day 210 | video
[ the art of disguise is not merely physical. it runs on many layers, and the ability to replicate and manipulate emotions is just as important as the way one looks. it all comes in handy, though, especially when you're a world-renowned criminal mastermind in a new place with new people and you need to get your bearings.

this is why the residents of marina will be finding themselves in the company of richard brook, the fretful out-of-work actor, rather than the criminal mastermind that is james moriarty. it's only practical, after all; it would be absolutely ridiculous for everyone to be aware of his capabilities right off the bat.

the rumpled-looking man showing on the video feed is rather obviously distressed. he seems more fearful than angry, however -- his voice wavers as he mutters to himself, very quietly.
]

...torture? Murder? Really, I can't --

[ he pauses, and takes a deep breath. ]

I thought we'd been through all this once already. I'm innocent. I didn't do any of those horrible things, not a single one -- all I did was look the part. I swear, I'm being honest, I'll tell you everything all over again if I need to.

[ that tremor isn't just in his voice, now. he's shaking. ]

You've got the wrong man. This is a mistake. Please, just let me go home.

Not that much, if we're being honest.

[ an awkward laugh. that's not a lie for richard, but it certainly is one for jim. ]

[ He gives a nod. Not particularly surprised — how many times has he explained this by now? ]

I think that we're experiencing a real life application to what is most commonly referred to as the many worlds theory. Now, I don't have any definitive evidence that this is actually what's going on but to date it's the most plausible scenario... as you might know by now, we're brought here and replaced by a "clone" back home. I don't think that's what's actually going on, but rather that we're dealing with diverted timelines. Realities that have been redirected to this one point.

It's not uncommon for an individual to have been here in the past without remembering that experience when they return at a later date. There's also been several instances of multiple versions of a person co-existing within the facility... of course, we still don't know enough about the mechanics to have more than a basic idea of what we might be dealing with.

[ well then. rich plays his part, all furrowed brows, while jim processes. he toys idly with the thought of meeting another version of himself and what that would entail.

then rich just gives an awkward laugh.
]

This is all really messed up, to the point where it's kind of funny.

Yeah? What, uhm... what makes you say that? [ Ever the profiler. ]

Haha, uhm, a lot? The fact that so many people have been wrongly imprisoned underwater and replaced with copies of themselves sums it up pretty well.

[ the thought does freak richard out a little bit. jim's still pretty amused by it all, though, and definitely intrigued. ]

I guess there could be worse ways to look at the situation. Like I said, it gets easier.
