Day 226 l Christmas Party Mingle
[Ianto has, predictably, gone a bit overboard for the Christmas party he and Jack are throwing. The entire apartment has been decorated; there's a tree with gold and silver ornaments and twinkling lights, garlands draped over doorways, candles in every window and festive nicknacks scattered about. It looks like something out of a magazine, and may make visitors a little afraid to actually touch anything. There's also a lot of mistletoe around (one of the side effects of living with Captain Jack Harkness) so it's probably a good idea to keep one eye on the ceiling at all times.

Of course he's made plenty of coffee and some appetizers, so he hopes people really do respond to the invitation Jack sent out, otherwise there are going to be a hell of a lot of leftovers.]

[Jack notices the uncomfortable shifting (he's not completely blind to body language, however hard he finds it to read on occasion) and manages to tone down the surprise. He is, after all, in no position to judge on this particular area, even if there was a very specific reason for it.]

Fair enough. I was pretty much tee-total myself for over a century. Uh... coke, then? Or cranberry juice? How about cranberry and ginger beer - that's a pretty good mocktail!

[ It's not that he's ashamed. It isn't and under different circumstances he might even be forthcoming with his problem, but this doesn't seem like the time or the place. It's an easy excuse to make, although he's been working on being more open about that particular thing.

He does follow along obediently. Easily, even. ]

I wonder if embracing the wardens holiday whims is a sign of having been here too long.

Yeah, I’ve been told I’ve been here before too but yeah, I don’t remember it either. Besides, I think seventy-nine days are enough. Even I’ve been here… hell, it must be coming up to a month now.

[Wow, he really hadn’t realised it had been that long! He finishes Reid’s drink and hands it to him with a smile.] Anyway, cheers. Happy – er – Christmas!

	It does! [Jack refills his cup with punch and joins him in a drink. And then glances up at the ceiling, and then back at Reid, with a bit of a smirk.] You know, we appear to be standing right under some of Ianto's mistletoe. [ Y'know, he actually had noticed the mistletoe but the fact that it wasn't enforced the way mistletoe usually works in this place made him more or less forget about it. He follows Jack's eyes upwards, some color draining from his face once he realizes the implications here. ]

...You're not serious, are you? [ Not quite backing out, simply because he doesn't think anything will come from it. ]

Very rarely. [He grins.] I'm always partial to a little snog, though! Anyway, I already got Kitty, so I really do think I should make it an even pair!

[There's something a little bit dangerous about Jack when he's like this. The way he makes outrageous things sound so very normal, like he really expects you to do them. Couple that with his somewhat overpowering personality, and he knows that can make it hard to say no.

That's what he's counting on here. He'd never force himself on Reid if Reid made it clear he was completely against the idea, but he's hoping his personal magnetism/51st century pheromones/whatever is enough to swing him round.

He's been set a challenge by Ianto and Kitty, after all. He really has to live up to his reputation now!]

[ Normally, he would've turned heel and fled a long time ago. This is not a situation he likes to find himself in but there are plenty of factors at play here that make him stay. Kitty wearing down his defenses is certainly one of them. Being somewhat of a Marina veteran with two mistletoe-bot invasions under his belt helps too, along with Jack's personality and, yes, 51st century pheromones.

He does smell good. It's a party. He's kissed a lot less desirable men over the past few months. What's the harm, really?

So despite having every intention in the world (and then some) to decline, Reid soon finds himself saying: ]

[Jack grins widely, more surprised than he thought he'd be but very definitely pleased.]

Good for you! [He starts to lean in, and then pauses once he's close, to murmur:] Don't worry. I promise not to involve tongues or anything. [And then he's completing the lean, going slow because Reid's got a full drink in his hand after all. One hand settles against Reid's jaw (a very fine jaw, he notices) to steady him as he presses warm lips lightly against Reid's. Relatively chaste, for Jack, but very obviously enjoying it too.]

[ The thought hadn't quite crossed his mind until Jack made that promise, and still he was filled with such a sense of relief that he completely forgot to be uncomfortable with the whole ordeal. Sure, there's still tension in his movements but not nearly as much as there could've been and for a moment he gets a little lost — first time being kissed by a man when consent is actually present rather than obligation, life-or-death situations or emotional and physical abuse.

It's... nice, actually. Nicer than he thought it would be.

For a brief moment, he gets a little lost. A slight parting, not enough to deepen but certainly enough to count as responsive and then he pulls back. Clears his throat and averts his eyes. Well then. ]

[It's certainly a lot more than Jack expected, and he's even more pleasantly surprised. He smiles against Reid's mouth, and then lets him go when he pulls back, palm stroking just momentarily down his jaw as he does so.

He takes a sip of his drink to give him a moment, smiling happily.] All right?

[And tries not to be too obvious in glancing around to see if either Kitty or Ianto are watching.]

[ It's one of those moments where you're simultaneously pleasantly surprised by your own moxy and mentally kicking yourself for doing something so out of your comfort zone in public. Still, at the end of the day he has no regrets and he's sure he can think of something to blame. The holiday spirit, wanting to let go for once, Jack being Jack.

That last one might be the thing to save him, actually.

He shifts his weight and takes a sip of his drink before going for any kind of response, voice a little rough and eyes kept stubbornly away from the other man. ]

Yeah, It was uhm. [ Beat. ] You're not asking me for a review, are you.
