]

[ she sipped at her tea then, completely unfazed before setting it back down with barely a clink on the table. ]

I believe the term you are looking for is lady. And no, I'm afraid I'm a bit less familiar with retro. [ she lifted a brow then, challenging. ] Perhaps you would like to enlighten me on that particular subject?

Not just looking the part but acting it too? Nice.

Retro, old school... Like those dolled up twenties pin up girls, you'd fit right in.

[ she half covered a smile with a well placed napkin to her lip, brushing away a stray drop of tea. ]

I believe you're thinking more of the 1940's. The twenty's were a bit less demure, I believe.

[ it was that kind of era ]

Twenties, forties, all the same stuff.

I believe my mother would state the opposite. They were enjoying the end to a war, not the start of one.

[ she shifted, leaning in towards Alex's table as she scrutinized him carefully. ]

Please do pardon the question, but do you have something against that era?

No? Like I said, retro's hot. At least until you bring ol' granny of a mother up.

[ her smile flashed at that ]

Then my grandmother would say that is a job well done. I am Peggy Carter and is it safe to assume that you have just newly arrived?

[ she raised an eyebrow but only because she was certain she hadn't seen his face before. But then again, not everyone made free use of the comm devices. ]

Hn? Yeah, I guess. ["Arrival". He just shrugs.]

Alex Karev.

[ Don't worry. He'll eventually get used to it, however unfortunate that may be. ]

Mr. Karev... [ she tasted the name and then nodded in satisfaction ]

Yes, well. I suppose if you have any questions, you'll ask. If not, I do hope you enjoy your coffee. At least the weather today is fair. [ unlike a few days ago when it snowed. ]

Unless you've got a phone number to give me, not really. [He's not quite at the point of acceptance towards the situation that he's ready to think up and seek out answers about it. That'll come tomorrow-onwards, when he doesn't wake from the bad dream and has to Deal.]

[ she just smoothly answered, not paying any mind to the slightly on edge quip to her suggestion. ]

I'm afraid phone numbers are a thing of the past. Your device... [ and she tapped her own ] has a directory.

[ but then she stood, gathering up her things and picking up her tray of spilled milk and tea. ]

I do wish you the best, Mr. Karev. [ he seemed like a man who could use some. ]

[He wasn't being too literal, but alright.

He can admire her while she stands, instead.]
You too, pin-up Sally.

[ her voice is tight as she nodded ]

The name is Peggy, in case you've forgotten. Good day.

[ and she'll just move off with her things. He's an interesting man, but something about him reminded her of Howard. She just wasn't sure if he knew how to respect his boundaries just yet. She would prefer not to test them. ]
