day 210 | video
[ the art of disguise is not merely physical. it runs on many layers, and the ability to replicate and manipulate emotions is just as important as the way one looks. it all comes in handy, though, especially when you're a world-renowned criminal mastermind in a new place with new people and you need to get your bearings.

this is why the residents of marina will be finding themselves in the company of richard brook, the fretful out-of-work actor, rather than the criminal mastermind that is james moriarty. it's only practical, after all; it would be absolutely ridiculous for everyone to be aware of his capabilities right off the bat.

the rumpled-looking man showing on the video feed is rather obviously distressed. he seems more fearful than angry, however -- his voice wavers as he mutters to himself, very quietly.
]

...torture? Murder? Really, I can't --

[ he pauses, and takes a deep breath. ]

I thought we'd been through all this once already. I'm innocent. I didn't do any of those horrible things, not a single one -- all I did was look the part. I swear, I'm being honest, I'll tell you everything all over again if I need to.

[ that tremor isn't just in his voice, now. he's shaking. ]

You've got the wrong man. This is a mistake. Please, just let me go home.

Good to know there's sensible people around here.

I'm Richard. It's nice to meet you, Roxy, despite, uh, circumstances.

Could always be worse-- cause yeah, a lot of sensible people around. And for me, my friends. I never met anyone in person really until way recently. What about you? You seen anyone you recognize?

You'd never met anyone in person? How does that work?

I haven't. Which is probably for the best, to be honest. I didn't know a lot of great people.

I grew up with and was raised by people who weren't humans. And I made friends online. So I never met much of anyone for realsies. Hella lonely, I don't rec that shit.

I guess you're better off not knowing anyone, in that case. Make some new pals, there's a good group here from what I can see.

Doesn't sound like it'd be all that pleasant of an experience.

Yeah, I think I'm getting off to somewhat of a good start on that front, at least.

[ jim? having friends? that's an absolutely hilarious concept. but good thing they're more rich's than anything. pleasant "connections" are necessary, and of course, he's good at faking. ]
