[Voice// Video | Open!]
[The feed begins as voice, a man’s concerned but controlled voice making an official-sounding request:] Enterprise, come in. This Lieutenant Commander Geo--

[A brief moment of silence as the feed switches to video, and it becomes obvious why Geordi is having trouble working the device. His eyes, without iris or pupil, clearly mark him as blind.] Any Federation vessel? [A pause.] Computer? Computer, respond.

[He sighs, but doesn’t look surprised. A slight scoff, as if he’s somehow amused while also being irritated.] Figures. How do I switch frequencies on this thing? They could’ve at least left me with my combadge. But alright, let’s try... [He fiddles with the comm buttons and the feed swaps back to voice.]

Hello? Does anyone copy? I could use a little help here, and I’m getting used to the idea of not being picky.

((OOC: Action open to anyone who wants to find a blind man meandering around the beach!))

[ From Data's perspective, Geordi didn't miss much of it. Temporal discrepancies can be difficult to deal with, even for an android. ] Though I am only capable of judging by my own perception of emotion, the chip does indeed seem to function properly. It is no longer fused to my neural net and can be removed, though I am able to deactivate it without physically removing it as well.

[ There's the unsurprising confirmation that she's established contact - and that, of course, she knows about Geordi. ]

Seven is a former Borg drone. As such, she is familiar with all of the Enterprise crew. I experienced a similar response upon our initial meeting.

[ Though his was a little more personal - but as much as he'd like to talk about it with his friend, the details of his abduction by the Borg clearly fall under the category of things that must not be shared. ]

Yeah, she mentioned that. [Geordi more or less lets that information roll off his back, just as it did when Seven mentioned it. They have bigger things to focus on, and she seems individualized enough that already he's not thinking of her as Borg.] She was pretty open about it, and friendly enough -- well, friendly in her way.

It's a shame about her name, though. She should have one that the Borg didn't give her. [Same reason he gave Hugh a name, really. Everyone should have their own identity.]

[ Data has come far enough to know to be cautious here; both in dealing with humans and in dealing with Annika specifically. It's not hard for him to imagine that defining herself going forward is difficult for her. ]

She is aware of her original human identity, inclusive of her name. However, she is still in the process of reclaiming and exploring her humanity and individuality. As such, she is only gradually becoming comfortable about reassuming that identity. Though I have been encouraging her in this pursuit, I believe it is important to respect the pace at which she feels comfortable.

[Whoa, that was surprising. He hasn't seen Data this protective since Spot.] Okay okay, you're right. I didn't mean anything by it, just that it's a little strange to call someone a number. I'm sure she'll get there.

Seems like you've gotten to know her pretty well, huh?

I would not expect you to have "meant anything by it."

[ Said in complete sincerity, because Geordi is the most accepting person he's ever known. Geordi is also the person who can read him most easily. ]

She did arrive at the same time as the Captain and myself. In that time, we have had ample opportunity to become acquainted.

[ The specifics of their relationship are something he realizes he should probably not disclose without her. Impressive that he's learned that. ]

Well, good. [He claps Data on the shoulder again, because he's glad Data's making friends! It's sometimes hard given the feelings people have about androids -- totally unwarranted feelings, by the way.] Good. We could certainly use all the heads we can find, if we're going to work on this little problem.
