226 [Action] | Closed party for Merlotte's employees
[Sam has encouraged his employee's to take the holiday off to go and enjoy the snow or festivities while they last (This is part of their gift from him). He won't force people to leave if they insist on working but Merlotte's probably won't be very busy anyway.

Later this evening he'll close the bar down for a christmas party he's throwing for his employee's. They've been told they can bring one guest of their choosing, be it a friend, significant other or a family member! Food, drinks, music, gifts, the whole shebang just for his wonderful volunteers. Happy Holidays!
]

~~Sam will be giving certain special ladies (and Spike) gifts for the holiday!~~

Buffy - A silver necklace With a thicker made chain so if she needs to use it ...
Sookie - A pair of earrings
Lacus - A Lotus necklace
Rose - A bottle of red wine
Spike - A bottle of whiskey-- Both packaged together "For the happy couple. Seasons Greetings. Sam"

((ooc: I am open for other people tagging Sam outside of Merlotte's for gift giving or otherwise!))

[Lacus has a busy day today, but of course she wouldn't miss a party at Merlotte's. Her schedule can find room for someone as kind and wonderful as Sam.]

[And of course she's brought him a gift. Not wanting to duplicate gifts among bar owners, she's brought Sam a collection of carved beer taps with the name "Merlotte's Bar" burned into them in neat calligraphy. Each one has a space for individual labeling, done in chalkboard so it can be revised at a later date.]

[For the other employees, she made liquor-infused cupcakes which are conspicuously arranged on a tray for anyone who might like one. Each has a miniature chocolate bottle on top with a tiny icing label to indicate the vintage.]

[Aside from gift-giving, Lacus can be found socializing, dancing, and possibly singing if the occasion calls for it, her well-trained voice gets too little practice these days. But she is mindful of the time, not wanting to neglect her other plans.]

[When Lacus hands him the beer taps he's absolutely speechless. He carefully handles each one of them as if they are fragile and precious. Well, they are precious, this is quite possibly one of the most beautiful and thoughtful gifts he's ever gotten.]

I don't know what to say. Thank you.

On the contrary, that was the perfect thing to say. [Hopefully he's too dumbfounded to pull back when she stretches up to kiss his cheek.]

But truly, it is I who should give you thanks. This place has given me a place to feel at home in this new dome when I had thought, for a time, that was something I could never have.

[A kiss on the cheek is perfectly fine and he gives her a small lop-sided smile.]

That in itself is one of the best gifts anyone could give me, cause that's just what I wanted this bar to be.

But these... [Holding up the beer taps proudly.] These are gorgeous too.

[He'll set them down somewhere carefully to be put on his taps, then he'll turn around and pick up a gift off the back counter to hand it to her. It's small but wrapped nicely with a bow on top.]

Here, I got ya little somethin' too.

[Lacus looks delighted at the box even before she opens it. With her, it really is the thought that counts.] Thank you, Sam! How thoughtful of you.

[Upon opening the box, her smile softens and she instantly removes the gorgeous necklace and opens the clasp.] It's lovely! Would you help me put it on?

[He watches her with a smile on his face then nods when she asks for help. He'll come around to do just that, helping to brush aside her hair before taking the clasp and latching it for her.]

There ya go. Lets see it on.

[Lacus turns her back so he can clasp the necklace, then turns with a toss of her hair toward him, her smile bright and beaming.] What do you think?

[She brushes her fingers over the lotus petals appreciatively.] I think it does.

I'm very happy that you think well enough of me to think of me when you look at something like this.

Well of course. It's... kinda cheesy but ya do remind me of a pretty flower.

[It's the hair okay. He's really not much of a jewelry expert but he knows girls like that kind of stuff. Even if he doesn't really see Lacus as the materialistic type.]

Besides I thought it would look nice on you. [And he was right.]

That explains some of the gifts I received today, I suppose. There was an abundance of pink flowers. [She looks amused, but not mockingly so. Of course they were all very appreciated.]

But your flower won't wilt, and I can see it looking just as beautiful every day.

Haha I guess when people see pink it reminds them of you?

[A smirk. He feels clever.] That's true. Even more fitting then.

[Cause you're beautiful every day too. He's reeling in the cheese a bit, trying not to be TOO flirtatious. He has a girlfriend after all and doesn't want to give the wrong impression, even if he knows Lacus won't see it as any more than Sam's charm, a passer by may think otherwise.]

[Lacus isn't the modest type, so there's no blushing or shying away from the compliment. What she does do is smile prettily and laugh a quiet, dainty laugh.] You're always so sweet, Sam. I couldn't ask for a better friend.

As for the pink, I suppose my hair is rather unusual. A great many people at home find it surprising as well. I got it from my mother, and hers was a specifically chosen shade. I suppose whoever assisted in her birth thought it would be unique.

Likewise Lacus.

[Wait. His brows furrow some, uncertain he just hear that correctly.]

So... you kin pick the color of your child's hair?

My parents did. Their generation was genetically engineered. Each trait was carefully selected. That was the first generation of Coordinators.

My generation was born like any other child, but we inherited our parents engineered genes. [As open as she is about her heritage, and as much as Lacus trusts Sam, she has waited longer than usual to mention this. She ponders just why that might be, and chalks it p to another thing this place is doing to her.]

[His brows raise.] Wow. That's pretty incredible stuff.

I cain't even imagine having th'sorta technology t'genetically engineer children. I mean, t'the point you kin choose every trait.

I mean we're still tryin' t'clone animals and such. [Though he's sure he's heard things about genetic engineering too, just nothing to that level. Even the stuff they were doing wasn't quite perfected.]

[A nod,] Some thought of it as the next stage in human evolution. But as many problems resulted from the advances as benefits. It was the cause of both wars I was forced to fight in.

[A painful subject indeed, but she makes efforts to not let it show. This is a happy occasion.]

[He nods with something that indicates he wasn't surprised by that news.]

It's hard t'picture you fightin' in one war, let alone two. No offense or nothin' you're just too sweet a person t'imagine gettin' her hands dirty.

[It was a sad thought, he knew Lacus loved people and all.]

[Her smile takes a turn for the sadder, though not overly.]

I wouldn't, if it were my choice. But it was necessary. I had a great deal of influence at home, and someone the people knew and trusted was needed to show them why the fighting was so wrong. We were fortunate to gain many followers after that.

[He nods. It's rough to see her lose some of the light in her smile.]

It's even harder for me t'imagine y'goin' t'war without a really good reason. My best friend was a veteran. More power t'anyone willin' to make that kinna stand. I know what it can do to people.

I try not to let it show. It would be difficult for the people who rely on me.

[Which is as close as he will get her to admitting, at least in public and at a happy occasion, that it affected her profoundly. Killing people was necessary in battle, the consequences of not fighting would have been far too dire, but still it pains her.]

[He also understands this and slips in to wrap an arm around her to pull her in for a tight squeeze. He'll rub her arm slightly in comfort.]

You're a real strong person Lacus. An' likewise it's okay t'sometimes not be so strong. If ya ever need anyone t'listen, you kin always talk to me about this stuff. I helped my buddy through some things after th'war.

[instead of the polite hug one might expect, Lacus gives Sam a firm, grateful squeeze, and whispers her thanks in a far more personal and meaningful way. It's not anyone she feels comfortable being so vulnerable with.]

I hope your friend was okay. And I'm sure he was glad for your help.

He's doin' great.

[He'll let the hug linger as long as she needs. And really, Terry was doing so well cause he fell in love and had a family to take care of now. Which lets Sam's mind wander to how Lacus copes, it's really no wonder she looks after everyone and is always willing to help or cook or something incredibly sweet.]

So... [Change of subject yes?] Y'want a drink?

[he hit the nail on the head, that's exactly how she copes.]

[once she pulls back. His question is enough to bring back her smile.]
I'd love one. Serve me anything you think would suit me. [Shes learned to like the most surprising drinks this way!]
