Class 003 : Day 224 : Werewolves
[Sam is a little nervous about today's class. The first two were easy enough. As far as he can tell there are no "real" ghosts in the prison and definitely no wendigos. Werewolves on the other hand? There's definitely one and he considers him a friend. He'd be lying if he said he didn't also consider him a threat. After all it wasn't that long ago he hurt Martha and maybe others when the prison played with their emotions. It wasn't Oz's fault, but it happened and it could happen again. It was something that resonated with him considering the way things ended with the subject of his case study.

If the teacher looks a little more affected by this particular lesson than he was by the first two, it's because he is. It's personal, but the fact that it can be a threat here makes it all the more important to get the information out there.]

Today's subject is werewolves. Before we start, I just want to remind everyone of the basics. I'm providing information researched in my world. It may or may not apply to any other werewolves you meet at home or here.

Overview : Werewolves

Werewolves are formerly human and still live as humans most of the time except during full moons when they transform. Where I'm from that means fangs, claws, and yellow eyes, but I know in some places they look more like wolves.

They change because at some point they were bitten by another werewolf and got infected. They might not even know they were changed. It's possible for them to transform, kill and change back without understanding what's happening to them or having memories of it.

When they're in wolf form their thinking becomes very basic and animalistic. Tehy want to hunt and kill. It could be opportunity or a drive from their subconscious that directs them where to attack. They're stronger, faster, and more agile. They've also got enhanced senses like a wolf.

Case Study : Madison

We had a case in San Francisco. There was a rash of violent deaths and all signs were pointing to a werewolf. We met up with a woman named Madison. Her boss had just been killed and we suspected her ex-boyfriend. It turned out we needed to be protecting him from her. She had been infected by a neighbor, and had no idea she was killing people who had been problems for her. She even killed a police officer who had tried to stop her.

There was a theory that killing the sire would cure the victim from their lycanthropy, [He's definitely somber here.] but we managed to prove that wrong. After her sire died she spent one night in her human form and the next as a wolf. There's no known cure. [And he's not finishing the story of what happened to her next.]

Practical : Prevention and defense

The most important thing about werewolves is to never let them bite you. It's easier said than done, but it's important.

[He takes a deep breath.] Before I go into this next part I just want to remind everyone we are talking about a person—someone who was born human and lives more days as a human than a beast. Someone not in control of their actions, but still deadly to all those around them. [The most serious of faces, because he does not take this lightly.]

They are strong and hard to kill in wolf form. The most effective way to do it is with silver. It could be a silver dagger or bullet. It just needs to penetrate the heart, but bullets are better because it's a distance shot—less risk to you. It's said silver is related to the moon. That might be part of why it works.

[And a nod to Buffy's question last time, but without the literal nodding.] Dismemberment is also...effective. If they are killed in werewolf form they'll revert back to human when they die. [And on that note...]

[Oz slips in the back. He doesn't like the topic today. But he'd heard about it and decided to be a glutton for punishment and show up to listen. Everywhere he goes it seems he's in a cage. There's the cage in his apartment. The prison itself it a cage. And now he's in a cage with people who know how to kill him rather than stop him until he can shift back.

His mood is dark and troubled as he slips back out once Sam is done answering questions. No, he won't be staying to mingle with the people in attendance. He's just gonna disappear as quietly as he had appeared, and he's gonna do it quick. Laying low is a good idea.

He does toss a quick voice to Buffy, reassuring himself that she still has the tranquilizer they'd requested from the Wardens.]

ooc: If anyone really wants to chat, they can toss him a voice or video or find him somewhere not in a room of people who just learned how to kill him.

[When Rogue catches wind of what the class today is about, she heads to Oz's cage. When she doesn't find him there, she hits the koi pond before finally slipping into the class after it's started near the back. She spots Oz and slides up next to him, her gloved hand reaching for his. She leans over and brushes her lips against his cheek, not enough to hurt him, but perhaps enough to tingle.]

[He smells Rogue before he sees her. His only acknowledgement of her holding his hand is for his to hold hers in return. And what of her touch would hurt a normal person is just like a fizzle of static electricity to Oz, at least initially. With that light touch she might get a hint at all the discomfort and perhaps a bit of betrayal that he's feeling. Sam was his friend, after all. Oz had confided in him. And here he just told everyone how to kill him. It was a strange feeling, a mixture of emotions that he'd have to examine later when he wasn't in a room of freshly armed people who would now shoot first and ask questions later.

When the class is over, he turns to walk out because there's no way he's staying here. He's still holding Rogue's hand. And he gives her a look that obviously says 'coming?'. Scared animal is officially scared to be in here any longer than necessary.]

[She does get all those things from him, but it's also things that she sort of assumed he'd be feeling.

Obviously she's going with. He's the only reason she attended anyway. She doesn't usually come to these classes because Rogue doesn't have a lot of interest in kill anything or anyone. In her world, all the creatures that Sam is talking about would be mutants. She's adopted Xavier's idea that we reform people, we don't kill them.

Once they're outside, she speaks.]

So I was thinkin' maybe we could stay in and watch a movie or somethin'. If you're lookin' for somethin' to do.

[Oz is of like mind. His pack in Tibet is completely about reformation. Sometimes there were wolves that didn't want a peaceful existence, that didn't want to put themselves in a cage. But he believed they should have the option rather than die just for being what they are. A part of him, the part that was frustrated with all of this, wondered when Sam was going to have the class on protecting every known supe and humanity itself from humans.

Outside, at her proposition, he's quietly thoughtful for a few moments. He obviously has a lot running through his mind. Outwardly, he looks calm as a cucumber though, if just a hint troubled.] A movie.

[After a moment, he nods.] Staying in sounds good. [Honestly, now that this place feels like a powder keg about to explode on his doorstep, he's good with staying indoors and away from everyone but those he trusts for the rest of forever.]

I'm thinking some meditation might help... this feeling. [This animal trapped in a cage feeling? Yeah, he's felt it many times before. It's never a good feeling. And this time it feels different than the other times, for a couple of reasons. Sam had given people ammunition against him. And unlike back home, here there was nowhere for him to run and barely a place to hide.]

[Enough people in that room knew something about werewolves. Buffy clearly knew things, and Dawn seemed to have an understanding of something too. So if anything, Martha was starting to feel safer around him. Maybe that was wrong, but now that she wasn't alone, that was good.]

I... could go somewhere indoors with you. Or if you would rather I left you alone...?

[She would like to help if she could. Martha's leaving the ball in Oz's court though. If he would rather she stay away, she would. Mostly she feels bad for how awful he sounds.]
