[Voice// Video | Open!]
[The feed begins as voice, a man’s concerned but controlled voice making an official-sounding request:] Enterprise, come in. This Lieutenant Commander Geo--

[A brief moment of silence as the feed switches to video, and it becomes obvious why Geordi is having trouble working the device. His eyes, without iris or pupil, clearly mark him as blind.] Any Federation vessel? [A pause.] Computer? Computer, respond.

[He sighs, but doesn’t look surprised. A slight scoff, as if he’s somehow amused while also being irritated.] Figures. How do I switch frequencies on this thing? They could’ve at least left me with my combadge. But alright, let’s try... [He fiddles with the comm buttons and the feed swaps back to voice.]

Hello? Does anyone copy? I could use a little help here, and I’m getting used to the idea of not being picky.

((OOC: Action open to anyone who wants to find a blind man meandering around the beach!))

Commander LaForge. [ she knows who you are. the borg assimilated that information from locutus captain picard, and they had free reign of engineering on the enterprise-e during the attempt to stop first contact. ] You are without your visiual instrument and sensory organ replacement.

Uh... yeah. [It's not entirely unanticipated that he'd get a stranger on the line given the unknown communication system he's using, but someone who knows about his VISOR?]

[Maybe she's from a search party. Even though it had only been a few hours...]

[Yeah. Better make sure.]

I guess they sent out the cavalry already. What ship are you hailing from?

They did not. [ nope. no search party. just an ex borg drone. ] I am not aboard a starship. I was taken from my vessel, much like you were from yours.

Doesn't this day just get better and better? [Heavy on the sarcasm, but it's clear he's not angry with her. Or, clear to people who translate emotions well.]

Well, okay. You know me, so maybe I should know you? So long as we're stuck... wherever. Maybe we can figure out a way back to our ships.

You are attempting to use sarcasm to make light of your situation. I assure you, being present in this facility is not as despondent as it would appear.

[ "should i know you" is a complicated question, geordi. you may not want her to answer that. ]

I am-- aware of you, but we have never met in proper capacity. Attempts are being made, but none that have yet to prove themselves successful. Your contribution to these efforts would be most appreciated.

[ to someone who can't see her borg implants, she likely sounds like a vulcan. or fem!data. ]

[Yeah he was thinking Vulcan. She doesn't sound Romulan or Cardassian, at least. And most definitely not Klingon. Borg would certainly not be on his list, given her reference to herself in the first person.]

Good to know. But let me try this again: I'm Geordi. And your name is...? [He manages a lopsided smile.] It'd be best if I at least know what to call you.

[ you have no idea how long it took for her to stop using "we" and refer to herself as "i." there are still times when talking about the borg that she calls herself/them "we," but in general she's settled in to being "i," the individual. ]

Seven. [ of nine, tertiary adjunct of unimatrix zero-one. she does not like the apprehensiveness that comes with giving someone from her world her designation and knowing that they know what it means to be borg. especially someone from picard's crew. seven hadn't realized how much she appreciated the semi-anonymity that came with mingling with those from other worlds, times, and dimensions until now. ]

Seven. [Geordi repeats the name, and it's clear from his pensive tone that he at least suspects the origin of it. He takes a second to mentally rewind the conversation, but he clearly recalls her using "I". Somewhat stilted language, sure...]

[This might make her knowing about him a tiny bit more worthy of concern if Geordi were someone else. Watching Hugh and the Captain's experiences, as well as figuring that wherever he is there might be limited options, makes him pretty agreeable to working with a probably formerly assimilated woman.]
Okay, Seven. Nice to meet you.

What can you tell me about this place?

I believe the dome to be generating a temporal field which protects its inhabitants from the affects of space-time. As for the dome itself, it likely exists outside of space time in a permanent state of temporal flux in order to compensate for the temporal variants. We have made numerous attempts to scan the dome, but the algorithmic feedback is interfering with tricorder resolutions.

So we're in our own pocket dimension, or something like it. But it sounds more complicated than that based on what my friend Data is telling me. Pulling us all from different points in time isn't something I've seen before in temporal anomalies.

But it's good you have a tricorder, that'll be a big help. Could you tell me where to get more components? Maybe I can rebuild my VISOR, or some approximation of it.

[ your friend, her boyfriend... ]

The commander is correct, though I would recommend speaking to the wardens about your VISOR before attempting to build your own. They are... not entirely unreasonable [ said with great difficulty, as seven does not have a high opinion of the wardens at all ] with requests. However, should they decline, I will assist you.

Wow. Really? That's a pleasant surprise, assuming it works. Thanks on both counts. [He smiles, not able to see that it's not a video feed he's using.]

What's your background, if you don't mind my asking? It's not anyone who can go on about temporal variants at the drop of a hat. [Though he suspects her being at one point assimilated, to Geordi she's just a person who offered to help him out and that makes her a friend. And an intelligent friend at that. No doubt she'll be a great source of ideas while he and Data and the Captain find a way for them all to get out.]

[ ashamed isn't the right word. seven isn't, and has never been, ashamed of what she is. she regrets that she participated in the assimilation of countless species, but understands that those acts were not of her own volition. she was acting under the will of the collective consciousness, carrying out a will that was all she knew for eighteen years of her life. she is not ashamed, but she is... apprehensive.

that doesn't stop her from telling the truth. ]
I was Borg.

[The "was" is a confirmation of what he suspected, and just good to hear that she's that far out of it to both speak in the first person and the past tense.] So were some friends of mine. [Which is to say, no judgment.]

I would really love to talk more about your perspective on all these systems here that I've been hearing about. Maybe I can even help once I get my bearings. And my sight.

We remember. [ sometimes, her pronouns lapse when speaking of the collective perspective, saying "we" or "our" instead of "the borg." ]

I would be happy to do so, Commander.

[ seven is big on ranks. even when ensigns paris and kim are off duty, she refers to them by rank, because it's their proper designation, one that they have earned the right to. but, if commander la forge is more comfortable with her using his first name... ]

Geordi. I will try to keep that in mind and make use of it more often.

You know, I realized you never said how you know of me.

I was assimilated as a child prior to the Battle of Wolf 359. The Borg retained all knowledge assimilated from your captain at that time.

[ and everything they got from the enterprise-e before data locked out the main computer and subsequent crew members who were assimilated thereafter. ]

My parents were Magnus and Erin Hansen. Exobiologists. They hoped to study the Borg, to learn more about them. [ captain picard had been aware of her parents and their radical notions, how they petitioned the federation to grant them a vessel so they could travel into deep space in search of this feared race of cybernetic beings said to have decimated thousands of worlds from tales passed down from survivors prior to q's meddling. it's possible commander la forge may have heard of them, too. ] They were unsuccessful.

[ and foolish to bring a small child along with them on what ended up being a very dangerous mission that cost everyone on board the raven their individuality. seven didn't know what had become of her mother, but her father was still a mindless drone. ]

Wow. I'm sorry, Seven. [It's pretty inadequate given the scale of things, and what he's seen the Borg do, but it's the best he can do.]

My father is an Exozoologist too. We did a lot of things when I was growing up, but never anything like studying the Borg. Then again, we didn't know about them until about seven years ago. [Which is a sobering thought. His parents were both curious and brave, and it was that adventuresome nature that got his mother and her entire crew presumed dead. It's not too much of a stretch to think his dad would have taken a few risks for the chance to study what is essentially a new species, if the Borg had been known when Geordi was a kid.]

[ seven is equally as grateful that the collective hadn't yet deemed humanity "worth" pursuing after they assimilated her and her parents, that it had taken Q's meddling and then some to properly attract the borg's attention and give them reason enough to storm the alpha quadrant. oh, how the collective loathed the continuum's interference. especially from that Q in particular. (which made that Q telling his son not to provoke the borg later on somewhat hypocritical.) ]

Don't be. My assimilation was the fault of my parents, no one else's.

[Ouch. Geordi can't really blame her for that analysis, it is the "logical" way to interpret things, but still. It doesn't sit right with him for someone to feel like that about their parents.]

How'd it come about that you were removed from the collective? We don't see it very often.

It is a long story, one I'm your Temporal Prime Directive prevents me from telling in greater detail. However, I can say that the circumstances of my liberation were unique, and that had I been on board a different ship, that captain likely would not have made the decision mine did. Choosing to free a drone rather than kill it isn't something you see very often, either.
