[Voice// Video | Open!]
[The feed begins as voice, a man’s concerned but controlled voice making an official-sounding request:] Enterprise, come in. This Lieutenant Commander Geo--

[A brief moment of silence as the feed switches to video, and it becomes obvious why Geordi is having trouble working the device. His eyes, without iris or pupil, clearly mark him as blind.] Any Federation vessel? [A pause.] Computer? Computer, respond.

[He sighs, but doesn’t look surprised. A slight scoff, as if he’s somehow amused while also being irritated.] Figures. How do I switch frequencies on this thing? They could’ve at least left me with my combadge. But alright, let’s try... [He fiddles with the comm buttons and the feed swaps back to voice.]

Hello? Does anyone copy? I could use a little help here, and I’m getting used to the idea of not being picky.

((OOC: Action open to anyone who wants to find a blind man meandering around the beach!))

[ seven is big on ranks. even when ensigns paris and kim are off duty, she refers to them by rank, because it's their proper designation, one that they have earned the right to. but, if commander la forge is more comfortable with her using his first name... ]

Geordi. I will try to keep that in mind and make use of it more often.

[A smile, both at her agreement and the precise way she words it.] Hey, thanks. It's a little thing but it makes things feel less formal.

You know, I realized you never said how you know of me.

I was assimilated as a child prior to the Battle of Wolf 359. The Borg retained all knowledge assimilated from your captain at that time.

[ and everything they got from the enterprise-e before data locked out the main computer and subsequent crew members who were assimilated thereafter. ]

Ah. [A little pause. As a child.] I guess I'll just have to catch up.

My parents were Magnus and Erin Hansen. Exobiologists. They hoped to study the Borg, to learn more about them. [ captain picard had been aware of her parents and their radical notions, how they petitioned the federation to grant them a vessel so they could travel into deep space in search of this feared race of cybernetic beings said to have decimated thousands of worlds from tales passed down from survivors prior to q's meddling. it's possible commander la forge may have heard of them, too. ] They were unsuccessful.

[ and foolish to bring a small child along with them on what ended up being a very dangerous mission that cost everyone on board the raven their individuality. seven didn't know what had become of her mother, but her father was still a mindless drone. ]

Wow. I'm sorry, Seven. [It's pretty inadequate given the scale of things, and what he's seen the Borg do, but it's the best he can do.]

My father is an Exozoologist too. We did a lot of things when I was growing up, but never anything like studying the Borg. Then again, we didn't know about them until about seven years ago. [Which is a sobering thought. His parents were both curious and brave, and it was that adventuresome nature that got his mother and her entire crew presumed dead. It's not too much of a stretch to think his dad would have taken a few risks for the chance to study what is essentially a new species, if the Borg had been known when Geordi was a kid.]

[ seven is equally as grateful that the collective hadn't yet deemed humanity "worth" pursuing after they assimilated her and her parents, that it had taken Q's meddling and then some to properly attract the borg's attention and give them reason enough to storm the alpha quadrant. oh, how the collective loathed the continuum's interference. especially from that Q in particular. (which made that Q telling his son not to provoke the borg later on somewhat hypocritical.) ]

Don't be. My assimilation was the fault of my parents, no one else's.

[Ouch. Geordi can't really blame her for that analysis, it is the "logical" way to interpret things, but still. It doesn't sit right with him for someone to feel like that about their parents.]

How'd it come about that you were removed from the collective? We don't see it very often.

It is a long story, one I'm your Temporal Prime Directive prevents me from telling in greater detail. However, I can say that the circumstances of my liberation were unique, and that had I been on board a different ship, that captain likely would not have made the decision mine did. Choosing to free a drone rather than kill it isn't something you see very often, either.

Right, if you were a child when during Wolf 359, you must be from years ahead of me in the timeline. [He can't really say how much, since who knows the aging process of assimilated human children? There's still so much they don't know about the Borg.]

I'd like to hope it's not so uncommon. The first Borg I ever knew personally was eventually able to make that choice himself. [Between Hugh and the Captain, Geordi just doesn't doubt the humanity underneath the Borg. Not that killing Borg drones isn't sometimes necessary, just like killing some other species or even other humans sometimes is, but it's not like Geordi doesn't know those are human beings under all the implants.]

I wish there were more people out there willing to take the chance my captain did. They may resist at first, may even resent them for disconnecting them from the hive mind, but in time, they will grow to appreciate that kindness. I have.

[ and she misses her captain, the doctor, tuvok, and everyone else aboard voyager. even those who don't care for her all that much, like commander chakotay and lieutenant torres. seven has adapted to marinanova, but voyager is home. ]

I'm sure we'll get a better idea of things, in time. But for now, it's great that things worked out for you.

Listen, Data's going to be here in a minute. I hope we can catch up later, though. Maybe once I get my bearings a little.

[ wow, it's a good thing this is audio and not visual, because the mere mention of data, and the knowledge that geordi la forge, the person he considers to be his closest friend, will likely soon learn of their relationship is making her blush. ]

I would like that. I hope you are able to acquire your VISOR, Comma-- Geordi.
