[Video//Action | early morning, before activities]
[The video opens to a pale hand groping pitifully at the floor, where the communicator is filming. She must have knocked it when she went fishing for it. With blue-tinged fingernails, the hand finally nabs the comm and drags it upwards, bypassing a plate of what looks like yesterday's dinner (fried rice with cabbage and root vegetables). The food is untouched.]

[Saya's face comes into view. She's trembling, eyes dull and barely open, skin so pale it's nearly translucent.]

...Zero? [Her voice is as small and shaky and devoid of vitality as the rest of her.] And Yuuki, and Aidan... Tear? Laura? I need to... see you. Please?

[Too late to wish for her bed, or a last trip to the sea. Saya won't make it back, if they even are going back. One last image of the people she cares most about will be the best she can do for the last things she'll ever see.]

***
((OOC: Saya's final post in Marina. She'll be falling into hibernation after this and dropped from the game. Thanks to everyone who played with her, it's been a great few years!))

[The edges of his mouth curl up just slightly, smiling a little in amusement.] You didn't realize it? You helped prove a lot of my thoughts about the world...to be wrong.

[Her face plainly shows her astonishment -- or an echo of it, at least, since her energy is nearly too far out of reach for her to express herself.]

Will you... tell me? [Saya hadn't been thinking she'd done a thing except murder her sister. This is an unexpected gift, maybe the best she could dare ask for.]

[He frowns, wanting to tell her everything but not even sure exactly where to begin. But something inside him knows that Saya needs to hear all of this. So she understands the impact that she--inparticular--has had on his life.]

I know I don't share a lot about myself or my life with people, so I'm not sure how much you know or don't know about everything. Likely just bits and pieces...

[Giving her hand a quick squeeze, knowing the things he says to her from here on out may come as a surprise.]

Because the person you met only helped you in order to stop Diva. I used you because that's what I needed to do in order to protect everyone. I'm a vampire hunter, I take that job very seriously.

[Inhaling deeply, he moves back in time a bit and fills in parts Saya might have missed.]

After Ichiru betrayed our family and had our parents murdered and left me to transform, I was sent to live with a former vampire hunter. He believed completely that vampires and humans could live together. So much he started a school that did that very thing.

He'd adopted a human girl several years before I'd arrived there who had been involved in a vampire attack. The girl had no memory of her past before that moment--but she'd been saved by a vampire. She feared them but idolized them at the same time. In particular her savior Kaname Kuran.

I spent four years there, fighting their pro-vampire rhetoric and agenda, struggling with my own transformation into the very thing I hated-and my feelings for the kind human girl who insisted on taking care of me. In a moment of weakness, I attacked her. Her response at discovering what I was and the problems I was having--was to offer her blood to me. And so that's what we did. She would do anything to ensure I lived. Even risk her own life. Which she did, over and over.

I lived only for her sake. Did things I wouldn't normally do in order to get stability in my life and ease her worries. Her past worried her a lot--and once I was stable we were able to focus on that.

[The smile that crosses his face isn't happy, it's ashamed--upset.]

We didn't get very far. Dead ends. Documents burned the moment she touched them. Then she fell ill...the times she was awake were full of delusions and out of character actions.

And then her savior came once again...to return her to her real state and take her away. She'd been hidden as a human to protect her and I'd been placed with her because I would be capable of protecting her. I lost my brother the same day--to the same person that was after her.

I lost everything again that day...I was furious.

[Wide-eyed, Saya barely breathes as Zero tells his story. She never got to hear so much about him at once. It's the best gift he could give her now.]

It was Yuuki? [Of course it is. Saya hadn't known Zero to be as passionate about anyone -- even when he couldn't remember her.]

[He gives a small nod, before continuing on with his story.]

I convinced myself that two people had died that day. Ichiru literally died in my arms and I kissed the human Yuuki goodbye. Though Ichiru's body eventually grew cold and the life slipped away from his eyes--Yuuki was warm. Her eyes were full of life.

I swore if I saw her again, I would kill her. I meant it. Her final words to me before parting were "Then I'll keep running from you so you have something to live for."

But vampires from my world...need the blood of the ones they love in order to help their sanity. When our paths began to cross again--I told myself it was just because of the reminder of the past. I struggled and fought...but little by little I let her back into my world. Always there was this distance.

She took my memories back home because I refused to face reality and help myself. Rather than touch her blood, I drank from the vampires I hunted to help with my sanity. Which only made it worse.
