When I said I wanted to get out of Mystic Falls for a while, this wasn't exactly what I had in mind. Ruins of some ancient prison in Italy or China, maybe, but not underwater and in some alien dimension, or however the hell that's supposed to work. [ if he's getting the gist of this right. he's going by video game logic here. ]

And what happened to a trial by a jury of your peers? Is that not a thing on Planet X? Too human a concept for you? Is throwing eighteen-year-olds in prison for skipping a couple of classes back in high school [ and eradicating an entire vampire bloodline via staking finn mikaelson, but shhhh ] just something you do for fun around here?

[ just when things had calmed down and the world was returning to normal (or as normal as the world was capable of getting after everything that happened back home), this happens. it's just his luck, too. nothing ever stayed good for matt donovan. his life sucked, and it looks like graduating from high school meant it was only going to get suckier from here on out. ]

So much for the world tour.

[ she thought he should know - really, sam deserves to know a lot of things; elena's not sure she's ready or wants to share those parts of herself with him, or anyone. (there a lot of things she's not quite sure she's ready to explain or if it's necessary to; for a time she didn't think of them at all. and what it all boils down to is damon loves her and she loves him and there are so many reasons they're not together.)

maybe she's simply afraid to; maybe she knows she just doesn't owe it to him until she wants to share.

but talking about matt is easier. it hurts; he's right. there are a lot of feelings connected to matt, and seeing matt here. maybe not in any romantic sense - but there are.

she pauses, licks her lips, nods. ] He's important to me. I don't... feel... that way about him, but... he means a lot. [ he doesn't deserve this. not anyone does, but matt could have a life outside of what their lives have become, if he chose - but elena knows despite how he could, and how he wants that normal life, and why he hasn't stepped away from it - he wouldn't abandon them either. that's not who matt is.

she wants to see him and she wants him home. ]

[Sam nods in understanding. With Elena there is always so much more going on in her eyes than she admits to on her lips, but then she and Sam have that in common. Sometimes they are too alike and sometimes that is exactly what makes being with her so comforting as strange or narcissistic as that might sound.]

It's always a bit day when someone from your home arrives whether it's someone you've missed or not.

[ her smile fades - not for lack of the good news, but perhaps because she wasn't expecting much of any, even if it's only a step in what could be the right direction. (or just the next.) ] That's good. [ it's a bit of hope, and elena will gladly accept it. (it matters he said matt right now above others, above saying everyone. it matters he seems to know it matters.) ]

Well, there's a lot to do with getting everyone's perspective while we were there. [Disclaimers go here.] But did you notice some people didn't look exactly like they usually do at least with the hair? I think mine looked a little longer. [He thought he was just losing it at first when he noticed, but then he saw Tyki's was suddenly a lot longer and then he started to really pay attention.] I'm not sure what it means yet. Maybe we were gone longer than we thought.
