Day 218 Action: Open
Since Rose left to go back to her own apartment and with Ianto and Jack busy doing what she suspected they were doing, Martha had spent quite a bit of time by herself. She'd gone to the one Investigation Team meeting, but mainly stayed to the outskirts watching and observing. Today she was running errands.

Her day started with a trip to the library. After picking up three books, she made her way to the sector three gardens. Martha had taken up meditation, and though she wasn't very good at it yet, it was helping her calm her mind and think through her predicament. If one were to stumble across her at the library, they'd find her in the medical section or the self-help section. In the gardens, she found a quiet spot to meditate. Most noticeable about her were the three lines of stitches on the back of her arm starting near her wrist and disappearing under her sleeve. Second most notable were the books either in her arms or next to her on the ground: two on advanced medical knowledge and a self-help book on losing one's fiance.

[Euphie looks over curiously as she is passing through the park. She doesn't want to interrupt, but the stitches do worry her.] Ah, hello?

[Martha looks up. Meditation wasn't working so well, and she was alert to all the sounds around her, so she had heard someone approaching before they came. Though Martha had hoped that her meditation pose would keep said person from bothering her, she smiled when the girl spoke up.]

Hello. Nice day for a walk.

It is. I like to enjoy the park. I hope I'm not interrupting you though. You were relaxing?

Martha shook her head to answer the question.

"I was trying to meditate, but I'm rather awful at the whole thing."

"Mm, I think I know some people like that." Her siblings. "Too many important thoughts?"

Martha laughed. "I don't know about important. Some of them are quite trivial. They just don't stop!"

"I have days like that too." She smiles, brushing back some of her long, pink hair. "Have you been having trouble sleeping because of it?" Euphie has a little experience with that and a lot with nightmares. Trauma is fun.

"Sometimes." Yes, trauma is way fun to deal with. "And other times I'm OK. It's been worse here, but then here is not normal."

"No, this place is very unusual. You're newer though, aren't you? Maybe with a little time you'll find it gets easier."

"It's been... a little over a week I think. Maybe two?"

She smiles at the other woman. "I'm Martha by the way. And might I say, you have beautiful hair." She had noticed the pink, but the woman had jumped into other questions that Martha had to fend before evening mentioning the hair.

"I'm Euphemia, or Euphie if you prefer. It's nice to meet you, Martha."

She smiles almost shyly at the compliment. "Do you think so? Thank you. Yours is very nice too."

Martha smiles and thanks the other woman for the compliment, but she's more interested in the name. "Euphemia? That sounds like there's a story behind it."

"Everyone has a story of why they're named what they're named. I'm named after my grandmum. But Euphemia is so beautiful. I was just curious." Though now she wonders if she pried and looks a little abashed.

"Thank you, and that's a nice reason for a name," she smiles, not minding the question. She just doesn't have a very good answer for it. "I suppose I don't know. I'm not even sure who named me. I never thought to ask anyone. I suppose you could say we all had traditional Britannian names though."

"Britannian? I'm from Great Britain too, in my world at least. If it's the same place. that you're talking about."

But Martha's more concerned about another part of Euphie's statement.

"Didn't your mother or father name you?"

"Ah, no, I'm afraid it's not the same place. Great Britain exists too, but it's across the ocean, and it's not part of the Britannian Empire."

She gives a bit of a nod at the second part. "They likely did. I'm not sure which of them did though. I don't have many opportunities to see them."

Really?

[Color her surprised.]

When did they change their name to Britannian... Empire? Or... maybe the better question is why?
