There’s a growl coming from that dark alley over there, a snarl from the shadow of that tree, a scratching of claws against pavement and gravel. Behind you? In front of you? Left? Right? A large hulking shadow is there just out of the corner of your eye and then gone. A game of predator and prey has begun without anyone’s permission.

The wolf won over Oz’s control today. In wolf form, Oz is still bipedal but also able to creep around like a quadruped. He’s covered in black fur with coal black eyes, sharp teeth and claws that can deal heavy and deadly damage. Depending on the time of day in which you catch him, Oz might still be fighting the transformation and able to (somewhat) understand what’s happening around him. The later it gets in the day, the more wolf he will be. By the end of the night, he’ll end up in sector six with the rest of the animals.

ooc: Please let me know in an added ooc note on your thread or through my plurk how much damage it’s okay to deal to your character. It’s okay to damage the wolf too, but he will deal back what he’s given and run if he gets too injured like any wild animal would.

Under normal circumstances, he might have been able to control the wolf to an extent. But for some unknown reason, today is not a normal day. Something is happening that's forced Oz's emotions into a spiral that does nothing to help control anything, let alone a feral monster hellbent on tasting blood.

The wolf's nostrils flare, a scent that Oz inside the wolf knows well, but a scent that the wolf wants to bathe in because with it comes blood and guts and muscle he can sink his teeth into. The wolf feels no fear right now as it hunches down and begins to creep toward her.

Rogue's mind goes blank. She knows there's a protocol for something like this. She probably saw it on some program at Xavier's. They had satellite and a good deal of free time. However, she can't remember what that protocol is right now.

She's not supposed to run, right? It makes her look more like prey. Or something like that. She takes a couple of steps backwards, a means of putting some distance between her and the wolf without turning tail and running.

"Oz, I know you can hear me, Sugar. You don't wanna do this."

She's trying to peel her glove off faster but her fingers keep slipping. The fact that she's broken into a terrified sweat doesn't help her get the glove off any faster.

She gets just a moment of reprieve here. At her voice, the wolf pauses, head tilting to the side as if it's listening, as if it might understand the words she's saying. Oz's consciousness inside takes a breath of relief. 'That's right. Go to your cage. Go to sector six. Don't hurt her. Don't hurt her. She's a friend. Don't hurt her.' Deep down, he knows that he isn't helping at all. Normally it might help. But not today, he can feel it.

That slip of her glove, just a bare patch of skin has the wolf smelling even more of her. The sound of her heartbeat floods his ears. He can even hear the blood gushing through her veins. His ears twitch, listening to the call.

The hesitation, that reprieve, is enough that Rogue relaxes a hair. She believes, for that moment, that Oz is in there and that she can help him. Her heart is hammering a hundred miles an hour as she takes a step closer.

"That's right. We're gonna head back to your place and I'm gonna get you somewhere safe. I'll sit with you if you want."

Inside the wolf, Oz is far too emotional for a statement like that. It reminds him of those first years as a wolf when he'd had no control. A time when he was still figuring it all out and Willow would sit with him outside of his cage reading to the wolf. It's been forever since someone accepted him, wolf and all. Even Bay was about ignoring that the wolf was there.

That flicker of emotion gave the wolf more leeway. Now the beast is closing in on all fours. There's a flash of teeth, tongue flicking out in anticipation of fresh, raw meat.

Rogue has a lot of experience accepting people as they are. She honestly just considers Oz's wolf a bit like a mutation. He's not, in her opinion, that different from Logan when he got angry. Sure, Logan had more self control when he got angry, but he was still scary and still Logan. Oz is scary and not in control, but he's still Oz underneath the teeth and claws.

Rogue's fear took over and she starts backpedaling. Another step and she starts turn to run away, even if deep inside she knows she doesn't have any hope of running away from the wolf.

The wolf is happy to give chase. It's really a shame, because the the only answer is to run, but then the animal inside finds fleeing prey exhilarating. He runs after her, pouncing and rolling with her as claws sink into her skin at her shoulder, at her side and sliding into her waist through the cotton material of her clothing.

The scent of blood is strong. Nostrils flare and the wolf rolls away off of her in a flurry of dark fur and sharp, blood soaked claws, lowering down on his haunches and slowly creeping back toward her.

Rogue goes down when he pounces on her, a strangled scream catching in her throat. Pain is something that Rogue is acquainted with. She thought her bones were going to come apart when Magneto hooked her up to that machine. This pain isn't quite that overwhelming, but it's sharp and it's scary and it comes with the knowledge that she could die here. With Magento, there was always the assurance that Logan and the others would come for her. There was only the question of if they would be fast enough. Here, there is no such assurance. Here, Rogue is going to have to save herself.

The weight of the wolf and the shock of the pain, the slickness of the blood all work against her. She is trying to calm herself enough that her heart doesn't burst out of her chest. She's got to calm down enough that her sobs and her screams don't take her over as they're threatening to do. She only has to be able to reach her hands. For the first time since she was sixteen, she's cursing the fact that she's got on gloves. She knows her time is limited. She can feel herself weakening already. The wolf's claws rip and his teeth tear. It seems like there's blood everywhere and it's taking forever (not to mention an incredible amount of control) to stop fighting and just work on getting her glove off.

She only knows her hand is bare by the feeling of all that blood--slick and warm and hers--covering her skin. She reaches up and grabs the wolf's ear, hanging on as tightly as possible. She can feel her power taking over. She feels warmer, stronger and more alive than she had a second ago, which means the wolf is probably starting to feel the affects as well through his bloodlust.

With that contact at his ear, the wolf feels the drain. Normally, this might be enough to tame the wolf or even to make the beast revert back into human form, releasing Oz from his cage inside. But today isn't a normal day. Something in the dome is affecting both Oz and the wolf in ways that are not at all normal.

So even while the wolf can feel that drain, his claws lash out and get her across her stomach again, and once against her arm. His teeth snap at her until finally the animal realizes that something is wrong. As agitated as the wolf is, this meat sack is doing something to him, something that's making him lose his natural aggression.

The wolf whimpers and bounces back, easily pulling away and landing low on his haunches. For a moment, it shakes its mane and tries to decide whether or not to continue his assault. Then he's off, running for sector six where the prey might be easier to catch and snack on.

For her part, Rogue uses the benefit of the extra strength and rush of adrenaline and life she drained from the wolf to push herself to her feet. She keeps one arm across her stomach in an attempt (useless) to staunch the blood. She's in rough shape and she knows it. Her first priority is getting to the hospital.
