Day 218 Action: Open
Since Rose left to go back to her own apartment and with Ianto and Jack busy doing what she suspected they were doing, Martha had spent quite a bit of time by herself. She'd gone to the one Investigation Team meeting, but mainly stayed to the outskirts watching and observing. Today she was running errands.

Her day started with a trip to the library. After picking up three books, she made her way to the sector three gardens. Martha had taken up meditation, and though she wasn't very good at it yet, it was helping her calm her mind and think through her predicament. If one were to stumble across her at the library, they'd find her in the medical section or the self-help section. In the gardens, she found a quiet spot to meditate. Most noticeable about her were the three lines of stitches on the back of her arm starting near her wrist and disappearing under her sleeve. Second most notable were the books either in her arms or next to her on the ground: two on advanced medical knowledge and a self-help book on losing one's fiance.

[Here Martha's eyebrows did shoot up in surprise.] You do stitches? Well color me shocked.

[She glanced down at his books and back up at his face with sudden understanding.] But then, that would make sense. You can't really be going to hospitals of the time when you're doing things that should stay secret.

You got me there. [A little throat clearing.] Really basic ones. Nothing fancy. [And usually done in a cheap hotel room or in the car, sometimes directly on himself. A hunter's life is fun that way.]

Well, the good thing about stitches is there's nothing really fancy about them. They just need to keep you from leaking.

And a little scar never hurt anyone.

[Martha does smile at that good-naturedly.]

No... though I have to admit, I wouldn't mind one a little small that what I'm going to have.

What you're going to have?

Well the scars... it's always nice when you have a little one. And you can say something like, "See? I got this one while playing tag with my brother. I ran into a tree." Or maybe, "This happened when I fell out of a tree." Or even a surgical scar and you can come up with a story about how you had a third leg or something.

But this? [She rolled up her sleeve to the elbow.] That goes all the way up to my shoulder. And then there's the one on my back. I can't explain that away with running into a tree.

[He looks at it and nods, wishing again that he'd been there to stop it.] Not a story you'd want to tell. [Not exactly a question.]

But then, I like jackets, and Tom's not in the picture anymore so, it's not a big deal I suppose.

I don't think... I mean, if someone were in a relationship with you and they... [Words are hard, okay?]

Well, if someone had a problem with it then they probably weren't worth it.

You fluster so easily. [She smiles as she says it before turning back to the topic at hand.]

And you're absolutely right. They aren't worth it. But then I'm also not planning on seeing anyone for a while anyway.

[It takes time to get over your fiance leaving you.]

Still, I should come up with a good story. Currently I'm working off of dog attack. Maybe alien attack?

[He just looks suitably embarrassed at her comment about his flustering. It's definitely worse sometimes than others.] Alien dog attack? Maybe gear it to who you're with.

[She nods and shrugs.]

And who knows. Scar cream works wonders for some people. There's more important things to worry about here anyway. But I'll let you get back to your lesson planning. I have a date with some neuroscience.

[He nods.] Have fun with the neuroscience. Make sure it doesn't keep you out too late. [Little smile.]
